The attack was starting, and I heard another explosion. It was close to us. I turned around and looked towards Lily, who was standing by a pillar. She was looking in a particular direction. I called out to her, and she responded to my call. She looked serious.
“Rejoice! Rejoice! ” a man shouted behind us.
I turned around to face the man. He was behind Kain. Kain slowly turned around and saw him. They looked at each other, and the man smiled with menace. I could sense that Kain was trembling in his feet.
His fear was consuming him, and it affects me. My feet started to quiver. I sensed my heart beating faster, or is it Kain's heartbeat that I was feeling right now?
I needed him to stay calm.
"Kain, Keep calm. Your emotion is affecting me." I told him.
“Prepared to meet your maker!” he yelled as his body glows and a bright light appeared and blinded us.
Kain's fear had affected me. It hindered me from making any decision. Is this the end for me? I just got reincarnated here, and I died moments later? Is this supposed to be a joke?
Before I knew it, Kain’s father encased him with rock magic. The man exploded inside the rock cage and sent debris everywhere. Lily used her light spell and created a large sphere around the explosion to block the debris from hitting civilians.
“Nice Job, Lily,” I gave her a thumbs up.
“W-What’s going o-on?” The security guard screamed in confusion.
“We’re under attack,” Kain’s father said.
“B-by whom?” The guard floundered.
“That,” Lily pointed out at a group in the street.
“Nice move there, Miss,” Kain’s father complimented her, and he introduced himself, “My name is Adan.”
“You’re welcome, and my name is Lily,”
“Hey, you, called the Kingdom’s guard. I’ll try to buy you some time,” Adan said.
“Oh, okay,” The security ran between his legs.
“The rest of you, can you get my family and the civilians to safety?”
“Yes, we can,” a guard responded.
The guards followed Adan’s instructions and started to lead the civilians to safety.
Adan looked at Lily and said, “Can you fight?”
“If you can keep up with me,” she smiled.
“I guess I can take that as a yes.”
“Honey, just be careful out there,” Kain’s mother cautioned him.
“I will. You don’t have to worry about me, Evie,” he reassured her.

She hugged him and turned her head towards Lily, “Can you keep my husband safe?”
Lily gave Evie an OK sign using her finger. Then, She and Adan headed towards the group of extremists. Evie grabbed Kain and his brother’s hand and followed the rest of the civilians.
“Hey…. Errr, aren’t you a bit worried about her? ” Kain’s sent me his thought.
“No, Not really, she can handle herself. I’m more worried about what she’ll do with the group than what they do to her,” I responded.
“Oh, Okay.”
--------------------------------
After a while, we reached where a large crowd gathered in an open space. They were pushing against themselves, trying to get inside the building. A security guard pointed his finger at it and ordered us.
“Please go inside the bunker.”
We headed towards the shelter, and as we get closer to the entrance. Kain’s family got pushed around. At that moment, I wanted to blow away the people who were pushing them but looking at the situation. I realize that people were panicking and when they panic. They would do whatever necessary for them to stay alive.
I looked at the man in charge, and he was being overwhelmed by the influx of people. Where are the rest of his subordinates? They should help him. Not abandoned him.
The security guards who were with us help the man in charge. The order got restored, and the civilians entered the building in an orderly manner.
The security guards who were with us help the man in charge. The order got restored, and the civilians entered the building in an orderly manner.
The order soon broke because we heard an explosion. The civilians started to panic and pushed each other again. The guards and the man in charge quickly responded and got the situation under control.
Order restored, but there were still people getting push around as they entered the shelter.
We entered the shelter. The guards lead them to the large space with people inside. We found a place near a TV set and settled in. Then, I heard a commotion near us.
A group of people was hammering questions towards a guard.
“Can you find my daughter. She’s not here,” A man voice asked him.
“Hey! Let me get outside. My wife is still out there! Let me out!” another man yelled at him.
“Please, find my sister. She’s still outside,” a woman's voice pleaded.
“Where’s…. My……. Mommy…,” The boy said. He choked out his words in between sniffles from crying.

I accessed each one of their memory and saw how the person they mention looks. Then, I used my all-seeing eye to find the ones they were looking for. After a while, I found them, but only one survives, and the others died. The woman's sister was still alive.
Her left leg had been crush by a large boulder, and she couldn't move. To make matters worse, she was losing too much blood and close to dying. Fortunately, the woman’s sister was close to the shelter.
I might send a telepathic message to Lily, but it would be too late to rescue the sister. Not to mention the group she was fighting right now.
I looked at Kain and wondered if he would agree for us to help the sister. Kain’s feet started to trembles, and I could feel his anxiety. He figured I was going to need his help for this one.
“Hey, I-I can’t,” he told me in his mind, “I will not risk my life without knowing I would survive.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll survive. You have my ability and my experience,” I reassured him. He looked bewildered as I said that.
Then, out of nowhere, the entrance of the shelter exploded, and a man entered. On his hand was the man in charge. He threw the man in front. He looked around the shelter.
“Kukukuku…. This will be a party,” The man said. He went on and hurled several rocks at us. In a flash, I forced Kain’s body to duck along with his mother and brother. The rocks hit several people in the head, chest, foot, and stomach, killing them.
Their bodies dropped to the ground lifelessly. Kain’s brother looked at the man with rage and screamed, “You’ll pay for these!!!”
“Axel!!” Evie shouted his name. Axel ignored the shout and cast a beam of red-hot flame at the man.
“Oh?” The man said in an amused tone. The beam hits him, and a cloud of smoke appeared.
The smoke clears up, and the man was still standing, uninjured by the attack. He brushed off the dust from his cloth and looked at Arel, and yelled, “You dare to fight me, Morthy The Guardian!!!”
Axel stepped forward in front of us and cast two fireballs in both his hand. He looked at Morthy and said, “I won’t let you touch these people.”
“Hah!” he jeered, “Do you think you can defeat me, Boy?”
“I do,” Axel declare. The fireball that was on his palm engulfed him, and Axel said, “Phoniex Armor!”
The fire disappeared, and Axel appeared with flaming armor, wings, and sword. I was surprised to see the change in his body.
Kain said, “My brother is an advance magic user and a well-known one in school.”
“An advanced magic-user at that age? He seems to be more reliable that I thought,” I told him.
“Yeah…. He is,” He murmured. Somehow, I hit his bad spot. Evie looked at him with confusion on her face. She might think that his son is weird.
I looked at Axel. Axel tightened his grip and started channeling his mana. He pushed the sword in front of him and shouted, “Flame Thrust!”
He thrust his sword in front of him, releasing a flaming thrust at Morthy. The attack pierced Morthy’s armor, and he howled. His body dropped on the floor, and the fire began to engulf him.
Well, that was anti-climactic. The man hadn't shown his full skill. A spectacular let-down by, Morthy the Guardian. I shook my head. Oh well, at least the people were alright.
I told Kain, “Hey, let’s exit using that blown-up entrance.”
“What? No!” Kain whispered. “I won’t do it!”
I sighed. I never thought I had to do this to him. Kain felt something bad was going to happen to him. I forcibly moved his hand and cast a lightning spell on his index finger.
He tried to move his hand, but I overwhelm him with nightmares. It was a good thing I remember Holway’s explanation on how he uses the Memory Viewer ability.
“How?!” He gasps.
Kain tried to pull away but couldn't. Then, he said, “Please don’t do it!”
“You know exactly what'll happen if you disobey my orders, right?” I continued, “You’ve read my mind when I think about killing your mom with your own hand. So, you better follow my order!”
“Okay! just don’t hurt them!” He conceded as I read his mind.
“Good, I promise,” I told him.
I pointed to a restroom, and we headed towards it. Kain entered it. Once, inside I transformed Kain’s body into a bird, and we flew towards the exits and headed straight towards where the woman was.

Harem (not sorry!) Magic System Short Chapters Dancing Bears (at least so far) Seriously, this is a second-world low fantasy/science-fantasy featuring a strong, but flawed male protagonist, a cheeky teenage boy that’s driving him crazy, a wee bit o’ Scots flavor, and a whole lot of culture clashing. I’m preparing to relaunch this story on Kindle once the second and third books are ready and I’d love some feedback as I move through those revisions. I'm serious about the feedback. All comments are welcome. I'll name a characters after you. And kill them, if you want. :) Oh, did I mention soulless assassins and cannibals? Yeah, Aralt’s day is not getting any better. cover image by brosedesignz
