《My Classmate is QiLin》Dianthe: Can't Be Relaxed to Be Ordinary
Advertisement
During the class, I was indifferent to what the teacher said on the lecturing platform. From time to time I leered at her, and she also noticed my eyes, but also apologetically smiled at me. At that time, it gave me the feeling that she did not seem to care about my feeling of embarrassment.
Although I do not hate this woman, her first meeting had an impact on me; but it more or less made me feel a little angry. Fortunately, I no longer looked at her, but picked up a pencil to draw a fighting match on paper, while waiting for the bell to ring so class would begin.
"Ring, ring... "
It took a long time for the bell to ring, a lot of people looked tied up; almost all of the class gazed at Dianthe. No one was very curious about her tail; because it would seem as if they were staring at her butt; like what happened to me. They’d just understand that she is from a different country with different biological characteristics of this self-proclaimed mythology.
Think about it, when a foreign exchange student comes to your class, aren't you curious about him or her?
"Christopher Burba, why are you staring at your new classmate's butt in class?"
After all, one of my classmates said something like this, which attracted some people's suspicions and they looked at me with disgusted eyes.
On one side, Dianthe raised her eyebrows after hearing it, because she knew it was caused by her tail, but she didn't know how to explain it better. She just lowered her head. The people next to me thought I was bullying Dianthe and advised Dianthe not to talk to me again, making me feel very embarrassed. I felt this more and I suffered and felt more embarrassed in my seat.
I knew this world would eventually find someone at fault, but for a time they also couldn’t find a reason, nor explain. And so I went directly into the boys’ toilet stall, until the bell rang and reminded me to go back to my seat.
After the past two classes, the heat that was on me for staring at Dianthe's butt gradually subsided, but I still dared not to talk with Dianthe. After all, doing so would only make it hard for me to explain and make more people think that I did not give up the sexual harassment on Dianthe.
It was going to be noon break soon. Strangely, we didn't see Dianthe at all, but we didn't think too much about it. Maybe she went to learn about the school's enrollment problems, but something happened this noon that I didn't know about, and I only knew about it after Dianthe told me.

[In The Principal's Office]
"Mrs. Tuck, it’s Dianthe, here I am!”
Dianthe went to the door of the headmaster's room, knocked politely on the door, after entering the headmaster's room, I saw Mrs. Tucker sitting on the chair and looking through some papers.
"Dianthe, come on in!”
“I, I have something to ask, Mrs. Tucker!”
Standing timidly in place, instead of sitting on the leather chair near the desk, Mrs. Tucker saw Dianthe come in and greeted her with a smile.
"Oh, boy, I was going to tell you! Your admission procedure was very smooth, and the US Foreign Affairs Department has agreed to your temporary residence. Are you satisfied with the new environment?”
"I have no objections, I feel very satisfied with the new environment, everyone is friendly, but... "
Before Dianthe could finish, Mrs. Tucker handed her a bunch of yellow keys with a smile and said, "Oh, right! I forgot to give you these. They’re the keys to your villa in the suburbs. Are you okay living alone?”
"No problem, I have been living alone in the Chinese city of Beijing for five years. I can survive in the wild, but I have more important things to ask than accommodation!"
"What is it?”
Mrs. Tucker hesitated on seeing Dianthe, her expression was also separated from her smile, and she frowned a little, and guessed the content of the question in her heart, and quickly wove the reasons in her heart.
"Well, having to go through social tests of self-power in the face of humanity! I just want to live like an ordinary American citizen.”
It was as if she had made up her mind, but Mrs. Tucker sighed in bewilderment. The air around her seemed to have changed its pressure, making it difficult for both of them to breathe.
"Dianthe, I very understand your idea, but you know that your identity is not generally the same as others. Both the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Education came to me in-person to discuss your work with me and I could not change their decisions. Just so you know, I'm just a lesser principal; also don't have the permission to do make changes to their plans, even if I send a report up, they are unlikely to approve your request."
"I can live with surveillance and a collar that inhibits mana, but it has flaws that prevent me from controlling my appearance, revealing features if I don't pay attention, and making it difficult to breathe when I sleep, with flashing red lights that make me wonder if there's a remote-controlled bomb inside! Please, I am really just an ordinary child.”

Dianthe said it indignantly, lifting her collar, showing something underneath that made Mrs. Tucker jump, but she soon recovered herself.
“What!?”
It turned out that Dianthe was wearing a three-centimeter-wide black metal collar around her neck, which looked like a special explosion-proof alloy with a faint red light flashing on it. If it was quiet, you could even hear the sound of the electric current inside.
Mrs. Tucker's eyes looked sad. She could’ve protested, but she could do nothing in the presence of authority.
"I sympathize with the way you are being treated, but rest assured there is no bomb in the collar, at least that's what Michael's men told me."
"Please, I am a child; can they not give me a more lenient treatment?”
"But I have never heard of a child who will live to be three hundred years old. You're five times older than me.
"Well, I hope I can have a good time in America.” said Dianthe.
Dianthe finally gave up, although she had expected this would happen, she was still a bit sad.
"Alas...... Dianthe, from my own emotional point of view, I'm sure you are a very kind person, but you must be aware that you are an Oriental mythical creature, err... Oriental mythical creature named unicorn, even as a child, you have the power to destroy a town. Do you think you are really ordinary?"
"That... At least as the principal, please do not test my abilities in front of the other students, or make me show my strength in front of so many people!"
Mrs. Tucker couldn't stand it anymore. "Dianthe," she said sternly, "you're too picky! In fact, you know very well that you did not come here especially for school. This is the American test program for the integration of mythical creatures into human society. Don't forget, this is the work assigned to you by your king! Michael's organization needs to know the exact Numbers, and I, as an ordinary principal, can't interfere with anything at all. Besides, the collars can limit your power and prevent you from hurting people; yet you want to see your classmates get hurt and fear you until you can no longer stay in the United States."
"I'm sorry Mrs. Tucker if I’ve wronged you, but I'm not content in this."
"You cannot be willing to be only ordinary; but it’s not your fault. It’s just a pity; but in any future test, you must try your best to display your own various abilities! What the project needs is accurate data”.
"So does the social test have to involve my classmates? What if the collar on my neck doesn't work? I was afraid it would make me... "
Thinking over the reaction of her desk mate Christopher Burba, Mrs. Tucker stood up and patted her shoulder to comfort her.
"As long as you cooperate obediently, everything will be fine. Of course I will not let their students get hurt; you only need to display your normal abilities!
"Really?” replied Dianthe.
"Of course, this is a necessary social test element of the program. Your classmates are also a part of the society around you. These are all things to be recorded for the reference of the United States Department of State. Mrs. Tucker smiled, took a cup of hot coffee from the water cooler and handed it to Dianthe to calm her down.
"Humans are amazing... Through one thing, they can study for so many purposes, although not with the myth of biological strength, but with special wisdom.
"You also have your wisdom, okay? A peace of mind to go to school here! If there is anything you don't understand in school, come to me.
"Good! Thank you, Mrs. Tucker!”
Dianthe stood up and bowed, giving Mrs. Tucker a farewell.
"You need not be so nervous, remember to behave naturally! We welcome you as a member of the school!"
"I, I will try to be natural!”
Dianthe showed a smiling face, and Mrs. Tucker also took her out with a smile. After confirming witnessing the departure of Dianthe, she frowned a little. In fact, she didn't know about mythical creatures, and like many people, Dianthe was the first mythical creature she saw.
People are good at lying, although she persuaded Dianthe to set her mind at ease, she wasn’t aware of the black collar on Dianthe's neck. What's more, she didn't know whether there was a remote-controlled bomb in it or not. The reason why she told a lie was not to cause panic.

Ursus Ex Machina
Ozzy was a man of the wild. Raised in a remote village atop the world's mightiest mountain, he'd been taught to respect and revere the natural world. The realm he was born into had been there long before him, and it would remain there long after him. Sure, there was the occasional madman who threatened to destroy it, but such boasts were always empty. No one individual was actually capable of demolishing this beautiful blue-and-green ball Ozzy called home. No matter what terrible magics these villains wielded, they were incapable of causing permanent harm to the environment. Even if the planet was completely devastated, it would recover. Life would find a way to flourish, same as it always had. That was what Ozzy believed from the bottom of his heart, so he never once felt the need to save the world he loved. After all, it was never truly in danger. The world would be fine no matter what. The people were a wee bit endangered, but that was another story altogether. However, what would happen if Ozzy suddenly found himself devoid of his beloved wilds? What would the man do if the realm he knew - one of wonder, magic, and chaos - was replaced with a man-made environment of concrete, industry, and steam? Ozzy could never imagine such a thing happening, and yet that was his new reality. After losing a fateful confrontation with a mad wizard, he and his friends found themselves transported to a strange world so thoroughly alien that every waking moment feels like a fever dream. Separated and scattered to the four corners of this land, each of these adventurers will need to adapt, survive, and overcome if they hope to reunite. They would also need to do so quickly. The sooner they are able to find one another, the sooner they can figure out a way back home and have another crack at putting an end to the villain's plans. Whether such a thing was actually possible in a world with barely any magic in it was a valid concern, but Ozzy had more immediate things to worry about. For instance, why did the air smell like a perpetual forest fire? How did ships sail through the sky as if it were water? And most importantly, was the pavement he was hurtling towards at high speed much softer than it looked? Probably not, but a man could hope.

A Primeval Future
Follow the story of a modern caveman as he learns to survive, thrive, and shape his nascent civilization in a world yet untouched by man. Expect a focus on the nitty-gritty of primitive living, especially early on. I plan for this to eventually progressing to the settlement management and politics stage as people gravitate towards the one guy who looks like he knows what he's doing, but this will likely take some time. Despite the occasional system elements, skilling and levels will not be a part of this story. No shortcuts. There will be violence and there will be sexuality but there will be no sexual violence. I hate reading that crap and I hate writing it even more. This is my first serious foray into writing. I plan to put out at least 1 chapter a week, more when I can. Constructive criticism is very much welcomed as are ideas and suggestions! Cover image credit: "Mesolithic camp site" by Wessex Archaeology is licensed with CC BY-NC 2.0.
