《Manaweaver》Chapter 11

James's family were busy preparing to move giving him the ability to roam the town and its outskirts. As he was walking down the streets, he noticed guards patrolling and people walking around focused on mundane tasks. The roads were rough having created from the constant walking of the towns people. There were no shops selling anything magic related instead, they sold the basic necessities for a commoner or low class adventurer.
Making his way toward the edge of the town in the opposite direction of the entrance, he slipped out of the undefended town’s perimeter. There was a forest that was cleared out already of monsters being used as a type of protection for the town.
As James headed further into the forest, he activated his mana sense and noticed the abundant nature element. It was a comforting feeling as he focused on trying to recognize any signatures of life. Even a bird or squirrel interacts in some way with mana or the elements by existing amongst it. This is usually taught in schools that by sending out a pulse of changed elemental mana can help a mage feel anything that moves against the pulse. Looking out for any type of intruders was less about his safety and more for training himself.
Eventually James found a small waterfall falling into a small stream of water with a cave behind it. It was hard to tell at first but when he sent a wave of mana into the cave, he could recognize the lack of life. He was quick to make to his way into the cave but made sure to be alert just in case of intruders.
Once he felt it was safe, he sat down and started to meditate to get his used mana back. Once his mana pool was full, James started to mentally clear his mind and focus inside of core . There is no actual physical area in the core but is more of a mental projection that houses any spell constructs.

Already having the spell constructs committed to memory form his past life, James started to get to work. Once he found himself in the empty blue space of the core he started to slowly draw out the outline for a basic lightning spell called lightning augment. While he won’t be able to be obvious of its use in front of anyone, it gives him some type of protection. Also consistently using spells and mana is likely to raise a mages stats such as intellect and wisdom. Therefore, it is important to pick good ones at the beginning.
As he goes over the outline multiple times, James can feel the lightning element start to surround his core. The lightning element continuously gets stronger, but he does not let that distract him from creating the spell. There are different ways to build spell constructs such as the outlining of prepared spell constructs like James is using, incantations, and if lucky experimenting with elements or mana. The similarities between the first two is repetition and already having knowledge of the spell. The experimenting method is by far the most difficult to use considering it is essentially an unknown spell being created and is solely based off random chances.
Outlining a spell construct is usually not recommended for beginners because you must know the exact spell construct, go at smooth constant pace, keep the exact same outline, and stay focused on meditation. These are advantages James has over any other mage of his age.
Time goes by while James keeps repeating over the same outline but does not let himself get discouraged. He finally noticed his mana running low but he can only hope it is completed soon. On his 34th outline of the construct he noticed the spell construct shine for a moment with lightning element in the core space then hears a ding which forced his mind back to reality.

Pulling up his system, James is introduced to his first spell created on his path to being a true manaweaver.
:::Ding: Gained spell- Lightning Augment Lvl 1
(While a basic spell for lightning mages, it is essential to be able to call upon your element to quickly deal with any foes. Lightning augment is used on the body or weapon to quicken any movement.)
Availability in spells increases as their class upgrades. For the first class a mage can have access up to ten spells without issue but only be able to use five at any given time. None of this is something James is worried about at the moment because he's filled with a sense of excitement and accomplishment.
Lightning augment is the perfect first spell for James. He can use it anytime without it being obvious in front of people and train his stats up. Also, it helps both his movement become quicker if needing to attack and can help him defend his family.
With a big grin James noticed the sun starting to set and decided to stand up ready to head home.
“Lightning augment,” James said casting his first spell to his legs. As he ran it felt foreign to his new body causing him to trip and stumble at times. Running through the forest James ran into trees or bushes which brought about many scratches and minor bleeding. Still though there was a grin plastered on his face.
Making sure to get used to the spell took some time but considering his past life it wasn’t long until he was successful. Eventually James made it home and a wave of mana fatigue hit him all at once. Not wanting to show any weakness he said hello to his family and quickly made his way to his room.
Finally falling into bed, James kept thinking of his trip to school coming up soon and how he has to work even harder starting now.

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
