《Breaking the constellations》Chapter 10 - Back to the camp

Gael didn’t even arrive near the tent before being stopped by some guards. “Stop!” The guard looked at him with a stern face. “This is not your courtyard for you to go anywhere you want!”
He looked at the guard, and said. “Tell John that Gael is here.” The man scoffed before entering the tent. He didn’t blame the behavior of the guard, spending three weeks fighting for your life was not something easy, and people really changed by doing that. Living like you were in hell everyday, struggling on the verge of death, not knowing if you’d be alive next morning was horrible for a person’s mind.
Gael had experienced that feeling first hand during his stay in the jungle. The only difference was that he had adapted and tempered his emotions.
Most people were changed in bad ways after entering the tutorial. At least he knew that kids were safer than they were. Kids below 12 wouldn’t be sent to the tutorial for some reason. Some speculate that it was because they were too weak or because they wouldn’t serve as a fighting force.
After some time, the guard left the tent. The man had a frown behind his helmet, and said after looking at Gael. “The commander gave his permission for you to enter.”
He nodded to the guard and entered the tent.
Arriving inside of it, he looked around. He could see a big table, the sketch of a map laid there. Many points could be seen on the map. It was obvious that they were camps. Coincidently, the ruins where Gael went were on the opposite direction where the camps laid, and because of that he hadn’t encountered anyone while on his journey. People began to leave their camps, but most of them like to explore around it, gathering resources and killing monsters.
The guides didn’t only stay around the bonfire while sleeping all day, he knew that they gave them tips and guidance as rewards everyday after they defeated the invasions. He also knew that one of the information given by Monoceros was that the humans needed to unite, or death was the only thing awaiting them.
The room was cozy and comfortable, illuminated the most around the table, where the map was laid.
Six people were talking around the table, three on each side of it. On one side stood John, and on the other ,Rude.
“Look who finally appeared after missing for long. Only show your nose around here when it’s convenient for you. Huh!?” Rude said while looking at Gael.
John didn’t open his mouth to defend Gael, because what Rude said was basically true. Gael had indeed prioritized his goals over the safety of the camp, a necessary sacrifice for him to get stronger.

“You are indeed right, I left the camp because of my own interests, and am back because of them.” Gael said while looking at Rude. The man trembled under his gaze, and quickly diverted his eyes from Gael, looking at John while saying.
“It’s this kind of man that you permit to enter the commander’s tent?”
John glanced at Gael and said. “His advice saved us the first day. You know better than me what happened to the other camps.” Rude became quiet after listening to that. John looked at Gael and said. “Let’s listen to what he has to say, there is nothing to lose.”
Gael looked at John and was surprised by what he was seeing. The man clearly had a good capacity to lead. He didn’t survive in his visions, but his actions could have created another person capable of leading humanity in the future. Of course, it was too early to arrive at any conclusions.
The only thing he was worried about was the influence that Rude had over the camp. How had their alliance came to be? They wouldn’t simply join hands for no reason. However, he knew that he was in no position to ask these things, after all, it was just like they said, he had abandoned the camp, and had no right to say how things would work without contributing.
He took a deep breath and said after organizing his thoughts. “I know that you are struggling to find a way to unite the camps, but I can tell you that only one thing will work against other camps. Strength!”
Both commanders looked at him, John asked after thinking for a while. “How so?”
“If you send scouts to other camps to contact them to form an alliance, they won’t listen to what you have to say. Just like this camp, they had struggled against monsters, and wouldn’t like to leave their fate at the hand of anyone else. However, they know they have to unite with other camps in order to survive, and they will only listen to someone strong enough to be above them!”
“And who will be that person? You?” Rude said with disdain in his voice. He saw what Gael was capable of, but he had also achieved superhuman capabilities by now.
Every person realized that strength was what moved this world by now, and not having a powerful leader would be the downfall of a group. Because of that most leaders realized the importance of strength, and because they were in a position of leadership, the system recognized them and awarded some extra points, enough to make them more powerful than the average survivor.

Most leaders had already achieved Low (peak) on all their statuses, and had at least one C rank skill. And most importantly, Gael had only fought and showed his prowess before skills began to be bought on the camps. Even if he was fearless and powerful, without skills he would surely be left behind.
“Yes. I will be the one that shows them who is truly powerful.” Before even finishing his phrase, an aura surrounded Gael and expanded outward. A blue light could be seen shining on his eyes. It looked like fire was emanating from his iris and going toward the pupil, disappearing in the darkness. His eyes turned this way when soul eyes were activated.
This was one of the applications from the skill he discovered, soul suppression! Although he couldn’t move living souls, he could suppress them with the power of his own soul by concentrating it on his eyes.
The weakness of this move was that one needed to be in his field of vision in order for it to work, if he couldn’t look at the target, or if he looked away, the suppression would end.
The people in the room were sweating buckets! They could barely move while under the gaze of Gael.
One interesting thing he discovered was that people showed different reactions, and he could ‘see’ what they were feeling by looking at their souls. He could perceive fear from everyone in the room, but from Rude he could detect envy, and from John amazement. However, he couldn’t read everything about a person, this sidekick ability needed to be trained in the future.
“Do you think that I will be enough for this task?” Asked Gael after deactivating the skill.
Rude gulped in fear and answered. “Ye… Yes! You will be more than enough.” Gael nodded to him. He looked at John and saw him nodding as well, agreeing with the plan.
Gael stepped forward and looked at the table. He could see the red point symbolizing their camp, and the blue ones below it, symbolizing the other camps.
After memorizing the layout of the map, Gael looked at the table and said while pointing with his finger. “I’ll begin by conquering the closest camp, and will follow in a zig zag after that. I won’t have enough time to organize things. So you’ll have to send troops after me to guide them. Be sure to keep the camp crystals safe.” After saying this, he looked toward Rude and John and finished. “The survival of everyone in the tutorial will depend on your future actions, don’t disappoint these people.” Gael turned around and left toward Monoceros after saying this.
The camp crystal that he talked about was one of the most precious things that the camp had. It was the bonfire itself. The guide could turn the bonfire into a crystal, and fusing it with other camps, they could evolve and provide more benefits for those around it.
Catching a camp crystal was not an easy thing, because the people of the camp would do anything possible to protect it. It was their life line after all.
After walking to Monoceros, he sat before it and said. “I need to buy some things.”
“Back again… Browse my shop as you want.” Monoceros said while smiling.
He went to the ‘special’ section and browsed there for a while until he found what he was looking for.
Item
Points
Spacial ring
1.000.000
He could only look at that item before, but couldn’t buy it because he had other priorities. But now, he had accumulated 3 million points, and there was much more coming in the future.
“I wonder how I’ll earn enough points to buy the S+ skill…. Now I understand why no one ever bought that ability in the past.”
It was like the most expensive ability in the shop was there just for show. He had killed a legion of enemies in the past three weeks, but he didn’t earn enough to even come close to buying the S+ skill. Even if he didn’t spend anything since arriving in the tutorial, and just accumulated points, he would only have four and a half million points at best.
“I’ll find some way….” He thought. The S+ ability would be of great help to him in helping humanity in the future.
Rude left the tent with fury in his eyes. “How could that wimp suddenly show up and interfere in my business?” He thought while going to reunite with a few of his subordinates.
Rude was not a bad person per see. He only had his own interests at front, not caring what others wanted or not. Or at least he thought so about himself. Many dangerous situations in his life were avoided because he knew how to compromise and let things go sometimes. But he wouldn’t just bow his head down and do nothing. He would pay back the humiliation that he went through, even if that was the last thing that he did.

This is my first attempt at writing a story. I am a complete beginner at this. The closest thing to an organized story I’ve ever written is essay reports back in high school. There might be syntax errors and weird language all over the place. So, apologies in advance. I’ll be trying my best to make this story as interesting as possible, and with your feedback I am sure I can make something nice out of it. Constructive criticism is appreciated. And you are welcome to comment any errors you might notice. I’ll try to fix them up as soon as I can. For now, I don’t have a schedule. But if the story gets traction, I will try to work something out. **Cover Image Drawn by me.
