《The monsters came once upon a time.》Chapter 12

The creature stalked towards me, its impressive spear swinging in a rhythmic motion. Once the creature passed the entrance to the street, just a few metres from me, I quickly activated the Abyssal ring. The Abyssal clone emerged from the vortex of blacks, catching the creature off guard for a split second.
A second was all that was needed. Whyte thrust his spear through the half-opened window, the creature almost by instinct pried its eyes of my clone, instinctively leaning back. It's hand shooting to try and stop the threat. Thankfully, I ordered Whyte to aim for the body, the head or neck were portrayed as easy targets in movies, but in real life, targets move out of the way. As displayed before me.
The spear tore through the side of the creature, making short work of its ribs, plunging deeper and deeper as the creature struggled to finally stop its advance. During the sudden attack, Igris flung himself out of the open window a floor above, landing on the creatures back and lodging the metal bar in his hand firmly between the creatures' mouth. Due to the metal, only grunts of pain escaped its mouth.
Igris stuck close to the creature's body like glue, making the impressive spear obsolete. Only able to lash out wildly, its hand firmly clamped around the spear, it succeeded in delivering a glancing blow, but the close distance making it lack destructive power so it could only crack Igrisis bone. My clone bolted forward causing the creatures to refocus on the more prominent threat, one of its hands firmly holding Whyte's spear to stop it from penetrating deeper.
Using its freehand Its spear arced forward like lightning making my clone barrel to the side to avoid the fatal blow. As it reached behind the creature it forced it to turn, pain evident on its contorted face as it resummoned its dwindling power and swiped the spear 180 degrees in hopes of making contact. The clone successfully dodged and lunged forward slashing both of its Achilles tendons.

The once-imposing calves, starting with an audible pop shrivelled up its leg leaving a large ugly bulge under the knee. Its legs buckled as it landed with a rough thump on the concrete pathway. Its face lighted up with agony as it lashed its spear straight towards the clone. My clone staying in place due to my orders embraced the incoming spear, the destructive force passing through with no resistance and ricocheting of the concrete behind the clone. It watched as the clone dissolved into thin air with a sadistic smile plastered on its shadowy face. Then it felt the looming presence of death and once more through sheer instinct swivelled its eyes back in front, only to see the gleam of a short sword as it drew across its throat.
A waterfall of blood flowed out of the cut soaking its green skin and torn clothes with a dull blue. The creature's eyes locked on to mine as I smiled down at it. Confusion and pain evident as the final embers of life left its iris. It tumbled forward face planting the cold concrete. Probably shocked at the outcome.
It never thought it would die by the prey before it. The scars evident on its body from fighting far more threatening creatures than my species. But hey, who says a well-thought plan won't work. I wasn’t noble enough to fight the creature one on one. If you have numbers why not use the advantage. Pride would only lead to getting killed.
“Ah sucks for you buddy. Guess you never expected this, but my species are rather crafty. How do ya think we took over the planet?”
I stated bluntly whilst moving to check whether the earlier fun had attained unwanted attention. Seeing the other creatures as ignorant as ever, I walked back to the body, Rigour Mortis setting in as its limbs twitched now and then.

Leaning over the body I flatly stated.
“Guess what, I needed some help and since you're so kindly volunteering. What do you think about helping me wipe out the rest of your comrades?”
“But I guess where you're gone you won't do much thinking, not that you did anyway”
Calmly walking away from the body, moving towards the wide-open entrance to the house. I stopped briefly and said through a sadistic smile.
“Arise”

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
