《Promise》Chapter 30: Never again

As Kyle walked out of the door and out of sight. The intense atmosphere in the room was finally lifted. They all could breath easily now.
“Holy shit Allan, I did not know that you got it in you” Maria said while she was fixing up Allan's cut wound.
“I did not know I had it in me myself” Allan said, his eyes full of shock. He and the others did not, Kyle would have accepted to help them from what Kyle said and reacted earlier.
“You did good, Allan. But it’s not over yet, Kyle is not a miracle worker, there is still no certainty that we can do it. So we will all need to do our best too. That goes for all of you” Liam told the group. Allan clenched his fists, looked back at Liam and nodded his head knowingly.
“But we do have a chance, don’t we?” Luna asked.
“Even without him there will always be a chance, don’t you ever forget about that” Liam said, looking at all of their eyes. “But with Kyle's help, the odds are just better than all. This is not going to be easy, but there is a reason that many people fear Kyle, not just for his lethal skills. He is also known among his close ones as the most cunning and down right cold hearted schemer ever.”
Liam walked outside, he found Kyle standing waiting outside of the Inn, he was spacing out, his eyes were staring at the far distance and his posture did not change for some time.
“So are you really going to keep our promise ?” Liam asked.
“A promise is a promise and I never break my promises.” Kyle answered.
“That was a good strike from me right” Liam said with a more upper lifted voice.
“You just caught me off guard, that is” Kyle smirked back at Liam. But his eyes suddenly turned serious again and he said “But the next time you use her to manipulate me again, I won’t hold back, even if you are my friend”.
“Ok I’ll remember that. But for now, are we even?” Liam said while giving his hand out. Kyle shaked Liam’s hand and replied “Yeah, we’re even, for now”.

When everything had cooled down, Liam and Kyle headed back to the other three.
“Well, we really have been living under a rock lately if we did not even notice the fact that Rose was getting married huh.” Kyle said. “From what me and Liam just found out, the wedding is going to be held in 10 days, so once again, time is not in our side”
“Have you got any idea so far Kyle ?” Allan asked.
“I ain't no genie ok guys, I can’t grant your wish in a blink of an eye” Kyle replied “Like any other mission, however important it may be, we still need to gather more information before we could come up with a plan. Unlike the last mission where we were handed the information about the mission, this time we need to do all of the dirty work ?”
“So what do we need to know, what do you want us to find out ?” Allan asked.
“I don’t know either, we are in a different world with different customs. I have no idea what to expect and to be honest I can't even be sure if even after we get all the intel, I could really do something about it. I want to tell you guys this beforehand.” Kyle said “But I can promise you that I will do my best.” They all brainstormed and started sharing ideas on the top of their heads. And after the longest time
“So we have to tell the Blackburns no matter what, right?” Luna said.
“Yes, it would be the most reasonable thing” Kyle replied “But from what I just did to Richard, I don’t know if he would believe me enough to listen, especially if we don’t have any hard evidence.”
“It’s his daughter, do you really think that he is that cold hearted ?” Liam said.
“No, but there is another reason” Kyle said “ There may be a mole inside of the Blackburn guide.”
“You really think so? Allan and I heard that they were preparing weapons and that it was going to be a massacre. Do you really think that someone in Blackburn's own guide could be that cold blooded that they are ready to kill every single one of their friends and family ?” Luna asked.

“True, power and money can corrupt the purest man, that just a fact” Liam said “We can’t be sure that someone or even a group of people in the Blackburn guide was not in on this”
“So we are not telling them ?” Allan said. “I don’t know, I can’t decide, I think we need to gather more intel first” Kyle replied.
“I want to know where it’s going to be hosted, who is attending it, how powerful they are, and so on. Basically get me as much intel as possible.” Kyle said. They agreed and started to make their move, because there was no plan to be had as for now, Kyle knew that they needed more information and that Allan needed to do something right now to feel that he was doing something or else Allan might actually lose it.
Two days had passed, the team had been working nonstop, gathering every information they could get, Kyle and Liam even went as far as using some threatening tactics to get some information out of some let’s just say harder nuts to crack. They found out some important information. Firstly, the wedding was going to be held in the outskirts of the city, it was going to be a private wedding, only the Lion guide members, the Blackburn guide members and some of the city government members were invited to the wedding. Other intel just confirmed what Kyle and Liam suspected before, the Leon guide most likely had used power to manipulate and forced this city to be under its control in one way or the other. The Blackburn on the other hand were the largest food and good trading guide in this city, but recently, many of their cargo ships were ambushed and as a result the Blackburn guide had lost many of their resources and assets. Mercenaries did not want to work with the guide anymore or at least for a cheap price as they could see that their trips or missions were becoming more deadly than others.
“Do you think that this was the Lion guide’s plan all along? Attacking the Blackburn guide cargoes and leaving no survivors, then ‘generously’ offering them a hand in marriage to save them from their hardship right now?” Liam asked.
“That is a very good possibility, especially now we know that they are trying to make a ‘hostile takeover' ” Kyle replied.
“I think Richard should really know about this, he is Rose's father, of course he is not in on this, if we just show him what we know, at least he would be more prepared” Luna said.
“That part I leave to you guys to figure out, I don’t think my appearance there would do you guys any favour” Kyle said. With that the rest of the team headed to the Blackbrun’s residence once again.
However, their request to meet Richard was denied, the Blackburn really did not have anything to do with them anymore, especially after the blackmail. And no matter what they told, Richard did not allow them to step foot in his home and did not want to hear them out. So in the end plan A had failed, they went back with disappointment on their face.
“So our only choice is to take matters into our own hands,” Maria said. Time was running out for them, only 7 days before the disaster and they still did not have a clue of how to stop this wedding.
“Well now we have two choices, either we find a way to stop the wedding or at least stall it, or we will just do it by force, stopping the massacre during the wedding. I would prefer the first choice as I don’t fancy our chance of winning in a fight like this” Kyle replied.

I was a webnovel junkie for a long time, but I found it hard to find novels with solid characters, decent plot, philosophical underpinnings and a fully painted world to keep me going. I've taken from every genre I've liked to make a story that satisfies my own cravings for a good story. If you like the story or have suggestions please leave a comment or review. I hope this novel is fun, provocative but above all fun. Enjoy. Yours truly, James Paul Addington PS I will release at least two chapters a week, or one really long chapter. Concerning the tags: The story is primarily Fantasy with Wuxia influence in some elements. Romance won't happen for the first two arcs or so (roughly 40 chapters), I want to build the world before I do that. Tragedy is because of an event that occurs in the book, not the tone of the book. The book is more lighthearted. Slice of Life doesn't occur till the third arc (the romance happens during that arc as well). Magic will also show up more in later arcs, but appears throughout. Reincarnation it's not a reincarnation like in the traditional sense, but it has a similar concept.

The Egg Guardian
First and foremost, I must apologize as this story is currently on an indefinite hiatus. School, my main project, and writer's block have gotten in the way. I was rather unprepared when I began posting this and kind of just did it on a whim. Thus, I shall ensure I am thoroughly prepared before posting anything else, but I plan to return to this someday to conitnue it. What better retirement plan for a scumbag than to become a demon? Whether he likes it or not, that's Berrick's only choice. Heaven thinks hell is getting a little lukewarm and Berrick is just the guy to heat things up again. Follow Berrick as he works for home and hell as one of the few Egg Guardians. Author's note: Are you looking for bad writing, terrible dialogue, short chapters, and slow releases? Then you've come to the right place! This is honestly just something I'm writing for fun and figured I'd publish while I'm working on my main project, but I always appreciate constructive criticism so I can improve.
