《Repeat》7. Pursuit
Advertisement
We’re going east as planned and we’re able to avoid the warzone. Or so I wanted to be. But a band of cavalry from the human side is pursuing us as we try to run. Long legged lizard has more power and speed than normal horse so we’re ahead of them. But the weight of the carriage slows us down to the point we’re at the same speed. So far, we’re lucky enough because the terrain is plain enough for our carriage to travel ahead. But, I don’t think it will hold long enough.
Even if they’re human, I don’t think they’ll just let us go. If, we get captured in this place they may think of us as a spy and torture us. Or maybe when they see Erfia they will think that we’ve betrayed human race and join beast man race. Anyway, there is no option to be captured.
“Reis, how long has it been since Erfia fill my mana ring?”
“About forty minutes.”
Another twenty minutes until it’s fully filled eh. It seems I’ve got no choice.
“Reis! I need you to take over the carriage.”
“Wha, what?”
I give the leash to Reis as she come to my side. I put my hand on the Keeper and take a mask. A clown mask with a hole only for my eyes. On the right eye of the mask, it got another cut line so it makes like a plus (+) hole in it. I take another two clown mask and hand it to Reis and put it into Erfia by myself. It seems Erfia is concentrating hard enough as she’s not bothered by me putting the mask.
“What’s this mask for?” Reis asks me.
“Eyes on the front!” I shout as we nearly hit some little rock.
Reis pulls the leash to the right and we manage to avoid hitting the rock. At this speed, even a little rock could be fatal.
“You’re a slave of Mada the Raider now, I can’t allow them to see your face.”
I walk to the back of the carriage to face the band of cavalry. I take my long bow of the Keeper, the one I used on the desert, and then I take a spear out of the Keeper.
When they see me take a bow and a spear out of nowhere, some of them shoot at me with a crossbow. I’m lucky enough none of them is using a short range gun. I take a board under my feet to protect me. Without blood transformation spell, I’ve got no chance to deflect all of the incoming arrows.
I put down the board and then put the spear on the bow. This bow is a special long bow that only uses spear as its projectile. Doesn’t matter whether it’s a javelin, halberd, pole axe, or a simple spear. As long as it has a long handle and a pointing tip or blade in the end of it, like a spear normally do, then it will work as this long bow projectile. The name is Pointing Tip of Desperation.
“Hey, look, what’s that? Is he using a spear as an arrow?”
“A long bow and spear as an arrow. Oh shit, he’s Mada the Raider!”
Took you long enough to recognize me. But unfortunately it’s too late for you.

I take the chance when they’re reloading their crossbows and shoot my first arrow, or in this case my first spear. I’m able to penetrate 3 cavalries and took another two as they hit the fallen one. This long bow that uses a spear as its projectile could produce a great amount of power as it being unleashed. I take another look through the hole in my mask. There’re still fifteen of them. That’s why I don’t really like crossbow. They took too much time to reload.
Five of them is putting some distance and then return to the warzone. I guess they’re leaving to report about my whereabouts. But ,I don’t want more trouble than this. I take a spear with some explosive stone on its tip and release another arrow to the retreating cavalry.
~boom~
One big explosion confirms their death. The remaining cavalry is enraged and pursuing us faster than before. They become closer as I feel the terrain is starting to change into an uphill road. The remaining ten change their weapon to spear and sword. They’re too close to the carriage so I can’t use another explosive spear. I shoot another spear, but this time it only manages to hit one cavalry. They took their lesson and give some distance between them to avoid being penetrated at once or hit the fallen one.
“Dad! It’s done.”
“Good, thanks.” I quickly take the ring and put it in my finger.
~By the will of red blood, let this body of mine contain your whole might. As I say, blood transformation.~
With the blood transformation, I could get a better reflex and sight. I put the Pointing Tip of Desperation back into the Keeper and took a twin hooks. This twin hooks are yet another special weapon of mine. It has one meter of chain that connects both of it at the end of the handle. The chain is a special chain that could extend to twenty meters at most. The Snake Hook.
I jump toward one cavalier. By my blood transformation, I can easily dodge the attack he launches. Of course, I can easily kill him and taking the horse with me. It’s been so long since I ride a normal horse. I throw both of my twin hooks and it kills another two cavalier. I grab the chain and the twin hooks back to my hand. Only six left. I take another stance but suddenly all of them stopped the pursuit.
“Yay, dad, you’re the best!” Erfia is yelling from the back of the carriage.
No something is wrong. They just stopped? What’s the meaning of this? I try to look into the warzone. But I see nothing from the warzone. It just another war. But then I look at the direction of the human race camp. A big ball of fire is flying towards us.
Shit, how come they know we’re here? Did the five cavalry that I shot with explosive spear still alive? No, no way. Then, how? But I’ve got no time to think about it.
~By the will of wind and the earth, let these touches the greatness of your might. As I say, speed of wind~
I put the Snake Hook back to the Keeper and I jump from the horse. I decrease air resistance toward my body into nothing. The target is the front of carriage through its inside. I quickly grab Erfia and Reis from the carriage. Now we’re floating in front of the carriage.

~Boom~
The big ball of fire hits the carriage and destroys it into nothing. We got caught up in the blast and being sent flying to the cliff side of this hill.
“Hey Mada, we’re falling!”
~By the will of the raging flesh, let this weak person get ahold of your power to strengthen this weak person. As I say, flesh of immortal.”
By this spell, I could contract or reflexes my muscle to its maximum so it will harden or elastic as I prefer it. I put both Reis and Erfia in my hug. I increase the air friction so our fall speed will decrease as I hit the first tree by my right shoulder. Unfortunately, the speed of wind only controls the friction of air and ground. Other than that, I can’t control it at all. So, I hit the tree at normal friction. By using flesh of immortal, I harden my muscle so it will prevent the bone from breaking.
After hitting a few trees, we finally reach the ground. I slowly increase the ground friction so I could minimize the damage my body took. Finally, we stop at the ground.
“Dad, dad, are you okay?”
Erfia puts off the mask and asks me in worry.
I still can’t feel the damage because the flesh of immortal is still intact. But I can guess the damage as I can’t move my right hand.
I look far into the hill. I see the cavalry is retreating. But I’m sure they will come back with a search party.
~The might of the red blood has emerged in victory. The greatness of wind and earth has been proved. The power of the flesh has shown its strength.~
I dispel all of the spell and finally I can tell the damage my body took. My right shoulder is dislocated and some bruises on my back and my left hand. Flesh of immortal indeed protect my bone from being broken, but it has a blowback which it will increase the damage received by the muscle. Nothing wrong with my leg fortunately. But I still feel the pain of the dislocated shoulder and the bruise.
“We need, to go! They’ll come with a search party. Erfia, put your mask on.”
Erfia put hers mask back on her face as she hears me.
I force myself to stand and walk. We need to get out of here quickly. With my left hand trying to lift my right hand, I make the space distorted in front of my hand. I grab the side of the hover motorcycle which is inside the Keeper and make it appears in front of us. I take the one that's haven’t been used at all since I got it from the desert.
“Reis, you need to drive.”
~ba dump~
I fall to my knee pretty hard. Shit, it seems my left leg took some damage that I didn’t realize before. But at least it’s not as bad as the bruise in my hand and back.
“You can’t force yourself any further.”
Reis and Erfia help me to get to the hover motorcycle. As the bruise in my back is pretty bad, I can’t even hold my own body. Reis makes me lay on her back while she’s starting the hover motorcycle. Erfia get on to the hover motorcycle in my back. She’s making sure to put enough space between us so she won’t touch my back and inflict more pain on me.
Shit, if only I could use a magic like a normal person, I could just use fly magic to avoid the damage to my body. Oh God, you really like to toy with me, aren’t you?
We leave left the landing spot and heading north. If, the human race thinks that we’re walking then they’ll just send a small search party. But, if they report that the fleeing human is Mada the Raider, they will definitely send a big search party and widen the range of the search. Oh, beast man, I hope you win the battle so it won’t happen.
“We need to get as far as we could.”
Reis does as I say, and we’re still going north.
“Mada, we need to stop and treat your wound.”
“No, we can’t. They will send a big party to search for me as they realize that they’re facing Mada the Raider. But, I can’t figure how they were able to pinpoint our location without anyone reported.”
We continue our journey without stopping.
“Reis, do me a favor, do you know a spell to detect anything that might follow us?”
“Yes, I do. Do you want me to cast it?”
“Yeah, please do.”
~Air is my ally, Earth is my ally, Tree is my ally, Animal is my ally. Please, I ask you to help this ally of yours to emerge. Alienated.~
I can feel some sort of small blast wave t is spreading. It’s so small that only people that train their body so well could feel it. It can’t be detected by normal magic user.
“I see something strange. One bird is not responding to my call. I guess it’s under control of a magic user.”
A flying enemy eh. Shit, it’s going to hurt. I take a rather big crossbow from the Keeper into my right hand. The crossbow is loaded and ready to shoot. I try to straighten my body so I can pass the crossbow into my left hand. It hurts as hell. I put my body back in the Reis back and take to the sky.
“Tell me, how is it look and where is it? The bird.”
“Oh, alright. It’s an eagle. Small one. It’s following us at the height approximately 50 meters and right behind us about 100 meters.”
I imagine the eagle and its location. The crossbow might be a normal crossbow, but the arrow is a homing arrow that will chase everything I imagine. I shoot the arrow. After some distance in the air, the arrow turns by itself. I wait for a few seconds.
“How is it?” I ask Reis once more.
“Wait a second.” Reis casts the detection spell once again. “It’s gone, nothing follows us anymore.”
“Good. Then, we’re not going to stop after we pass at least another four hill. Or else they might find us.”
I lost all the energy left and let go of the crossbow. I don’t care as I’ve got plenty of those crossbows. Right now it is more important to get away.
