Chapter 17: Big Thief and Little Thief
“We’re nearly at Tifili Village.” Raven said.
Blacky and Raven have been traveling for over five days.
Raven seemed to never get exhausted. Blacky on the other hand, would beg for food every few hours.
Raven would occasionally summon crows. They flew out with little notes attached to their feet.
Black Bird flew above the duo. It would occasionally go away to hunt for food.
“Uhmm, Sir Raven, before I left Tifili Village I accidently killed two guards.” Blacky spoke with a slight smile.
Accidently?
Raven took a side glance at Blacky. “I’ve heard word of that matter. The young thief from the slums actually killed two guards. You’re slightly famous within Tifili Village now.. Anyhow, we’ll first go visit Old Man Black.”
Blacky nodded with a smile. He was excited to show off his strength to Old Man Black. He was almost a middle stage spiritual warrior!
Raven led Blacky to a mountain he was familiar with. Blacky easily climbed a tree and landed on a cliff. His eyes turned to look at a dark cave.
Footsteps could be heard as an elderly man laughed eerily.“Hohoho.. Look who it is!”
Old Man Black walked out of the cave, smiling strangely, similar to a perv. He walked up to Blacky and slapped his shoulder.
“You’ve become stronger.. Third level spiritual warrior, right?” Old Man Black used quite a bit of strength with his slap, yet Blacky didn’t take a single step back.
Blacky smiled happily and quickly began to brag. “Yes teacher. I’m only a little bit away from the fourth level! If I wasn’t traveling I would’ve broken through already!”
Old Man Black’s eyes lit up with surprise. “Really?”
“Hmph!”
Raven appeared on the cliff, seemingly out of nowhere.
“You useless old scum, just what have you been teaching this brat?” Raven glared at Old Man Black.
Old Man Black didn’t seem surprised with Raven’s appearance. He smiled showing off his decayed teeth. “Hohoho, I’ve thought him well right? Say.. Did you see the ‘divine dragon descends from heaven to crush an egg’ technique?”
Raven erupted in anger. “Screw your stupid technique! This brat is absolutely shameless. He began to roll away in freight, in front of Dark Eyes. Do you know how embarrassing that was for me?”
Blacky spoke innocently by the side. “Sir Raven, don’t be like that. I thought he was a demon. Naturally I had to escape.”
Old Man Black nodded his head furiously. “Blacky you did well. Always run when you’re scared.”

Old Man Black angrily turned to look at Raven. “Hmph, hmph. Raven you’re too naïve. I once entered a forest filled with demonic energy.” Old Man Black began to tremble in fear as he continued. “There was a Jinn there which called out to me.”
Blacky on the side appeared just as scared.
“You two are hopeless!” Raven by the side face palmed. “Forget it.. How did your contract go?”
Old Man Black began to chuckle darkly. “Hehe.. Surprisingly easy. That brat from the Grand Tree Sect was too stupid. I didn’t even need the crew.. Hmph.”
Blacky clearly remembered Old Man Black’s contract. It involved assassinating an elemental warrior, of the younger generation.
Old Man Black smiled as he looked at Raven and Blacky. “Me and the boys had a little bet. If any of us could kill her on our own.. All the loot would belong to that person.. Hehe, guess what I did?”
Raven rolled his eyes. “Just say it you fool.”
“Hehehe. I laid down on the side of the road.. In fake blood, I pretended as if I got attacked by a demonic beast.” Old Man Black continued to chuckle as his eyes darted between Blacky and Raven. “That girl was so nice she came right to me.. Then I gifted her with dagger straight in her throat.. Bahahahaha!”
“Hahaha!” Blacky by the side began to laugh with Old Man Black.
Raven looked at Old Man Black and Blacky like they were two retards.
Blacky simply laughed because he found Old Man Black’s laugh funny. “Teacher what loot did you get?”
Old Man Black put his hand out showing off a ring. Afterwards he opened his palm. Within his palm there were five small grey stones.
Blacky looked at the ring, then the stones. “A spatial ring.. and rocks?”
“Those aren’t rocks. They are low grade elemental stones. They can be considered a form of currency for elemental warriors.” Raven by the side answered Blacky’s question. “It seems your harvests aren’t bad.”
Old Man Black smiled proudly. “Of course not. Originally I was planning on going to Vemos City to get some pills. Why did you stop me?”
Raven replied casually. “I presume you want to buy a pill for Blacky right? With those five stones you’ll only be able to get pill for middle stage spiritual warriors. On top of that they will be filled with impurities. If he consumes them it will be hard for him to advance in the future.”
Old Man Black replied with a frown. “There is no pill with no impurities. What’s important is for Blacky to increase his strength. You know .. White Devil will be at the tournament right?”

White Devil was the master of the bounty hunters association. Not many people knew of this matter.
Raven didn’t ask how Old Man Black knew this. “I do know it. However.. Our gains in this trip surpass yours, by far.”
Old Man Black looked at Blacky and Raven. “What do you mean.. Our?”
Raven showed Old Man Black three pills.
Old Man Black’s jaws dropped when he saw the pills. “Impossible! These are perfect spiritual pills! How did you get on your hands on this?? Even in the Grand Tree Sect, they could on get their hands on one or two a year. Yet you have three? How the hell is this possible? Did you kill a top sect disciple or something?”
Raven shook his head. “Actually there was four.. And it was given to Blacky..”
Old Man Black turned to look at Blacky waiting for an explanation.
“Uhmm.. My good friend Cool Breeze gave them to me..” Blacky coughed. “He’s apparently the Third Prince of the demonic cult crew..”
Old Man Black had shock written over his face, he began to murmur. “Third Prince.. He was chased away from the sect by the First Prince. His talent is so great that he will surely become a Celestial.”
Raven nodded. “That’s right. He came to Tifili Village to check out the ancient ruins. He got Dark Eyes to check out Stone Village too.. I’m not exactly sure how he became friends with Blacky..”
Blacky put on a fake smile. “Haha, he said that I’m cool.” In reality Cool Breeze probably hated him.
Old Man Black chuckled by the side. “See that? I raised him so well, that even the third prince wants to be friends with him!”
Raven couldn’t deny it.
“That also explains why you haven’t taken it for yourself!” Old Man Black smiled as he looked at Raven. The value of these pills were simply too high. They were surely worth a few hundred high grade elemental stones.
That was a type of wealth which mortal kings would kill for. Let alone an elemental warrior.
Raven snorted. “What nonsense. I would’ve let him have it anyways. It’s not like he’s a stranger, and I’m his teacher now. In the future he will have to take care of me.”
Blacky coughed by the side.
“Shut up!” Old Man Black and Raven turned to look at Blacky.
Blacky wisely remained quiet.
Raven turned back to look at Old Man Black. “Old fool, what weapons can this kid use?”
“Everything.” Old Man Black replied.
Raven’s mouth twitched.
Old Man Black continued. “I’m not saying he’s a master at using all weapons. He can simply use all weapons at a pretty decent level. What’s interesting is his tactics.”
Blacky looked at Raven with a cocky smile on his face.
Old Man Black didn’t appear to notice as he continued. “Say.. What’s the best weapon you have?”
Raven was starring angrily at Blacky. “Hmph.. I have a weapon called Stone Elements Edge. It’s the weapon that old dog Shamix used. ”
Old Man Black turned to look at Blacky like a paedophile. “Hey Blacky, you like long sharp things right?”
Blacky nodded his head furiously. “Yes, long and sharp! That’s my favourite!”
Old Man Black turned to look at Raven with a strange smile. “Haha, looks like Blacky will need you to train him a spear technique. I also don’t have a spear for Blacky to use, soo..”
Raven clenched his hands. “Are you two retards are planning on scamming me? The spear is of elemental grade! It’s not so simple for Blacky to use.”
Old Man Black’s eyes flashed with greed. “Haha! No worries! Bring a different spear. Once he’s strong enough. He’ll use the Stone Elements Edge.”
Blacky by the side nodded his head. “Yes. I like spears. The stone is my favourite element as well. The spear must have affinity with me.”
Old Man Black looked at Raven as he spoke. “You don’t use spears, nor does the element align with yours. Let’s give it to me.. I mean Blacky.”
Raven snorted, ignoring Old Man Black. “Hmph. If you’re capable of using the spear before the tournament… Sure you can have it.”
Blacky and Old Man Black looked at each other and smiled slyly, as if they made a great scam.
Raven didn’t miss this. However he knew of their personalities well enough. They both had something wrong with their heads.
Raven turned to look at Old Man Black. “Other than a spear technique, what else should I get?”
Old Man Black’s tone turned serious. “A movement technique. The highest quality you can get your hands on. Those two will be enough.”
Raven didn’t argue. “Fine. Blacky is close to becoming a middle stage spiritual warrior. I’ll leave it to you.”
After saying that, Raven disappeared.

The Animo Saga
Before history was well-recorded in the world of Ulakam, primordial animal spirits adopted humans, provided protection and developed deep spiritual connections with them. Millennia later, humans now host animal spirits and are split into tribes named for the species they host. Ulakam is slowly being consumed by a decades-long war pitting the main tribes against the smaller tribes and a group of bandits calling themselves "the resistance". Callida Animo was born into this world. Coming from a mixed family of generational soldiers, Callida joined the family business at a young age. In her words, she was practically bred, born, and raised to be a soldier. And she's good at what she does... which inevitably attracts attention that makes her unambitious self extremely uncomfortable. Love, loss, influence and growth. This is her story. Written episodically, this story focuses on relationships and character growth through a series of mini-arcs that connect to make a greater whole. (Honestly, the story would lend itself well to a TV series.) "Episodes" range from 3-7 chapters (at least so far), and average about 4 or 5 chapters. Author's note: I'm always thrilled to receive comments, follows, ratings/reviews, messages.... All forms of feedback are welcome and encouraged. However, I have no interest in begging readers for more engagement to get better visibility. I tried that with my last story and found the game soul-sucking. So! This constitutes my only self-promotion request. If you are reading this story, let me know what you think! I love engaging with my readers. We'll see if growing the readership organically is even possible. Thank you! 😘 Release schedule: Weekly on Wednesday afternoons
