《ADEPTAVERSE》55 - Horned Man's Halo Arc: Battle of the Oligarchy Part 2, Shatter

As Jolene walked towards Kruger her hands continued to glow a blazing white. When she got close enough she raised both hands and faced her palms towards Kruger, who stood back and took on a defensive stance.
"Lethal Magik - Holy Beam." Jolene mumbled. The injured Hugo's eyes widened as white beams shot out of Jolene's hands rapidly like a gatling gun towards Kruger.
Kruger attempted to dodge the beams but they were too fast, piercing his body in multiple places. His eyes sparked orange as he summoned one of his knights to use as a human shield. "GH!" The knight's armor was instantly pierced by Jolene's beams and he had no choice but to flee. He ran towards the nearest stained glass window to the right of the room and used his knight to shatter it, jumping out of the window and summoning two knights which hugged him to absorb the fall. Jolene ran to the shattered window and looked down, seeing him land in a bunch of trees out of sight.
"Little shit.." She grimaced and looked at Hugo, quickly walking to him as her palm continued to glow white. She pressed her palm against his neck as his skin swiftly twisted back to its normal unwounded state. Hugo coughed blood and cleared his throat, looking over at the shattered window. "He...He's gone?"
"Yeah, I don't know if he's dead or not though." Jolene said as she pulled Hugo up. "Come on big guy, we gotta make sure everyone else is alright."
Hugo stood straight and brushed himself off, straightening his parka before following Jolene out through the door she came through. "You entered through the other elevator on this floor I presume."
"Yeah. I was going to use it to get to the reception to find someone to help me but now I have you so there is no need for that." Jolene looked at Hugo. "Where are Altara and Konstantine? Weren't they with you?" She asked as the two walked into the elevator. "They went their separate way to look for survivors. I found the receptionist..she didn't make it..but she told me to go to the top floor in her dying breath. Who knows why but I think we should take her word on it."

"Top floor, huh? Kry's former office. Right, let's go then." Jolene pressed the button to the top floor, the elevator closing.
Meanwhile, inside Kry's former office.
The blindfolded man, Axel, was searching through Kry's former office, specifically through the books on the shelves which lined the outside of the circular room. "Tsk, no diary or anything. Is Zedarka sure that the host is here?! Bastard must have taken a vacation and his scent is still attached to this place."
Searching through the other side of the office was a woman in a leather black trenchcoat, wearing a black visor cap. Her bright green eyes shot across the room at Axel, book in hand. "No idea." She bluntly mumbled as she closed the book, placing it back on the shelf.
The elevator then pinged, both figures quickly turning their head towards it as they spotted Hugo and Jolene walking out. Hugo saw that the office was in a mess, books and notes everywhere. He looked at Axel and the woman wearing the visor cap, his eyes instantly turning cold. Jolene glanced around as Hugo locked onto Axel.
"So it was you bastards..you're the ones who led the charge.." Hugo started to walk towards the two, Jolene placing a hand on his shoulder. "Hugo..you'll get yourself killed!" She whispered. Hugo shrugged Jolene off and kept walking towards the two.
"WHOEVER YOU GUYS ARE..I'M GONNA MAKE SURE THAT YOUR DEATHS ARE AS PAINFUL AS POSSIBLE."
Hugo growled out, his body aggressively steaming blue.
"Hold on now!" Axel raised both hands slightly. "We mean no harm to you..we simply want to know where the owner of this office is!"
"No harm huh? Bullshit! You killed many to get here!" Hugo continued walking.
"The majority of the books in this office belong to him! We simply want to know where Kry Kenlok is!" Axel stood back, hoping the name would awaken Hugo from his rage, which it did. Hugo stopped walking and stared at Axel before standing straight. "Kry.." Hugo's posture relaxed, and his body stopped steaming blue magik. "Why Kry..what for?!"
"He is....a great friend of ours..we simply want to know where he is. That is all." Axel kept calm, the blind man nodding to reassure Hugo.

"He's..dead. He has been for half a year now. Buried in the graveyard near here." Hugo looked up at Axel, frowning. "Now tell me why!"
Axel kept quiet, before looking at the woman on the other side of the office, nodding to her.
...
"Thank you for your cooperation."
The elevator then opened, Konstantine and Altara running out of it. Axel saw them and frowned, swiftly taking out a grappling hook and shooting it at the skylight on the roof of the office. The woman did the same, both of them quickly flying up and out of the skylight by smashing it open.
"DAMN!" Hugo summoned a crystalized crossbow and fired it at the two figures, but it was too late. Hugo quickly ran to the elevator. "We need to get to Kry's grave NOW!"
Jolene quickly followed suit, but Altara and Konstantine stood still, confused. "Kry's grave? Why there?!" Altara looked over his shoulder at the mess inside of the office, but his trance was broken by a yelling Hugo.
"THESE BASTARDS ARE GOING RIGHT FOR HIM! AND IF WE DON'T STOP THEM WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE GONNA DO! NOW GET YOUR ASSES IN THE ELEVATOR!"
Altara looked at Hugo, swallowing slightly before nodding and entering the elevator. Konstantine did the same with a look of worry across her face.
"Grave defilers...terrorists!" Hugo pressed the button to the bottom floor.
Meanwhile, at the entrance of the tower, Grimjak was still lying on the floor unconscious. The sun shined on his bloody face as a figure walked over to him, it was an injured Kruger who walked with a limp.
"It seems you too have been defeated, Grimjak..and by the same Spellsword who defeated you in the Eradication Tournament no less. How embarrassing."
Kruger walked close to Grimjak, summoning a single knight that held a spear in its hand, his eyes beaming orange as he activated his Braveye. "Hmm. Best to get rid of you now. I'll be happy to report your tragic death at the hands of the Oligarchy of Magik's Magikans."
The knight aimed its spear at Grimjak's neck, but before it could thrust the weapon into him Kruger looked up to the top of the tower, hearing glass shatter and seeing Axel and the woman wearing the visor cap leap from the top of the tower.
"Tch!..Grimjak you lucky son of a bitch!"
"KRUGER! CATCH US WITH YOUR MAGIK!" Axel yelled as he was falling from the top of the tower.
"Can't really kill them by not catching them..too obvious."
"Right!" Kruger shouted out as he summoned two knights which eventually caught Axel and the woman before gently placing them down.
"We've gotta go to that graveyard we saw on our way here. Our target is there." Axel explained to Kruger as he looked down at the heavily injured Grimjak. "Hmm..seems the newbie still needs training."
"Trinita. Carry him back to the shuttle, tell Tommy to wait for us though." Axel ordered the woman, who nodded. She walked over to Grimjak and picked him up, walking off with him in hand.
"Now then..Kruger. Let's get to the graveyard and quick! There are people following us!" The blind man, Axel, started to run off, Kruger following shortly after.
Hugo, Altara, Konstantine, and Jolene ran out of the tower shortly after, spotting the two figures running into the nearby forest Hugo pointed and shouted out. "THERE! WE NEED TO STOP THEM BEFORE THEY GET TO KRY!" Hugo started sprinting, Jolene shouting out. "The graveyard is close by in an open plain in the forest. They'll get there before us...but I can help us to get there faster!"
Jolene's body steamed a bright white. Hugo, Konstantine, and Altara's body also started to steam white as their bodies became weightless and ignored the very concept of stamina thanks to Jolene's magik. They gained speed rapidly, the four sprinting through the forest and eventually catching up to Axel and Kruger who were still on the path to the graveyard. Hugo leaped down from the trees summoning his battleaxe, Konstantine's shotgun crackled with lightning as she pulled it out from her back and aimed it at the two terrorists, Jolene's hands shined a blinding light and Altara grimaced menacingly as he summoned his red crystal greatsword.
Kruger turned around and saw Altara whose eyes widened as he noticed who it was. Kruger then shouted out in adrenaline as he used his Braveye to summon a single knight to defend against Altara's deadly blade.

Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them. If you read this story then you won't lack for content. -- The Topps Company, Inc. has sole ownership of the names, logo, artwork, marks, photographs, sounds, audio, video and/or any proprietary material used in connection with the game Shadowrun.
