《ADEPTAVERSE》47 - The New Genesis Arc: A Machine For The Devil

It was 2 in the morning the day after the 33rd Eradication Tournament concluded.
Inside of a 24/7 fast food restaurant inside of Sapianus City sat a scowling Grimjak. In front of him was a chocolate milkshake, the tip of the straw that was poked out the top was gently flicked by Grimjak over and over, making a quiet tapping sound. He had bags under his eyes.
"Sir, would you be ordering food?" A waitress came up to his table with a notepad in hand alongside a pen. Grimjak looked up at her with a slightly open mouth and lazy eyes.
"Get me some fries" he looked back down at the straw "and a triple cheeseburger~"
The waitress wrote down his request, briefly glancing at his red eyes and teeth. "Right away." She walked off.
Grimjak sighed, thinking of his defeat in the finals. "Hugo Blackblood..." The hand that was flicking the straw slowly formed into a fist on the table. The entrance behind him then opened, and he calmed himself down. The fist forming into a palm on the table. He picked up his milkshake with his other hand, sucking the straw.
"I'll take it for him."
"Oh, thank you. How kind."
Grimjak heard voices from behind him but he thought nothing of it, until..
His food was served, but not by the waitress, but by a man with a black headband over both of his eyes who was wearing a long, black trenchcoat. He sat opposite him. His hair was white and brushed to the side leaving a fringe that went down to his nose.
"Grimjak Zizah was it?" He asked the other. Grimjak frowned and took a fry from his meal and ate it, swallowing then responding.
"Who is it that is asking?~" He asked, frowning as his crimson teeth chewed on more fries.
"My name isn't important at the moment. What matters is my offer."
"Offer?" Grimjak asked after swallowing. "Listen, I'm not a merc. Go to the Depths for that." He kept eating, staring down at his food.
The blind man chuckled. "They pay in something more than kredits. But if your mind is set in stone then.."
He stood up, walking to the side of Grimjak who remained sitting. He had finished his fries.

"That man you fought in the arena was extremely powerful. You went toe to toe with him for a while. You lost, yes, but you did put up a fight and you even had him on his defensive for a bit. We were very impressed with you which is why I came here to find you." He patted Grimjak's shoulder, before heading to the exit.
Grimjak then grabbed the man's forearm, who then looked at him, grinning slightly.
"Then why did you come for me and not the Oligarchist? Surely he would be of more value to you." Grimjak asked, looking up at the man.
"Because you have hatred in your heart. You are one who has a lot of things on his mind, yes?
..that, and you have a revenge to commit to him. He almost killed you. He eradicated your chance at victory and embarrassed you." The man said calmly, his arm still being grabbed by the confused yet curious Grimjak.
"Just who are you? And what the hell do you want from me??"
"Grimjak. You aren't from Adepta are you?"
Grimjak froze, his hold on the man's arm tightening as he closed his mouth to hide his crimson teeth.
"Even if I'm not, what is it to you?" He mumbled.
"The cause I am apart of does not apply to just this planet that isn't your home. It applies to everything."
Grimjak's eyes furrowed.
"Everything?"
"All that exists...I am simply a cog in the machine that is the New Genesis of the universe."
Grimjak felt a sensation as the man looked down at him. Although his eyes were covered Grimjak felt like the man was looking right into his eyes with dedication.
"Is it a curiosity you feel? confusion? Or are you one who must see what we see first hand? The pig that is the universe."
Grimjak grimaced, he felt nervous. The reason wasn't clear. This man gave an aura like no other. Something that applied to everything? A cause that large. Just what is it? His mind buzzed. Was this a joke? A plot to lure him and kill him? Whatever it was he knew he had to find out..or he would simply lose sleep.
"Show me, then. Even if it is just to cure my curiosity about your cause..show me."

Grimjak let go of the man's arm, still looking up at him.
"My name is Axel Lucius. I will lead you for the next few days, Grimjak Zizah."
...
Meanwhile, at the Tower of Magik.
PAF PAF! PAF PAF!
A topless Hugo was striking a punching bag, his sweaty body not slowing down after each blow. The punching bag seemed to have taken many strikes.
Hugo's body was very muscular, toting a six-pack. He had scratches here and there from many wounds he had taken from each battle. He soon stopped punching the bag, panting.
On his back was a huge tattoo of a wolf's head facing forward. It was detailed, black and with red eyes. The wolf's jaw hung upon allowing flesh to hang from its maw.
He soon stopped panting, walking over to a bench to the side and grabbing a white top he had put there. He put it on and left the dark training room.
Hugo walked down the corridor inside the Tower of Magik. The black bricks that were lined with gold being the same as usual; pristine.
He went inside the elevator at the end of the corridor, pressing the button for the top floor.
...
The doors soon opened, and he was met with the office of his defeated friend Kry Kenlok. He slowly walked in and looked up at the large skylight that covered the room. It was night time still, and the stars were out. He slowly walked to Kry's desk, trailing his index finger on it before sitting down. He then looked at his finger. Clean.
"Bless the cleaner for keeping your place clean, eh? Starguy?"
The doors to the elevator then opened, and the white-eyed saint Jolene walked in.
"Yo."
"Hey."
She slowly walked into the light of the skylight.
"The stars look good tonight, hm?"
"Mhm. If only he was here to see it." Hugo mumbled out, leaning forward in the chair behind Kry's desk.
"I watched your fight on the TV. That is the first time I've seen you fight for a while...
...you can be so scary."
"Heh. Why would I be all soft in a fight? I mean..I'm not surprised that you're saying that."
"Oh?" Jolene frowned and folded her arms.
"You saints are healers. You barely have any offensive magik," Hugo grinned. "heheh."
"Any offensive magik that is categorized under the school of saint, yes." Jolene walked over to Hugo, looking up at the stars. He did the same.
"Did you kill that kid?"
"Huh?" Hugo looked at her with a furrowed brow, his hands in his pockets as he leaned back in the chair.
"The one from the Tournament. Grimjoe was it?"
"Grimjak. And no, he is still alive. I left him seriously injured. If he died post-fight from the bleeding it is completely the medical team on site's fault. Also..he isn't a kid. He's 21." Hugo itched his cheek and sat up.
"So what did you get from the founder, hmmmmmm?~" Jolene grinned and walked up to him.
"Apart from the money I got a ship." Hugo looked down, smiling to himself. "I wouldn't have asked for anything else."
"Why is that? You aren't an astrologist." Jolene asked, sitting on the desk in front of him.
"No..
..but I know one...
..and he is out there, somewhere, still shining."
Hugo smiled to himself.

He created what he called the Constructed Reality MMORPG, Primacy Online, a world so real that the players could not distinguish it from reality. After outlawing wars between the city-states on Earth, he declared that all wars would be fought inside the world of Primacy Online. Thirteen hundred years later, the release of Primacy Online VI: Legacy of Balor signals the beginning of World War IX. Their achievements in the game will determine the victory rankings of their city-states, but if they die in the game, they will die for real. Patrick Armagh found flaws in the game mechanics of Primacy Online and exploited them to rise to the peak of the game. But when the Church declared he was cheating, he was perma-banned from the game. Now, the Church has declared that Patrick and all the other perma-banned cheaters will be included in a special Church group for World War IX, where they can earn redemption for their sin of cheating. Like a significant percentage of Primacy Online players, Patrick suffers from an ultimately fatal, degenerative nervous system disorder. He has less than five years to live. With death staring him in the face and nothing to live for, he accepts Morgan Danan's offer, and once again, enters Primacy Online as Crom Cruach, a disgraced legend.
