《A Glimmer in the Dark》Prologue 3

"Life....."
Across the planet 8 other Words of Power were spoken. "Strength", "Valor", "Craft", "Harmony", "Wisdom", "Pride", "Change", "Flow". Each word seemingly spoken in turn, all bringing forth the touch of creation.
With all words spoken, the sparks of life from surrounding the progenitors soon grew and a multitude of motes of light were taking the element around them as materials and energy to shape a new existence.
Over fields, and plains, under the waves and above and under the ground, on peaks and mountain ranges, around rivers and lakes, creatures took shape and gained awareness, a primal will and the order of nature instilled in all of them.
The simple life of the planet had burst into rapid growth though only to the eyes of the progenitors. From where they stood light fadded to dark and then light again, passing as blurs in the sky. Over and over the scenery turned from vibrant shades of nature, to gentle green, then brown, red and orange, to a blanket of white and grey. All the while the 9 beings stood, or a better word, suspended in place at where they had released their voices. Eons passed as the whole world changed before them with the scene only broken by a familiar feeling, a sound.
The voice had returned and once again they were coverd in tears of light and brought back to the place they had met the holder of the voice.
All the figures turned to the center as they found themselves arranged in the previous manner. All nine of them had roughly the similar forms, lithe yet muscle, but then it differed.
From the first one that came from the cave, with one look at it and see a sense of balance. Now on to its right and onwards, the second was very similar, practically the same only with the distinction of having an almost soft light blue film exuded from its presence and a greyish tone to its skin, with the same golden hair but in a brighter contrast to the first and a sense of wisdom and curiosity could be felt from its brown eyes with flecks of green.

Next to it was a bit taller form, more robust around the chest and it had a long slender tail. Instead of skin it was covered in what seemed to be scales, very fine in the front and wider at the back. Its coloration ranged from brown, cream and green throught is body. It had a longer face, almost like a snout, with eyes that had double eyelides and a reptilain glare and a presence that felt both confident and a strong sense of pride but no hint of arrogance.
Beside it was almost monstrous in appereance with feathers round its angular face like that of a main, talons on its feet, a leather hide on its arms, a long tail like a cat's and fur over its body. It was quite colorful with each part having its own gradient, all the colors could be seen from animals but the combination of these gave a sense of unnatural existence. The eyes again mirrored the imbalance with what seemed to be keen eyes of a bird of prey on the right and the docile but powerful eyes of a large herbivor. The gaze of the being were that of one that commands and respects others, both a leader and a warrior.
The next one was a tad bit shorter, a whole head shorter than the last. It was more muscular than the other three and a bit stockier. It had long gray hair witch was set in a neat and impressive braid. Looking at it, one would feel that they were gazing upon a body earned through labor and toil. From the critical and calculanig look in its eyes came a suggestion that it also possessed some form of considerable skill.
The one that followed was almost twice the size of the last figure and about a head taller than the rest. It had a green tinge to its skin and was muscled like the last one which gave it a brutish appearance and gave of a sence of power and force though its gaze gave off a feel of control and prowess.

At half a head shorter that the brutish figure, the one next to it had a leaner shape that gave of both a feel of grace and agility. It had sharper features than the others, with a piercing gaze, pointed ears and raven colored hair.
What followed it was a smaller figure, much like the one before the brute, but this one was just as lean as the pointed-eared one and it to had a slight point in its ears. It was covered in a soft glow between yellow and white, small motes and whisps were exuded around it and the skin it had seemed more like that of fruit than of flesh. On its head were long strands more akin to small vines than hair.
The last person, the one to the cave figure's left was quite stricking in that it was like a reflection of the one to its right but had a smoother texture to its skin which was colored to a bright cerulean. It had small points at the end of its fingers which had webbing between it, the same as those it had between its toes. Its spine had long point that also had a webbing between the and at the end of it was a muscular tail could be seen extending from its lower back that reached all the way down to its feet with a foot more to spare. The thought of being at home in the water was clear from looking at it.
"Thank you for manifesting the power of creation." the voice said. But now it was not alone as "the voice" came from three identical figures and instead of the inital bright cloak of light, one of the speakers was gold, the next was silver, and the last obsidian.
It continued "I, We are the three facets to all the things. All of you are here as the starters to a race, progenitors, and also as their guides. You will lead them to survive, to grow, and to flourish"
The three cloaked figures locked gazes with each of the indivdiuals before continuing "Competition between one another may be as much a part of it as the struggle against the wilderness and savagery of this world. All this comes as plainly as the fact of life, for the goal of all life is to survive. For that one must grow and gain the strength to overcome the adversities that come and be ready for things that have yet to come."
After the three beings released those words, some of the flora and fauna noticeably became twisted. Many were just like the now common creatures but now having more violent and or more brutal forms. Unseen changes also came about with regards to the energy that flowed throughout the world.
Then the tears of light covered them, becoming brighter and brighter and eventually fading to total darkness.

Rise of the First Necromancer
Asrael Nessarat awakes on a sandy dune with a mouthful of sand and nothing but tattered rags in his posession. As the High Magus of the school of Necromancy, he once aspired to prove to the Emperor that magic still held a place in their society. But that day came, passed and inevitably accelerated his kind's downfall. Now; they are hunted, strung up and burned on pyres throughout the Empire by the Emperor's holy Inquisition- an efficient and ruthless army hell-bent on bleeding every last droplet of magic from the lands. With nothing but a mouthful of sand and tattered rags; Asrael is determined to seek the one thing his cold, still heart desires. Vengeance. This story can, at times, get very dark. It is not recommended for the faint of heart. This is not a story of an overtly powerful wizard who can pulverize his enemies from across the world, nor is it in any way, shape or form a joyous tale. We follow Asrael as he and his companions explore and seek to change an unjust world, where kindness and acceptance are exceptions, rather than the rule. If you are looking for a story to inspire hope or joy, this is not it. If you wish to read about likeable, heroic people, turn around. If you wish to see good battle evil, where the cut in between is clear, then this is not for you.
