《Round Two》Chapter 35 - Spirit World

Leo takes a sip from his coffee and lets out a breath of relief. “Ah!” He calls out, satisfied. This is the good life! Sitting, relaxing. No work, no duties! It feels good! He thinks with a smile.
**DING**
“Hmm?” Leo says, looking to his phone on the table.
Leo looks at the notification.
User, Barbara Salzar, has requested an increase of her allotted storage space and permission to access the manager directory. Approve request?
Leo lets out a chuckle and sends a text.
Did she receive permission from her manager?
Leo lets out a smile. Word got out that he was kind of a slimy dude at work, and people began requesting weird things; access to certain shared mailboxes, or directories, to ‘just have a look,’ and all sorts of other things. Leo’s company was connected and managed a variety of companies, so the things people would request could be all sorts of things. Normally, Leo wouldn’t touch any of this; I mean why risk your work and livelihood for these random requests? It wasn’t responsible and it certainly wasn’t legal in some cases. But the thing was… These requests have started providing Leo with a bunch of work points; I mean, he was sort of surprised at how much work points he was getting from these requests. Everyone sort of assumed that he would get burned eventually, so after the first few, these requests just kept on coming, practically flooding in. And the work points! There were so much!
Essentially, Leo couldn’t say no. So, while he could, he did what he had to.
Permission from her manager has not been received.
Leo rubs his chin.
Tell her that if she bakes muffins for the lunch room tomorrow, she can consider it done.
Leo sends the text and leans back. He takes another sip of coffee and lets out a breath.

Ah! Life’s good! Leo thinks with a smile.
…
…
“Hey, Su! How are you?” Leo says jovially.
“Ah, I’m good, I’m good. I just got back to the Eastern Empire. I’ve ah, quit my job. I’m just roaming the country. Seeing the people, hearing of stories. Just wandering. Just finding myself. And damn, man, let me just say. I don’t know what I was doing before. I mean, I was working, I was alive. But was I alive? Anyways, I’m out here now, feeling the earth with my fingers, tasting the sweet fruit of life. It’s out here man, it’s freaking out here, and I love it.” Su Sheng says before letting out a breath of relief.
Leo’s eyes widen. “Damn man, what’s gotten into you? I thought by now you would of ran to your government to expose all the drug smuggling?” Leo says, somewhat surprised.
Su Sheng lets out a laugh. “Man, I don’t even care about that. Fuck the government, and fuck the machine, man.” He says dismissively.
Leo’s eyes widen once again. “Damn man! What are you talking about!? Are you okay?” He asks, somewhat bewildered.
Su Sheng lets out another laugh. “Man, whatever. I’m just saying, man, that I don’t care for that sort of life anymore. Your girlfriend opened my eyes, man. Magic, man! Freaking magic! It’s everywhere! When I got back, I got good and drunk. I had it all prepared. All the information I learned, all recorded. I was going to hand off to the appropriate person, but on a whim, I decided to get drunk. I drank one, then I drank another, then another. I just kept drinking! All by myself, alone and lonesome at a bar. Eventually I didn’t know which way was up. Then, of course, I have to stumble home. But dude, as I was walking, there were no taxis! No freaking taxis anywhere! So I decide to call for one, but guess what? No signal! No freaking signal! So I start walking, just walking, mindin’ my own business, and stumblin’ home. I start walkin’ and I go through some alleys, then I walk past a garden, then, for some reason, I’m at a temple! I pass out and just lay down in front of the temple. A monk finds me, brings me inside; next thing I know, these guys start teaching me about magic! I mean, they didn’t say it was magic, but I recognize magic when I see it, and it was their own brand of magic! The dude said a spirit led me there and asked the monk to teach me. Can you believe that? It was freaking wild man. Freaking wild.” Su Sheng says, his story streaming out like a river.

Leo’s eyes widen yet again. “Holy shit man! That’s freaking wild! So you’re learning magic? Like what kind of magic?” He asks, very curious.
“I’m not really sure what to call it. Basically, they’ve kind of opened my third eye. I can see the spirit world now, and dude, it is beautiful. The spirit world is like, most of the existing world! It’s where all the beauty is! Anyways you should visit sometime. I’d love to show you my world, my little piece of heaven.” Su Sheng says with a smile.
Leo lets out a breath of wonder. “Holy shit, man. That’s so wild. Yeah, I’ll come over soon! I want some of whatever you’re smoking my dude.” He says with a loud laugh.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5

Sunchasers
As Arthur opens his eyes, he finds himself in an unknown place, smack-dab in the middle of nowhere, without anything to help him survive save for a set of pyjamas and little knowledge of outdoors survival. Follow his steps as he tries to figure out where he is, and what will become of him. Sunchasers is a Fantasy novel with a sprinkle of lightweight sort of LitRPG (i.e. without Classes or Stats). While the first ten or so chapters of Book I are about Arthur's lonesome survival, the rest of the story focuses more on exploration and the protagonist will come in contact with other people quite often. The novel is being written in British English and using the metrics system. (I do not own the Cover) Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy this journey! I have a Discord Server, Join Here!

During the great war, the magicless humans were nothing more than fodder, meat shields. Until one day, their powers awakened. After the war, with the ability to now wield, fire, water, earth, wind, or lightning, powerful magicians gathered to build a safe haven for humans, the Kaldora Empire. Before the humans had magic, other races prospered with it. But, within their midst, there were... oddities. People with an affinity for two elements. Each one leaving some sort of disaster in their wake. Each one, not quite fit for this world. A young boy's family, killed in an accident, only he and his sister survived the night. After that, they were split up, each taken in by a different relative. It has been eight years since the flames engulfed his home and most of his family. With his magic powers finally showing itself, he goes off to a magic academy to better learn about his newfound powers. But as he grows, something else does as well. The voice inside his head, the thing that influences his thoughts, the monster that he wish was gone, the devil inside his heart. This is a tale about connections. NOTE: The story will be slow for many of the chapters and the time will also match it, ex: goes by day by day. The time mostly will be used for introducing and adding to characters. It won't pick up until somewhere in the twenties but there will be action and events earlier on such as the missions. Just a fair warning. Order of Phantasmal Architects

Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
