《Ben the Dungeon》Write Your Own LitRPG: Rules And Philosophy
Advertisement
Our Philosophy:
Nobody makes money from improv, but a lot of great stories start there. And we fucking love the old Choose You Own Adventure Books.
Write Your Own LitRPG is meant as a space for experimentation of the LitRPG genre and strictly not for profit.
Read the story and if you enjoy please feel free to join us on Reddit and join in. The most recent post with appear at the top of Reddit Contents Page (https://old.reddit.com/r/litrpg/comments/90gn3a/write_your_own_adventure_table_of_contents/ )
Disclaimer:
- By writing in the thread you are giving your implicit permission in perpetuity for anything you add to the story to be kept together, and shown with, the rest of the story so that others can read it. This does not include Out of Character comments (defined below) and as stated we're not doing this for profit so you won't lose out. The intent of this rule is simply to keep any story created whole and together for the purpose of being read.
- Beyond that participation leaves you with your normal rights to your own work and you can use work and concepts generated in WYOL without any worry or issue, though you would need the permission of the writer if you want to use nonbasic work or concepts of other participants.
The Rules:
- Every post is continuing the story from the post it's responding to.
- There is a word limit of 500 max per post. You can respond to your own post if you wish you continue your own story, but be aware that others can also respond and try to take the story along different lines.
- Every Reddit upvote on a post brings it's content one step closer to being the One True Timeline and part of the story (though this doesn't mean that you shouldn't feel free to attempt to finish you own story with a hilariously, horrible death if your story isn't picked and comments downvoted into negative numbers will also be considered Dead Timelines so that there's an active way to deal with Spam).

- Every Monday the story shall pick up along the lines of the One True Timeline and all Game rules, Settings, Stats and Inventory shall carry on from there.
- If the MC dies in the One True Timeline, the game shall begin fresh in a new world, with a new character and new rules (as long as there is still demand to play)
- Any Out of Character comments should be in [squared brackets] otherwise it shall be considered part of the game. If there is a need for any other rules please make a OOC comments and we'll resolve it as best we can.

Long War [Oldest]
It was a war. It was silent, so silent that few people ever noticed that it was happening, and long. So long that those who knew forgot why it ever started. Humanity had fought against itself... and lost. Prosperity, democracy and human rights were a thing of the past now, as the world fell into Sovereigns's hands - a handful of transnational corporations (and their CEOs) that monopolized the world economy. The resistance had been long silenced with the policy of bread and games. Now, over a hundred years later, something happened. One of the Sovereigns created a VRMMORPG like none other. A science fiction game, where players could explore the Galaxy... full of advanced technologies, bloodthirsty aliens and even magic. Was it a simple computer game, or... something else?

Truck-kun Gets Sacrificed
Driscoll is my own version of a world with a game-like "system" of endless possibilities. MC has his own status, classes, skills, magic, and a living greatswordstaff in a world of monsters, demi-humans of all kinds, and even the supernatural. Sound good? Well, at first for Tru, it was a dream come true(I'm sorry). At least until reality hits him again and again. His quest from God is vague and must be discovered by him along the way. Hopefully, he can figure that out someday but for now, this new world's threats and his potential for power are motivation aplenty. With His new partner by his side, he's ready to embark on his mission of infinite sacrifice, however many lives it takes. The setting is pretty standard for fantasy, with my beginner attempts at writing. Litrpg elements are definitely involved here but It'll calm down as the story progresses and the world's foundation is laid. Judeo/Christian themes and principles take a major role and will be a backbone for much of the story. The fights will paint a picture in the mind rather than just be a bunch of number crunching. While he is meant to be a sacrifice to save all of Driscoll, he needs to gain enough power and influence to be a worthwhile sacrifice, or so he thinks. And so carnage will ensue as he avoids death as best he can while at the same time sacking himself for others. Truck Coon is your average determined, jiu-jitsu practitioner, tax associate that just started his new career. He dies to save kids from a semi-truck(Truck Coon got truck-kun'd, making him Truck-kun) and is transported to another world rather conventionally by God. Upon his arrival, he is quickly confronted with his first conflicts in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Chapters are currently between 2300 and 4000 words and I try to post weekly, but also deal with severe limitations that cause late posts often. I have zero actual experience with writing stories and only recently started reading web novels in 2020. If you end up hating it, let me know your thoughts in a detailed comment or review, especially if you love it though :D I want to get better and welcome the feedback, so expect changes to be made with any flaws that y'all point out which I don't already have plans to address in future chapters. That being said, keep it constructive in nature, please. I have no Idea how the formatting and such will go, so if you like or dislike some techniques I try, give me that well-appreciated feedback! Thank you for reading.

Shadow Falls
If you wanted to protect someone you loved, how far would you go, and what would you be willing to sacrifice? This question is at the core of this emotional rollercoaster of the book, Shadow Falls: the Rise and Fall of Erida VanIsle. This book emerged from four years of collaborative storytelling centering on the main character, Erida VanIsle, written by author Myra VanIsle. In this book, VanIsle goes beyond the events that led to Erida's sacrifice and explores forty-five years of the cost she paid to protect the sister she loved more than life itself. Shadow Falls explores the family tragedy which led to the separation of two sisters on completely different paths polar opposite of each other. While Erida set upon a path of darkness and power, Myra set out to be a beacon of light and hope bringing justice and peace to others. Be warned, the story VanIsle tells is dark and not easy, because you can't have the light without the dark.
