《The Crawford's Multiverse of Madness》Chapter 26 - Longing For A Family

The Umbrella Corporation thought they'd contained the infection. Well, they were wrong.
Raccoon City was just the beginning. Within weeks, the T-virus had consumed the United States. Within months, the world. The virus didn't just wipe out human life.
Lakes and rivers dried up, forests became deserts ... and whole continents were reduced to ... nothing more than barren wastelands.
Slowly but surely, the Earth began to wither and die. What few survivors there were learned to keep on the move.
We avoided major cities. If we stopped anyplace too long, they would be drawn to us.
Only a few at first, but then more and more. A never-ending army of undead.
For those left...
... staying on the road...
... seemed the only way to stay alive.
But Zeel and I were a different story entirely…
We never ran from the fight; we took it to them and that's what we are doing now, taking the fight directly to them –
The Umbrella Corporation.

Alice and Zeel temporarily separated about a week ago.
Zeel had to travel through a satellite zone and Alice could not pass until she was entirely free of Umbrella's control.
Alice thought back to the conversation between her and Zeel when they separated.
∞
"I'll travel a bit through this part and you'll head through the dead spots like usual. We'll meet up on the other side," Zeel said as he began setting timers on his scanner.
The Scanners were designed using his nanites and his Watch. Zeel also created one for Alice.
"Okay, just make sure you hurry back to me," Alice said kissing Zeel on his cheek and then spinning out of his arms as he attempted to hold her for a longer kiss.
"Come back and there'll be more," Alice said cheekily.
"Always," Zeel replied, quickly taking several steps forward and kissing Alice on the cheek.

As Alice was passing by a pub on her motorcycle, she heard pleads for help. Being the person she was, kind enough to almost anyone, she attempted to find out what was going on.
Truly, Alice would help anyone she could these days. She had begun to notice her apathetic behavior recently. She became deafer and deafer to the pleads of others.
Maybe it was a consequence of following the apathetic Zeel for too long. Maybe, she had just matured to the point that kindness was no longer conducive to her growth.
"Can anyone help us? Please?" A woman sat on a dirty, shitty smelling bed pleading with what seemed to be a child in her arms.
Alice was immediately cautious upon seeing the woman but opted to forego cautiousness as she laid eyes on the child in the woman's arms.
Over the last year, Alice had begun to long for a family of her own, but she was forced to give up. Zeel explained to her the impossibility of their physiologies being compatible.
'One in a million chance' was the phrase he used to describe their chances of having children.
"My baby. Please. Please help my baby," The woman pleaded desperately.
Alice was about to reach for the child, but she suddenly paused. Even if she did not receive Zeel's ability itself, she did have an improved intuition, not much weaker than Zeel's own.
"Okay come on out!" Alice yelled to nowhere in particular and leaned back awaiting the arrival of the people she sensed.
Now that she had a calm state of mind, she realized the awkwardness of the situation.
Three men exited a nearby wall.
"We're surrounded. We need help. Can anyone hear us?" The trio start to mimicking in a mocking tone as they signaled the woman on the disgusting bed to get up.

"Can anyone help us? Please. Works every time, Mama," Said one of the rougher looking guys to who seems to be his mother.
They had teeth filled with rotten meat, no doubt cannibals from the looks of it, this wasn't the first time Alice had come across these types of survivors.
Alice would normally kill any cannibals she came across based on principle alone. Zeel would leave them to their vices, saying it was only logical to find a stable source of food – human, when they had none.
Alice sighed as she thought 'I am still working on changing his way of thinking.'
"Let's see what else she's packing," Another guy said as he proceeded to check Alice out with lusting eyes.
Alice was confused if the guy was checking her out for her meat or body?
Would her attractiveness outweigh her nutritional value in their eyes?
The moment she found herself thinking like this, Alice smiled wryly as this was another one of Zeel's quirks she picked up.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. I have a jealous boyfriend you see," Alice said putting her hand behind her head as if she was stretching, but she was manipulating a couple of metal shards a few feet away.
"Shut your mouth!" The mother said hissing like a venomous snake ready to strike any moment.
*whoosh*
*whoosh*
Before any of the group knew what had occurred, they gripped their necks, not knowing when they found it difficult to continue breathing.
"Sorry, but my boyfriend said to kill using mainly my abilities. I am training or I would have killed all of you with my bare hands," Alice said keeping a stoic face the entire time.
She was truly disgusted at the smells in the room.
With her enhanced senses, she could easily determine that others had been ticked here before, they were defiled and eaten.
Alice could even smell some animal scents mixed in. She decided not to judge the fetishes of others.
Alice searched the entire residence for anything that could prove useful, Zeel taught her to take what is offered. Over the past years, Zeel had thought her many things he was trained to do.
By the end of the training, she could understand why he was so crazy and emotionally unavailable.
This incident only cemented the already strong relationship they shared. Alice marveled at the fact, she was his first love, and he was hers – at least from what she could see from his memories.

The sea of stars. The momentaneous lifeforms that flicker far away. Our futures — a sea brimming with light. Each and every shimmer in the starry canvas serves as one’s infinite opportunities in the vast sea of the future. The world, however, is far from the ideals of such a mantra. Complacency is the enemy of progress, yet to the four known nations, each one sees enemies around their borders. An example: A village isolated from the nation of Alkai prevents the lives of many from progressing. It’ll take a society, a group, even a whipped together rag-tag team to jump start the quest for progress.
