《Bloodlain》Chapter 3

The mansion of house Ramsey was bustling with activity. The young lady of the house was to participate in the ranking tournament two days later. For centuries, their home had always provided the special ops unit with geniuses, and lady Sonia was no exception. Elder Ramsey stood in front of his daughter's room.
Knock! Knock!
"You may enter"
Elder Ramsey walked into the room. Lady Sonia was on her bed, polishing her daggers. The sun from the window reflected in her white hair. Lady Sonia looked nothing like the Elder Ramsey. While Elder Ramsey was tall, with a rough and green hair, Lady Sonia was short and had a white silky hair which fell to her waist level. Sonia sighed when she saw her father.
"Dad! This is the fifth time you've come here today"
Elder Ramsey laughed.
"Of course. This is the biggest event in Finah, I had to make sure my only child was well prepared. After all, this event could be your debut. You kno-"
"Our family has always ranked first in the tournament. I know, I know. You've said this so many times that it's now in my memory. I've said this before dad, I'll win this"
"Fine. I won't bother you again. Just make sure what happened during last week's trip doesn't bother you"
"Okay dad"
Elder Ramsey walked out and shut the door. Sonia knew she had a lot of responsibilities placed on her. She had to live up to her family's expectations. Sonia didn't know who was participating in the tournament, but she knew she was capable enough to be in the top 5 at least. Her major fear was Keziah, the bloodlord's little sister. Sonia had met Princess Keziah once during a dinner party. The event was full of elders and nobles. Some time during the event, a noble from one of the lower houses groped her. She got pissed, and the aura she released was frightening. She could barely stand under the pressure of the aura. If Princess Cassandra had not intervened that time, the noble would have ceased to exist. But this didn't really surprise Sonia. After all, Princess Keziah was the sister of the bloodlord.

Lady Sonia sighed. Ever since her mum died, her dad had drowned himself in work. He still made time for her when he could but it wasn't enough. In his absence, he still believed in her, so she wasn't going to let him down.
. . . . . .
Rain lay on his bed, thinking of the event going to take place. While most people were busy preparing, Rain wasn't bothered in the least. He had complete confidence in himself, at least he did. After feeling the density of Keziah's aura, Rain wondered if he had underestimated his peers. Keziah had lived in the palace with the king and her mum. Even so, Rain had come into contact with Keziah dozens of times since he acted as Cassandra's escort. In all those times he met her, he never once felt the strength she recently displayed. Her power was by no means inferior to his and could be said that, it was a few steps away from the power of a bloodlord.
Still, Keziah's power was inferior in every way possible to Cassandra's. On their continent, bloodlord's were considered to hold godlike power. No matter how much a person was gifted or talented, if the person was not a bloodlord, they couldn't contend with one.
Rain sighed. If Keziah was this powerful, there was no guarantee that there were no other people who were also powerful.
"Damn it" Rain murmured.
Rain shut his eyes for a minute, and then opened them. He smirked.
"Let's see... What power the mortals have"
. . . .
Finah was bustling with activity. It was the morning of the tournament and the arena was packed to the maximum, so much so that, plasma force experts who arrived late didn't get a seat and had to levitate over the arena. High ranking officials were made to sit at the VIP area. All the contestants were already assembled in the arena.

"Today is a great day for our kingdom. I am Lester, the one heading this entire tournament. It is every youth's dream to be a part of the special ops unit, and today, you have been given the opportunity to fight for the position you crave for. This tournament consists of three rounds. The first round will feature a battle between the contestants and powerful plasma beasts, the second round will be an all out war between the surviving contestants. Out of seven hundred and twenty-five people, only forty five people will progress to the next round. The next round is the true ranking tournament. The forty five people who passed will fight one on one battles to be ranked. The more battles you win, the higher your rank. Know this, less than thirty percent of you will survive. Are there any questions?"
There was silence.
"Then, let the games begin"
The spectators cheered loudly. Rain stood in the crowd, wearing his white tunic and black boots. He looked in the direction of Keziah, then smirked. Sonia moved from the assembly as the contestants dispersed. She had only one goal in mind, 'Destroy all my enemies'.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
