j0nn0! It’s time to D-D-D-D-D-D-DUEL!!!
“Blue-Eyes White Dragon, I summon thee!”
Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl! Defense Mode!
“ORA-ORA-ORA-ORA-ORA-ORA!”
ORA-ORA-ORA-ORA-ORA-ORA!
GO!
Umm, j0nn0? May I know what’s going on please?
“Sorry, I always wanted to do that at least once. Moving on, RRL has officially introduced the Duel System!”
Cool! How does it work?
“Well, why don’t we shove on over to the Duel Rules thread? First and foremost, anybody can challenge any other individual or group. Said individual or group may then accept or reject as they wish, then issue the duel conditions. It could be a simple game of rock-paper-scissors or as arduous as reaching the top monthly list.”
Sounds like fun. What do we get if we duel? Or is it just a site-wide game?
“In order for a duel to be recognized, it must be be given the official seal of approval in Wing’s thread! There’s even a ranking system in place! In the end, potential rewards include the respect and admiration of your fellow penguins… and…”
And what? Spit it out already!
“And a shiny achievement!”
*Gasp* MORE SHINIES!!!
“Yes, yes, now calm down a little, Narrator. In other news, duels have already started! Kinda-sorta started, anyways.”
What’s the issue?
“Well, seeing as how the infomercial duel among two WriTE members wasn’t officially recognized by Wing, but was officiated by the Super Mod, Vocaloid, the official status of the duel is in question.”
That sucks. I wonder if it’ll count.
“Oh, and before I forget to mention it again, Wing has challenged the members of WriTE to a Race to One Million! I might have mentioned it before, or not (might have been with other people), but this all started with a duel activity in the WriTE forums. The end goal is for either Wing or one of the WriTE’ers to accumulate a minimum of one million words in completed stories. One-shots and completed volumes count, but individual chapters do not until the story or arc or volume has been completed. The first to one million words wins all the cookies and possibly an exclusive, shiny achievement.”

So, tell me, j0nn0, will you be participating in this massive undertaking?
“You betcha. It’ll be more of a long term personal goal, but the added motivation will help spur me to finish my stories!”
You’d better. You have too many things just sitting around.
“Hehe… yeah. I have nothing else to leave you, our audience, with today so I’ll part with these words: See you next time and happy dueling!”
Throw a duel or two j0nn0’s way if you’re bored! His spring semester is ending soon so there’s going to be plenty of time to kill.
Spoiler: Extras
It’s the last stretch to finals j0nn0. Don’t mess up. Don’t mess up!
“… The pressure isn’t helping.”
Don’t mess up. Don’t mess up!
“...”
Voltaire is great.

Collective Thinking
Dyna Graves grew up thinking she was special. An exception to the average. Not necessarily above her peers, but simply outside their context. However, toward the end of her high school life, she started to realize that nobody was really special. At least not in any fantastical way. Just as she started trying to figure out what she wanted to do with the rest of her life, she got an invitation. A psychic institute scoped her out, realized her psychic potential, and asked if she would undergo psionic training at the Carroll Institute. Almost immediately, Dyna realized that she wasn’t quite up to the same level as many of her peers. Surrounded by clairvoyants and mind readers displaying obvious abilities made her own lack of ability all the more apparent. That was, up until the researchers and scientists of the facility realized that there was a bit more to Dyna Graves than met the eye. After an explosive incident during what should have been a routine experiment, Dyna quickly found herself wrapped up in a world of cutthroat espionage. The story can also be viewed on my website, https://www.towercurator.com/collective-thinking/. Cover art by Zoern.

Ricardo Black was one of them. But unlike his brethren, his talent was too average to attract those who could change his destiny. Surrounded by monsters, he has one year to prove his value before Earth is open to the alien races of the Omniverse and whatever they bring with them.
