Back home - happy words, because you love going back home after a long time away, right? But what if you go back to your home and can't find it?
As Zeral walked, he looked at the ruins of the old town called Bartak, which was once a home to Zeral. He then entered a ruined, abandoned house and said, "Finally, I'm back home."
Then he put down his two swords and sat on the ground, looking to the ruined house. He began to cry and smile at the same time as he said, "He is hiding somewhere...Hey, Johnny? I'm here, come out, I brought your favorite candies." He looked towards the broken door cleaning his tears. "Come on, I'm waiting for you, my son." But there was no response...
Then he started screaming "COME ON!! COME TO YOUR FATHER!" Then exclaimed in frustration and hysteria, "DAMN IT, WHERE ARE YOU? WHO KILLED YOU? TELL ME!” He continued to cry and punch the ground with his bare hands...
Then he heard someone coming his way, so he grabbed his swords and said, "Who is there?" As he glanced towards the front opening to house, three monsters attacked him from behind.
One of the monsters spoke in a low chuckle, “Oh, it's a human. Hahaha, how lucky we are."
The second creature said, "He looks delicious, right?"
The third one replied, "Aye, but what is he doing here?"
The first to speak suggested, "Maybe he lost his way."
Zeral start laughing. "Hahaha, finally, some food, I'm so hungry.”
The second monster lamented, "I miss the humans’ food. When I was a human, I used to eat a lot of food, but now I only eat humans such as you."
Zeral looked to that monster and responded, "Mhm, same here. I miss my wife’s cooking, even if her soup was terrible - especially without salt.”
The first monster asked, "What do you mean, human?"
Zeral laughed, "Human? Am I? So you think you kill me as you did to rest of humans you killed?"
The first monster said pompously, "Of course, hahaha, we will eat you alive!"
The third monster added onto that by saying, "Hell yeah, you look so yummy."

Zeral huffed, "Okay, fine, come and take some. But what about you? Huh?"
The second monster yelled, "What? you think you can eat us? We are holy beings, and so thanks to our god Hirvan, we will annihilate all humans in the world."
The first monster jibed, “Yes, you think you can eat us? We are above your kind."
The third monster asked, "You fool, you think you can kill us? Do you know what happened in this ghost village?"
Zeral says with a smile "Nope, can you tell me what happened here? And I may eat you if I want, so tell me what happened, and I will spare your life."
The third monster repeated, " Are you crazy? You don't know what happened? And you think you will spare our life, huh?"
The three monsters looked to each other and started laughing at Zeral, then the second said, "Hahahaha, nice joke."
Then the first one joked, "He think he can kill us? A single human, defeat three holy beings?"
Then the third went on to explain, “We killed the surviving humans here, and this was the first town to succumb to our rule, but when we arrived this city it was already dead one as it now...The three of us died 10 years ago, along with rest of humans who lived near...But thanks to our god, we got a chance to be reborn as his best creations-”
Zeral interrupted by saying, "Huh? Best creation? Hahaha, sounds cool! I’d love to take the ‘best creations’ and put it in menu for dinner today."
One of the monsters had enough of Zeral and went straight to attack him, screaming, "I will kill you!" Zeral quickly dodged the monster in one swift move, then with his left sword, he sliced the monster’s head into two pieces, as the other two monsters watched...
The first one exclaimed in anger, "No way, he’s extraordinarily fast and just killed our brother!"
The second one said, "I can't believe it, let's kill him now."
The first one went to the left and second the right as quickly as they could, in order to attack Zeral at same time so he couldn't dodge the attack. But Zeral, with a smile on his face, blocked both attacks as they continued to try to hit him and kill him. The first creature jumped behind Zeral and tried to attack him from behind, but he failed as Zeral jumped over the second one and quickly slid between them both.

But both block it as well, and they continue attacking him as he moved backwards and blocked their attacks, but suddenly he fell down by a rock. The monsters saw their chance to jump on him, but Zeral waited for them to get above him so that he could quickly thrust the sword through the monster's throat that was coming in on his left side. While he was distracted, the other finally hit Zeral in his chest.
"Finally, I got you," he said, stabbing Zeral. While he looked at Zeral and where he hit him, the man start laughing and said hysterically, "That's right, kill me, hahaha - kill me please." It was clear that the monster was shocked that Zeral could still talk until he realized nothing had happened to him.
He shouted, "What the hell are you? What? No, that's impossible!"
Zeral took the blade out of his chest before he kicked the monster in the gut. When he got up, he said in a patronizing voice, "Mhm, nice try, but it won't work. You see, I can't die."
The monster was horrified by the fact that Zeral was an immortal creature: neither human nor monster. He repeated his question: "What the hell are you?"
Zeral announced, "I'm Zeral.” The creature yelled, "A Zeral? Don’t tell me you are the Zeralizion-” (the silver sabertooth) “-killer? I’ve heard about you, but I never thought you survived!"
Zeral responded, "I killed the Zeralizion like I did to your friend, and as I will do to anyone who dares to interrupt me."
The monster dropped his weapon and kneeled to Zeral. "This is impossible, a monster begging for your mercy...But would you please will you spare my life?"
Zeral laughed, "Hahaha, now why would I do that? Ah, wait, I just got an idea, tell me who the hell killed the family who lived here?"
The monster’s voice quivered, “I don't know, I lived here when I was human but I died outside the town. I don't recall anyone coming near this damned excuse for a house after I came back here, but why do you care? Were they your family?
Zeral said, "My family? I don't even remember if I had one. So you don't know who destroyed this house?" He raised his sword above the monster’s head.
The monster cried, "Yes, please don't kill me, I beg you; I never wanted to be like this, I had a family too, please...I lost them all, so I came here to seek revenge, just like you're doing now!"
Zeral asked, "Revenge? You think I'm here for revenge?” He let loose a menacing chuckle.
The monster said, "Listen, I swear I will be under your service and do whatever you want, just don't kill me, please!"
Zeral says "Mhm, what a pity, a monster crying for forgiveness."
The monster bent down to kiss Zeral’s feet, saying, "I swear, I will do whatever you want, just please spare me, I don't want to die...I lived the worst life as human, I was raised as an orphan in this town, I never had a real family but then I got one - a stepmother who loved me like a real son, and yet she died in the war while I was outside fishing with my step-father."
Zeral questioned, "So your step-father died too?"
The monster said as blood came from his eyes like tears, "Yes, he died protecting me, I never had a chance to say goodbye to him or my step-mom, I miss them both..."
Zeral said delicately, "I understand completely.” He opened his mouth wide in a terrifying grin. “So how about you join them?" He started laughing and killed the monster, stabbing him over and over before cutting off the monster’s head. "Just tell them I said hey - but you see, I'm very hungry." He started eating it, then he inserted his hands into the remains of the body to grab the monster’s heart. “Here are the candies that my son loves, so come on out Johnny!” He continued walking around the house, searching for his dead son...
The End.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
