Altara and Hugo quickly stood away from the noises coming from the door, Altara drawing his sword and Hugo summoning his battleaxe once more. "Uh, Hugo?!"
Hugo frowned as a bald muscular man with cyborg legs stomped out the doorway, leaned on his shoulder was an oversized machete. He towered over the two, having a huge grin on his ugly wrinkly face. His right eye had a cut over it, the eye itself being blind.
"So you killed my men, HEH!" He coughed and pointed at the two. "Not really a huge feat, but winning a fight against a force that outnumbers you greatly is impressive..unless they are ants like these fools." He stomped on a dead bandits head, crushing it thanks to his legs being made out of complete metal. Altara saw this and gulped, Hugo simply frowned.
"You're going to pay for taking those teacher's lives, and attempting to take mine!" Hugo slammed his battleaxe into the floor in front of him, his face forming into one of menace. Altara quickly enchanted his sword with fire, extending it in front of his body.
The bald bandit grinned. "Oh don't worry, you coming here only guaranteed your deaths! Then we will invade your tower just as we wanted! I can only imagine the treasures you have in there!"
"We? There is no we...we killed all your men, Baldy." Hugo said with a slight growl.
The bald bandit laughed loudly, coughing at the end of the laugh before speaking. "IDIOT! THERE ARE ONLY MORE OF US! WE ARE ETERNAL CHROME! SCATTERED ALL AROUND...EYES AND EARS EVERYWHERE...."
He then lifted the oversized machete from his shoulder. "And my name is Kript, not baldy."
Hugo quickly ran at Kript as Altara ran around the side of him, both of them swinging their weapons at him. Kript simply grinned, slapping a small device on his waist and producing a bubble shield around his body. This caused Altara and Hugo's attacks to be parried, sending them flying back. Hugo rolling and stood whilst Altara simply slid until he hit a wall, slowly getting up whilst using the wall to support him. He looked up at Hugo who was staring at Kript, who was chuckling.

"YOU FUCKING IDIOTS ARE MEANT TO BE MAGES! SMART MY ASS!" He coughed and looked at Hugo, who looked at Altara.
Altara gave Hugo a simple nod, running at Kript. "All I can do is distract the guy, Hugo surely has something up his sleeve!" Altara thought to himself as he ran behind Kript, Kript glanced at Altara and spun, swiftly swinging his machete at him. Altara blocked the attack with his sword but this still knocked Altara over, he rolled and quickly stood back up, looking at Hugo coating his axe in blood behind Kript, who glared at Altara.
"OI! FATTY!" Hugo slammed his axe into the ground, spreading blood across the ground and onto Kript's feet, the blood went through the shield. Hugo grinned upon seeing this but got hit in the side by Kript's machete, he was sent flying, a chunk of flesh missing from his waist. He soon hit a white wall before hitting the floor, unconscious.
"HUGOOOO!!" Altara saw this and went pale. "...YOU...GH~" Altara looked up at Kript, who grinned whilst slowly looking at Altara. "Oh dear, it seems your daddy is dead now..HAHAH!"
"D..dad?" Altara muttered, looking at Hugo before quickly frowning, glaring at Kript and running to Hugo. Kript swung at Altara as he ran passed but Altara slid under the blade, tripping once he finished sliding and rolling, landing next to Hugo. He checked his pulse.
"Still breathing...thank the gods.." Altara mumbled, looking at the blood on Kript's boot. "What were you trying, Hugo?" Altara's eyes widened for a second after a small moment of thought, before forming into a frown. "I see..."
Altara pointed his blade at Kript, holding it with two hands. He ran to the bodies, blocking a weak attack from Kript before being hit in the shoulder by another, causing him to grunt. He dosed his blade in blood and ran away from Kript once more.

"DON'T EVEN THINK OF RUNNING AWAY KIDDO...I KNOW YOUR FACE!" Kript yelled from the other side of the room. Altara extended his blade in front of his body, a low hum emitting around the area as his blade charged with a huge mass of fire. It glowed as even the blood on the blade set on fire, the fire enchanted on the blade itself becoming blinding. Kript saw this and frowned, covering his eyes from the light.
Before Kript knew it Altara was running at him, Kript ran at him too and swung downwards at Altara. Altara dashed to the left and swung the fiery blood from his blade straight at the shield generator on Kript's waist, he kept running until he reached Hugo, standing in front of him and coughing blood due to the magik strain of the intense fire.
Kript saw the firey blood spread over the generator. "You idiot, the generator is made out of steel!"
HISSS...
The blood started to sink into the metal, Kript saw this and he started to sweat. "W-WHAT?? HOW!?"
"I enchanted my sword with fire hot enough to burn through steel. It's more like lava if it's applied to a liquid, I turned the blood into lava." Altara explained, blood leaking from the side of his mouth from the magik strain. He glared at Kript who started to panic.
"W..WH- GARGHH!" The generator on his waist exploded, causing Kript to flop onto the floor, half of his body remaining. His oversized machete flew through the air and landed next to Altara who looked at it, desummoning the enchantment around his blade. He then went on his hands and knees, vomiting on the floor. "Gh~" He coughed and took a few heavy breathes before looking at the unconscious Hugo. "H-Hugo.." He dropped his sword and crawled over to Hugo, looking at the chunk of flesh missing from his side.
Altara quickly looked in Hugo's pocket, eventually finding a small cloth, it wasn't much but he used it to slow down the bleeding. He then looked at the dead bandits, coughing as he stood up, running over to one and taking their shirt off, he ran back to Hugo, further improving the self-made bandage. Once he stopped the bleeding he looked at the door the men and Kript came through, slowly grabbing the oversized machete and weighing it in his hand, before leaning it over his shoulder. He leaned Hugo up against the wall and walked onwards, through the door.

No Easy Mode
Reincarnation isn't easy, Sure you might have a status menu but unlike a video game the training is real, the blood, sweat, and tears are real. Unfortunately for Samuel Erasi Fuller he found out that no amount of video game knowledge can prepare you for a world of skills, attributes and magic and even his top notch survival skills only go so far when there are beasts that shoot fireballs or move like a bolt of lighting. Worse yet there are no levels of skills just a name and description and a percentage display! Edit: Yes the poorly done cover is my personal work. Drawing anything using your finger and an app on your phone was not as easy as the tutorial made it look!

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
