《Another World? Never Saw This Coming》Chapter 16 Forest Woe's

Later that night John was currently furiously manipulating the different materials he had in an attempt to make a decent weapon.
John: “Well, This could work…. .”
John was currently staring at a gigantic claymore sword with a grin on his face. The sword itself is composed of a handle wrapped in leather, with various gems placed along either side of the blade. The blade itself has quite a few special features that took John a long time to complete.
Those features were based on his experiments with the gems currently in the sword. The first feature is on both sides of the blade. That feature being; clear gem’s with a slight hole in their center. The reason for this hole is to release magic stored in the stone with immense force. As John had previously discovered raw magic is highly volatile so by injecting it into a crystal with a hole in it, all of the force should be pushed in the opposite direction of the hole basically creating a boosted sword.
As the crystals and their respective holes were pointed in different directions John could force the sword into and out of an object almost instantly which made up for its huge size. Now as to how his magic would go into the gems. That’s the second feature of this sword. The gems along the handle, act as batteries and conductors. Essentially; as he injects his magic into the handle of the sword, the gems can store the magic, like separate batteries, and unless John releases the magic into the top gems with holes, the magic will stay inside the battery gems.
John’s secondary weapon is a set of double bladed axe’s, with a slightly different concept than the claymore. That concept being pre-set manipulation, there are two separate gems on either side of the pommel of the axes. If magic is injected into the gem on the left; the axe will turn into a shield, and if magic is injected into the gem on the right; the shield will turn back into an axe. John achieved this by manipulating it manually, first the axe form had a gem placed on the right side of a pommel, and when it was manipulated into a shield the new gem was placed on the other side of the pommel, thus causing the magic in the gems to have the effect of transformation on the metal.
John: “Whew…. That was hard work, judging from that giant moon’s position in the sky I’d say it’s…..”
As John stared at the giant moon for a solid ten minutes he finally came to a conclusion.

John: “I have no clue what time it is.”
John climbed back into the cart, under the pile of furs while placing his new weapons on top of a pile of various trinkets. After injecting the rest of his magic into the claymore, he went to sleep.
The next morning, John awoke to the harmonious sound of trees collapsing followed by the refreshing soft sound of wood splinters and pebbles being blown into his face…. Yeah right.
John: “HOLY HELL WHAT WAS THAT!”
After being so rudely awakened John noticed the giant tree that had woken him up had a very suspicious hooded person in front of it with the sword he had crafted last night stuck deep into the earth.
Riley: “Oh John glad your awake… um I noticed this sword and wanted to give it a test run and as you can see it went great!”
While trying her best to pretend nothing was wrong Riley gave a thumbs up and was swiftly hit in the head by a piece of Jerky.
After John removed the sword from the ground Riley began to explain the circumstances behind the sword being stuck in the ground apparently she had noticed the weapons lying next to John and after her curiosity got the better of her, she decided to test them.
After giving the sword a couple test swings riley found out by accident that if she let her magic run into the gems in the sword, it could be swung with much greater force.
So for fun Riley decided to try it out on a tree and the results were shown by what was left of the tree.
John: “Well as glad as I am that the sword managed to survive that abuse it’s good to know that other people can use the magic features that I put on the sword.”
Riley: “Oh also Drven wanted to have a meeting as we’re about to move out in a few minutes.”
And with that Riley and John joined back up with the members of their group for Drven’s meeting.
Drven: “Ok so after hearing about the dangers of the next leg of the trip, and the fact that the TigerKin’s are being attacked kind of makes our current formation seem incredibly stupid.”
John: “Yeah I get what you’re saying having the strongest in the front is a decent strategy on an open field however we are in a forest any side is vulnerable at any point in time.”
Drven: “Exactly, and I’m sure Etten knows this as he’s a general so we need to devise a way to compensate for the lack of protection, any ideas?”

John: “I mean If we were getting attacked and had to stop I could make you a platform to give you a vantage point.”
Drven: “Alright that sounds like a plan now for the others I think John should stay at the front if we are attacked, I’ll keep the birds eye view while Elden you take the left side and Sven you take the right side, and as for you Riley I’m going to need you to be the rear guard.”
Elden: “Sounds like a plan also John I must compliment you on that sword it looks great.”
John: “Why thank you! it’s just something I made up on the spot, like those axes Riley has.”
Riley: “You know I’m keeping these, right?”
John: “Yeah I figured as much…”
10 minutes later the caravan was finally moving again, heading deeper into the massive forest.
The trees were quickly becoming thicker and thicker even getting to a point where light was becoming blocked out travel was slowing down a bit but nothing too severe was happening.
2 hours later and still nothing had happened the forest was dead silent not even the sounds of birds could be heard.
Drven: “I’ve got a bad feeling about this… hey Elden are your ears picking up anything?”
Elden: “No they aren’t and it’s really creeping me out, the entire forest is dead silent.”
4 more hours had passed in complete silence and the path was now beginning to widen again slowly becoming a clearing.
Elden: “Ok this is too weird that part we just passed was supposed to have been the most dangers par..”
Elden’s words were cut off at the sight before them.
Right before the forest entered a clearing blocking the path was a small army consisting of a multitude of monsters, the most striking of which was a skeletal dragon surrounded by Orcs.
The Dragon itself had 3 hooded figures standing on its head while the Orc’s around began to ready their weapons.
John surveyed the army with a shocked expression on his face.
The army itself consisted of 3 rows of goblins and rabbit like creatures followed by two rows of orcs with the dragon in the middle on either side of the dragon were deryun’s and in front of this entire army stood a two very familiar people.
Elden: “HOGEN YOU #^#%@$# WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS!”
It was Hogen and his body guard leading this army.
Hogen: “Well it’s quite simple actually. These fine fellows here not only offered me a chance to get back at you lot, they also offered me twice as much as those petty TigerKin.”
John: “Oi, Hogen you really don’t need to do this y’know plus, if you really think you’re all that useful once they figure out your tricks they won’t need you anymore.”
John judging by what he had seen of Hogen, assumed that his power was indeed those weird chemicals he was carrying with him.
Judging by the current scenario John could guess that Hogen had the ability to mind control monsters quite a troublesome ability if given enough time.
Hogen: “Hah, you fool they have no way to figure out my tricks!”
In the next instant the one armed “bodyguard” standing next to Hogen swiftly decapitated him which momentarily caused all of the monsters to start looking around in confusion, however once the “bodyguard” picked up the belt of potions they immediately calmed down.
Bear Mercenary 1: “N-no way they just killed off that guy like it was nothing.”
In the next instant the three hooded figures dropped down in front of the one armed man and began addressing the caravan.
Hooded figure 1: “Good evening lesser scum! We, the higher beings, are here to take that princess of yours captive!”
Hooded figure 2: “We were paid handsomely by the Demon’s so there really is nothing you could do about it feel free to die quietly!”
Hooded figure 3: “And for those who don’t wish to die if you each pay us 500 Pecunia you get to live!”
Riley: “OY you @$$$^%*#@ that’s the same price as a 10 acre plot of land no one here has that much!”
Hooded figure 1: “Gahaha, that’s truly too bad for you lot then isn’t it! Alright let’s reveal our identities to strike fear into their hearts!”
In the next instant the three swiftly removed their cloaks and revealed the fact that they were humans.
