《Cultivation Bug Fuyo》Chapter 2 - Food for the wolves

He opened his eyes, his vision was a bit hazy but after 5 or so minutes his eyes sharpened and he looked around. Stars and planets continued to whiz past him. He felt extremely exhausted from his 10,000 year slumber. It took him a while to recover his senses. Once he came to he gasped, the scene in front of him was just too shocking.
There was a giant wall in front of him, it was huge! In fact there was no end to it. He looked in one direction and then looked in the other, it was the same thing. It was like an endless wall that continued on forever. Up, down, left, right with no end in sight.
On the wall were various moving patterns and swirls. There were even stars and planets floating around. But they all looked like specs of dust compared to the great wall.
His soul started screaming as his body flew towards a star. He couldn't feel the heat but he knew he would die if he collided with it. But the funny thing is, he flew straight through it, not only that but as he flew past it he felt his soul heat up and grow stronger.
Even though the star was the size of a million earths, he passed through it in less than a second. It was unknown how fast he was moving, the speed he was travelling was simply incredible. He couldn't move his body very well, he could only adjust his trajectory by an inch or two.
His spirit continued to silently approach the giant wall.
He didn't know what this wall was but the great wall was actually a hollow earth. This wall was the outer shell of the Universe.
It was an infinitely large and endless world.
It was like something you'd read in a novel. Unbelievable!
Fuyo slowly came to an understanding about his situation. He didn't know how long he had been sleeping but he had a theory about the seed.
Elder Yama was always a mysterious person. He didn't speak much but when he did it was profound and meaningful. Elder Yama had lost his way but meeting Fuyo helped him regain his sanity and in return Fuyo learnt a lot from this Elder.
It slowly developed into a father and son relationship, although they had never referred to each other as such.
Fuyo never really knew his father, he wasn't there when he grew up. He never knew his mother either because she died fighting a pack of wolves. His mother buried him in a hole and then ran in another direction to lure the wolves away. She died that day but Fuyo survived thanks to her sacrifice. It was a traumatizing event and ever since then he has been afraid of wolves.
From that moment he trained his Dao of farming, strengthening his body and teaching himself the way of the sword. He didn't know much about swords, all he could do was cut using the powerful muscles he built. He had to fend for himself since a young age; he became a wandering orphan without a set home. He journeyed to different places before settling in Wsc City. He earned a small fortune through various mercenary jobs. It was enough to purchase a farm. He chose this city because it had lots of flat grounds and was perfect for farming. Not only that but it could also further his ambitions.

At the time the current City Lord was a very malicious and scheming man. He would kidnap young girls and rape them, after that he never let them go. He would toy with them endlessly until they died or commited suicide. When they died he would drink their blood. He drained the village through overwhelming taxes and held public executions for fun. He was a very cliché villain, a perfect target to further Fuyos ambitions.
The villagers hated him with every fiber of their being. But they were too weak minded to unite and fight back. The years of fear mongering had taken their toll.
At the time Fuyo was only a twelve year old boy, he was strong but not strong enough to take on an entire regiment of armed City guards. He thought it would take him another 10 years to establish his position, until he saved a random old man from getting killed.
His body was weak but his muscles were honed like a sharp sword. It was strange seeing a man with such perfect muscles being beaten like a dog. The scene reminded Fuyo of the wolves surrounding his mother and attacking her when he was young. In that instant he temporarily lost his sanity as flashes of the trauma resurfaced in his mind. Most people would cower and fall back but Fuyo did the opposite. He flew into a blind rage. In his insanity he turned into a blood thirsty demon.
He flew into the middle of the battle, his two swords whipped around like a tornado. They were caught off guard but still managed to heavily damage him. 16 lacerations and 13 light flesh wounds. That was the damage they inflicted before they lost their lives. Fuyo stood there, roaring at the sky as the blood dripped down his body. He fell to the ground with a thump passing into unconsciousness.
His fighting spirit had ignited a long dead flame inside the old man's heart. He pulled some herbs from his side bag and laid them over Fuyos wounds. They were incredibly expensive medicine, each one worth no less than a small mountain of gold coins. He exhausted his last 5 herbs that he had and in less than three days Fuyo was back to full strength. The only thing remaining in the old man's possession was an ebon-gray box.
Fuyo didn't remember the box at first. It wasn't until he had a lot of time to ponder the events that transpired, that he remembered. This little tidbit of information didn't seem like much but it helped him solve the puzzle. The ebon-gray box he was gifted was the same one from all those years ago.
At that time, Elder Yama was ready to roll over and die. He was a beaten dog, he didn't want to go on anymore. But seeing Fuyos fearsome fighting spirit inspired him. He was like a blunt blade, pure power filled with ferociousness. All he needed was someone to hone his abilities and guide him on the right track.
He remembered the fire he had when he first joined the military. He rose through the ranks and finally entered the Tengan Toppa Royal Guard under General Aizen Gurren.
But his father passed away suddenly and he was forced to take the throne and succeed as King. Time passed and he married, she bore him 6 sons, they were all famous warriors in life and in death. The war is what claimed their lives, but they died a proud warrior's death. They fell in battle; they would have wanted it that way. They were warriors through and through, tougher than nails.

The Alezhar Empire invaded with full force but not many people knew why. It was a bloody war that lasted 22 years. In the end, Lagann Kingdom was completely defeated.
The Lagann Kingdom had stronger warriors but the Alezhar Empire had a better strategist.
They spread superstition creating fear in the hearts of men. This made them easier to control. In the end the King was surrounded by his own garrison, the Tengen Toppa Royal Guards. The only one who remained loyal was General Aizen Gurren but he was nearing the end of his years. He was killed covering the retreat of King Yama.
King Yama took the ebon-gray box away from Lagann Kingdom and fled far, far away. He lost his will to live but he would never let Alezhar Empire achieve their goal. He wondered aimlessly for 2 years and finally when the last bit of his will had faded he decided to let fate take him.
That was when he met Fuyo. Fuyo was only twelve years of age at the time and had wiped out an entire gang of bandits. Although he could do the same feat without incurring a single wound this child was still an unpolished Tenshi blade.
He had potential.
So King Yama decided to live on. He took this as a meeting with destiny. He would pass on his skills to Fuyo and then return to the earth, where he could be reunited with his dead sons.
In three years Fuyo had completely honed his skills and mastered everything Yama could teach. He mastered the Tengan Toppa Royal Guard body strengthening technique, the sacred Gurren martial arts and finally the 36 severing's of the Lagann sword.
Fuyo was simply a genius!
Aizen Gurren was considered the fastest in recorded history and he took 12 years to master these sets of techniques. In contrast, it took King Yama 22 years. If General Gurren was a genius of a generation wouldn't that make Fuyo a genius of an era?
Of course Fuyo never knew about King Yamas past. He never talked about it and Fuyo never asked.
At the age of 16 Fuyo had reached the peak of human strength. He was 5 to 6 times faster than the average man. His stamina was like an endless ocean. His sword moved faster than the eye could see and he could behead five people in the time it takes for one breath. He was a well-honed sword, far surpassing General Gurren in his prime.
He was also very ambitious; he knew benefits came with a price.
He put on an act to inspire loyalty amongst the commoners that he lived with during these 3-4 years. He made himself known and acted very friendly. On his 16th birthday he put all his plans into action. This was the start of his journey for world domination.
He hired 300 mercenaries to disguise themselves as villagers and staged an uprising.
He stood in the center of the stage calling everyone to gather. Then he told everyone to rise up and take back what is yours. At first they ignored him and scoffed at him. He was going to get himself killed. But then one by one the 300 mercenaries appeared in the crowd churning the flames of war. "He killed my daughter and drank her blood. Your children could be next!" by saying some of these falsified lines he gave courage to the ones who really lost family members to the City Lord. With over 300 voices shouting out, more and more people grew courage and began to speak up.
Slowly a pack mentality was formed among the people. A lot of the people had deep seeded hatred for the current City Lord but lacked the willpower to take a definitive stand. All their stress, pain, hatred and suffering had built up over the years and finally erupted. They felt empowered with all the people gathering and expressing their hatred. Even residents that had no qualms with the City Lord joined in, the momentum was just that strong.
They started to march down the streets while chanting "Kill Lord Smeagol, vanquish the evil!" Soon there were over 100,000 people in the crowd.
With Fuyos current strength he could have easily fended off the Lords guards and seized Smeagols head. But without people behind him it would be an empty position. He needed them on his side to further his future goals. With a large crowd behind him singing his praises the City Guards would naturally switch allegiance.
He wanted to be the stallion that mounted the world, the great conqueror, the first emperor of all, the king of all kings and the ruler of all rulers.
Great talent is usually accompanied by strong ambition, Fuyo was no different. He wanted the strength to control his own destiny; he wouldn't let himself become food for the wolves.
The riot started and they marched towards the City Lords palace. The guards ran out and sliced three villagers cleanly in half. "What are you doing? This is the City Lords palace! How dare you cause a commotion!"
With a simple action panic erupted; the villagers came back to their senses and returned to their former cowardly selves. That's when a concerned villager spoke out
"What were we thinking? We can't go against the City Lord. He is too powerful!" This person got down on their knees and started to kowtow asking for forgiveness and mercy.
Of course the one kowtowing and pretending to be extremely afraid was a hired mercenary. This was when Fuyo made his move. He picked up the mercenary and patted him on the back.
"Don't be afraid my friend, I will give you the strength of a raging bull and you will easily stand your ground against these evil doers."
Fire burst from Fuyos hands as he drew a circle around this man. The crowd grew awestruck.
"It's Magic!"

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
