VIIIth Century, year 63, Brumáire. Day 00. In the Unknown.
"Kof, kof" Ashkan forced his lungs to breath, but with each breath it was the same as inhaling doses and doses of dust, it was agonizing, his throat became dry, his eyes watered, his skin burned as if hot oil had been dripped on his delicate skin.
"Oh, I forgot, you're a human" That slightly sarcastic comment was aimed directly at Ashkan, who else but him could be a human there?
So with a touch of that being's finger on his forehead suppressed all the pain Ashkan was suffering. He looked around his skin and everything seemed normal, he took a deep breath and felt as if he had just come out of a drowning, relieved to be able to breathe, relieved not to feel that agony again.
"What have you done to me?"
"Hm I believe we ended up getting a little further apart than usual, that's dangerous"
Ashkan's question was not answered, nor was it going to be answered if he insisted. Around that, Ashkan deduced the situation around the comment that being made to himself, they were in a dangerous region.
Naturally Ashkan only remembered up to the moment he finished the runeic incantation on the crystal.
"I believe I ended up in that place after the enchantment?"
While Ashkan deduced with the little information he had, he was happy to be able to breathe again without any pain.
But that happiness was momentary, quickly Ashkan reported that he need more information.
"What is this place?"
"A place where none of those can enter, separate and distant. A place of waiting, we can say so."
Ashkan understood nothing about the speech of that being, much less had he read about such place.
"A place of waiting?" Ashkan whispered to himself, trying to decipher what that being meant.
"Come, we need to get there soon human."
That being was brief, his rudeness frightening even the most rudeness diplomats that he had ever the dishonour to meet. But what can he do now? The best is following this thing.

As Ashkan walked by a river, he kept noticing the scenery around him, all he could see was gray, the river had no flow, in fact the river was going in one direction but not towards the sea. It was as if the direction, the course of the river had been distorted.
The leaves of the trees on the ground were turning gray and a strong dark mist was enveloping the entire space.
With sudden chills coming from the back of his neck, Ashkan felt a danger warning coming from behind a tree. And instinctively his gaze met with that creature, it was only a shadow, that creature's eyes were glowing, it was as if it was staring at Ashkan, and when he least expected it an evil smile covered the whole lower part of the shadow's head, it was as if there was no jaw, only the smile could be showed.
"I don't think it's a good idea to stare at this being too much, he will soon find out that you are a human and it will become chaos around here, before that happens I need to take you to him"
Ashkan looked away, he understood the advice perfectly, and if he didn't follow it his life would be at risk.
Ashkan didn't feel tired even though he had been walking for a long time, he didn't know how many days had passed, nor had the flow of the river changed. Everything seemed the same, but the walking continued. Until that being stopped. The intense mist didn't help to see what make him stop, but suddenly, he knelt down and took Ashkan' to knelt too, but referring for what?
Once Ashkan' cloud ask something a gate opened, a huge black gate, but it didn't look luxurious like the ones in the palace or in other kingdoms, it was modest, but perfect for protection.
As the gate was about to open itself completely, particles of gray emptied into the mist.
"human a advice, first of all. This being you are about to meet. Never insult him, and if necessary, point out where you came from."

That outlandish being turned around after this act of kindness and walked back into the middle of the dense mist.
"Come in!" A loud command caused Ashkan to immediately step through the gate, even against his will he felt it was better to follow than to see his head rolling free.
At that moment when he entered the gate, there was no longer a dense fog, but nothing still had color, but the shadows that were there were no longer shadows but soldiers, with their black armor, you could see that they were well equipped and trained. One of those Soldiers pointed to the River, in that River was a huge being with black armor and with greenish details, he was staring at the River, as if he was waiting for something.
"Hello?" Ashkan didn't understand why that soldier is pointing there, but maybe it was better to approach that being who looked like the Ruler of that place. And so Ashkan did, with cautious steps towards the being. Ashkan has seen many strong people, but this one was beyond his comprehension.
With each step that Ashkan took towards that being, the more he felt anguished, a frightening presence capable of making a person go into despair.
"Monster!" Ashkan quoted without thinking, it could be an insult so he promptly knelt down to apologize.
But that being simply raised one of his hands, ordering him to stop.
Ashkan understood that it was not necessary to kneel that he had not offended the being, and stood up, but when he looked back there were three guards ready to rip his head off. Shivers spread through Ashkan's body.
"Who ordered you to stand up?" That being asked firmly, and Ashkan promptly knelt down again.
"I believe it was a long distance to get here"
"No, no, I don't feel tired-" what Ashkan was saying was completely wrong, his body collapsed in fatigue, it was as if hundreds of sacks of grain were on his back.
"You can settle into one of my quarters, don't worry"
The elegance of that being was something out of reality, he was a true ruler. And it was exactly because of this elegance that Ashkan would never dare to reject that order, because I was never a request and Ashkan could leave something to be desired in many aspects but not foolish enough not to be able to differentiate an order, even if indirectly.
"I thank you very much..."
After that brief introduction, Ashkan retired with a guard to his quarters, given to him by that being.
VIIIth Century, year 63, Brumáire. Day 20. In the Florenz Kingdom.
A dozen li away, the Monster known as Aquila, another General in the battlefield, was desperately running with all his army behind. All his indifference was gone, he always felt superior to all. But when he had his little village invaded by the Austrelia kingdom and almost killed by that terrible Grand General, he gave up his service in your village, he knew that there was almost no one stronger than that Grand General and knowing that he was under his tutelage was a great relief and confident
"That, that was beyond anything, that energy was beyond a simple Human, it was beyond, that was..."
Her stomach was moving, and every think of it made he want to vomit. His face frightened, his life was in danger and he knew it. No matter what the Queen's had said, it was wiser to return alive and give that information than die in battle
"What is this power, where did it come?, we should not have underestimated that, it was a mistake, and now maybe we can reap bitter consequences. What is that Kingdom? How could a small kingdom have it within itself?
With all that fear, he pecked through Bhram's forest, a path with several high-level monsters that was usually avoided, which made the distance from the Austrelia kingdom to the Florenz Kingdom vast. But at that moment dealing with two or three true monsters was child's play, and what mattered was to be as far away from it as possible.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion.
