To save because they need saving
(Third party POV)
“I’m going to die, he-lp me” (Cleric)
The other party members died before the cleric can even use her “Greater Heal” magical phenomena properly. The spell can greatly reinvigorate a target and speed up the healing process greatly. However, the party members are all dying as they aren’t able to reinvigorate as their organs themselves have sustain great damage and any superficial reinvigoration only prolonged their suffering as the body can’t replace or repair damaged organ fast enough before they die to blood loss.
The magician, after seeing the hero and his party begin to falter due to the hex, begin to activate a powerful spell he learned while in church. It was the forbidden spell, “Resurrection”. Although the magician can use simple healing spell, albeit quite potent, wasn’t enough to overcome the injuries and life drain suffered by the hero's party.
“Urgggh” (Magician)
While chantlessly activating multiple barrier spells to shield all 7 hero's party members to protect them for further physical injuries, the magician activates the forbidden spell of “Resurrection”. Just invoking 7 of the magical phenomena alone caused terrible magical backlash onto the magician body. In this world, magic is not so convenient like those fairytales or magical world. Each magic phenomena has its equivalent cost, as the theory of equivalent exchange is the rule here.
In using the forbidden magic “Resurrection”, the cost in exchange for the magical phenomena is one’s own soul. This means in exchange for one’s own life, one can resurrect another living being or several of them, depending on the size of the soul. This means the magician will lose his life in exchange of saving seven of his party members. Is it worth the sacrifice he pours in to save those people? One would never know, but the urgency of the matter forced him to act quickly. Adam (magician) knows full well by now that he is a reincarnated person. By using all his mana and his soul as sacrifice, he can bring back to life of his comrades that has just fallen.

“…..Resurrection” (Adam)
Clashing sounds can be heard from the Demon Lord Army hitting against the mana shield formed to protect each members of the hero party.
“Do not falter. The Hero needs us at these dark hours. We will avenge them by bringing down the Demon Lord Army that has been weakened.” (Forward army general)
“Hyahhh” (Army)
The human kingdoms also send their support army, as hero and his party are not omnipotent, and the kings of several kingdoms decide to pool their resource and army to help the hero repel the demon alongside them.
The army armed with long spears and small shields begin charging in with phalanx formation to repel the demons. Fast moving mounted cavalry got to the side of the demon army and begin a flanking formation against the incoming demon army. However, the tide turns the next moment. The phalanx formation break into disorder when a pit was dug below their feet and they fell into a ditch, leaving the front open to direct arrow and magical blast attack. The flanking mounted cavalry is dealt with by demon magic utilizing timed fuse explosion rather than the triggered explosion stone. The straggling cavalry is finished off by demon archers and demon mages. The human army is in a disarray and they are falling apart, about to get routed. Some of them have abandoned their post and run away from the battlefield, only to get impaled by the numerous demonic minions scattered across the battlefield.
(Magician POV)
Hey, those people didn’t even make a dent into any of the fighting potential of the Demon Lord Army. They just got taken out in a special move of the Demon General without even meeting the Demon Lord. Arghhh, the backlash of using multiple mana shields on the party members is really bad. Now, I’m about to use my life in exchange for my party who has fallen. I would get to save my party members in exchange for my miserable life; I think it is a worthy trade. Sorry Ester, I won’t be able to see you again after this. I can only hope you can find happiness while I watch you from afar. I wonder how afterlife is like.

(Magician flashback)
Back in the days in the orphanage, I used to play with the Sister and I like to watch her practice with the harpsichord. The harpsichord is located in the main hall. After her harpsichord practice, she would go to the large library to read books. I followed her to the library every time. On that fateful day, she met with Father in the library. He’s holding onto a large golden grimoire that is too heavy for him to hold for long, so he place it on the table. It seems to come with a magical lock and it was an item from the high-level security clearance section of the library. While Father is preoccupied chatting with the Sister, I took the key from his pocket secretly and open the grimoire. The book is extremely heavy, and with my current knowledge in magic phenomena as a small kid, I just glance through the book quickly. The book is somehow special, as it gives insight while reading the words of the book. You gain the technical know how when reading the text directly, and also you gain magical insight of the spell within, and I can see an elegant-looking goddess in my mind, holding out her hands to me, then crumbled into dust when I touched her hands. From then, I gain insight into the ability to cast the forbidden spell “Resurrection”. Fearing to attract any more attention as the book is glowing now, I shut the book and locked the book back, then place the key quietly into Father’s pocket. He’s still not noticing, probably he’s too engrossed with Sister. When I got to the side of Sister, she cut off the talk and we separate from Father. I keep this secret with me all the time, hoping that no other people know what has happened on that day.

Recruit - An Infinite Labyrinth prequel
A prequel to The Infinite Labyrinth. The year is 1816. The British Empire is in full swing, under the auspices of King George III. The Infinite Labyrinth has been pouring out its product from beyond our reality and fostered a new industrial revolution. Times are changing, and the people of London are feeling the winds of the revolution while British Professionals push into the Labyrinth. The newly formed Artefact Hunting Company is looking for recruits, and they have new technology to help them. From the slums of London, they aim to recruit a new wave of Professionals. And make Zacharias and the Earl of Carnavon lots of money. So, for Rowan Rivers and a handful of lucky ones, it's time to head into the Labyrinth, and discover what makes it different from England. And what makes THEM different? Recruit is a bunch of chapters I wrote to create to the setting, mood, and game systems of the Infinite Labyrinth. It is NOT a complete story in the classic sense. It's more of a slice of life view of early days of a normal Professional from the Infinite Labyrinth, and it's heavy on info-dump. It's 90% canon - there's probably a bit of a difference between how some characters and common behaviour are portrayed here and how they'll come out in the main story. Set two years before the events that kick-start the main series, it features some of the secondary/peripheral characters of the Infinite Labyrinth and will tell you all about the basic mechanics of the Labyrinth's RPG system. It can be considered a spoiler, as the characters in the Infinite Labyrinth are going to need to figure out all that, on their own. But if you like a much deeper exposition in the mechanics, here it is. The entire prequel is about 80 pages long.
