《Emperor Of The North [Dropped]》Chapter 44: Wyvern Fight.

Another month passed, and our numbers rapidly grew. Currently, we have thirty-six people and fifty undead.
Compared to the first two weeks, this increase is perfect.
And with new hands to work, I managed to put some of my plans into work. I designed a gate system that uses pulleys.
With that, we sealed any entry to a place that scoops ten buildings, including the forge.
I also managed to tame two Mud walkers, not raise from the dead. After defeating them in a battle, I managed to gain control over them.
Sadly I also lost three skeletons in the process, but that's worth it because these beasts are more valuable than skeletons.
The dwarven city is surrounded by many different natural landscapes, from an enormous lake to a forest made out of giant edible mushrooms.
So, I decided to use these gifts of nature to my advantage. I asked everyone new about the profession they did before getting thrown into the fortress.
Five of them were fishermen, so I assigned one of the Mud walkers to protect them, and they will fish at the lake outside the city.
And I assigned another group to collect mushrooms with a Mud walker to protect them.
For the remaining workforce, I ordered them to fix or craft new equipment in their free time and protect the forge when they could.
But no one can work with an empty stomach, so let's talk about food.
Our diet is currently dependant on fish, mushrooms, plants growing on world trees roots, and a very nutritious juice coming out of world tree's roots.
I found about that juice when one of the Mud Walkers cut a piece from the world tree's roots and began sucking it, and I am glad that beast was hungry at that moment.
That juice is delicious.
Back to the forge, we managed to fix most of the place, and now it allows us to craft things, but we lack raw ores and fuel, so we are currently using this place for only making tools we need, like axes for cutting things, or weapons to protect ourselves.
But that's not all. We found barrels of Dwarven Ale on an empty building's basement.
So we feasted with it a bit. We drank until we couldn't drink anymore and ate three days' worth of food. Was it worth it? I don't know, but currently, everyone is relaxed, and I bought their loyalty with some alcohol and food.
But talking about loyalty, one man surprised me, Mel.
Training of our members is also going well. Mel is a good teacher and helps us a lot by teaching people who never properly used weapons how to fight.
I wasn't trusting him at first, but he proved me wrong by risking his life for us several times, and not only that, his training method is helping our forces a lot.
Everything is going peacefully and great. Too peaceful. I began getting bored, so I stacked supplies, jumped on the back of my undead Mud Walker, and began moving towards the castle where we suppose the First Dwarven king is sleeping.

"Voice, can I ask you something. Why did I learn ice magic first and not the fire or anything else."
"Your nature." Voice began talking. "User is more familiar with cold than he is with fire, nature, etc. That also means User will learn Crystal magic faster than most, which will break the limitation of spells." Well, that was too damn good for Voice.
So, spells are just short cutaways for using magic, and if I learn how it works, I can use it more creatively and possibly much effectively as well.
"It is dependant on the user's knowledge of magic and imagination." I am not even going to ask about examples for that magic knowledge, but I am happy that I learned something important. It is a rare thing for me.
My ice magic consumes little to no mana, and if I learn and break the limitations of spells, as Voice said, my combat capability will increase drastically.
"I hope nothing bad happens while I am gone. Our barricades might stop Mud Walkers to some degree, but a Hollow will turn it into dust." Old habits die hard, and here I am talking to myself once again.
I saw the castle's entrance. "Stop it." I pat the Mud Walkers back. "Now, I want you to go back to the camp. I doubt if you can move freely inside. So, go."
I dropped from the back of the creature, and it began running towards our small camp.
A screen appeared in front of me.
[Activate Tracking: Yes/No]
I clicked on yes, and I began feeling weird. I was never in this place, but now I know the exact route I should be taking. "Let's see what is waiting for me inside."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I walked through the hallways, and I only stopped to admire the architecture of this building, and when found a cool medallion on the ground and picked it on the way.
I am not even stopping at crossroads inside the castle as I already know which way to go. Everything is going too well, but I don't complain about it.
After some walk, I reached the tombs down of the castle and opened a gate to a massive round room.
The first thing I saw was a giant corpse sitting on a throne. The corpse was wearing the best-looking armor I have ever seen.
While I cannot deny that armor took my interest the most, there are also other things inside, shiny things, to be exact.
Small treasure hills are everywhere throughout the room. Even with my little economic knowledge about this world, I can say many can easily sacrifice their lives for a treasure this big.
A creature that looks like a dragon, but I feel something odd about it as well. I suppose it is a dragon alike creature and not a real dragon. What were they called? Wyvern.

I say this creature is five meters long, including its tail, and it has scales that I assume are at least strong as an armor of the Mud Walkers.
Here we go. I won't turn back. I need to get strong. "You the overgrown lizard! I am here to beat the living shit out of you, so be prepared to die!"
Wyvern accepted my challenge by opening his wings and slamming the ground with its body.
I am a bit impressed, but not impressed enough to be scared of it.
I prepared a flame spear and threw it towards the creature. Spear did a small amount of damage but hurt the Wyvern. It also angered it, and the Wyvern began screeching.
Thankfully stupid lizard closed its eyes while screeching, and I used this opportunity to get close to the Wyvern, then jumped on its back as it wasn't watching its surroundings.
From the blind spot I put myself at, I began hitting the creature's back with my weapon. I am hurting it. I know that because of Wyvern's groans, but can I kill it? That's the question.
Wyvern began flapping his wings to get to the air "Nothing good will come from this move." I grabbed a bulge behind the creature's back to not fall off from its back.
Wyvern began flying in circles inside the room, and when it decided it couldn't get me off just by flying in circles, it began directly flying towards one of the walls.
"You mad fucker." I jumped from the back of the Wyvern and dropped on a small hill of treasures that stopped my fall.
I am not injured but, it still hurt, and I managed to get up from the ground with ease after sliding down the hill of treasures.
But I can't say the same for the overgrown lizard. The creature hit the wall hard and badly damaged itself.
I dashed towards the creature and slammed my weapons hammer toward its head.
But the Wyvern got to itself and threw me away with a hit from his tail.
The power of the blow threw me to another side of the room. "This thing still has some strength, but not enough for me."
I raised my weapon with confidence. "I will beat you right here, right now!"
Wyvern screeched and began charging towards me.
So, I prepared my weapon and began charging towards the Wyvern too, and when the gap between us closed enough for me to strike, I swung Tumultuari towards Wyvern's head with all my strength.
As the mithril hammer hit Wyverns head, the strength behind the blow slammed Wyvern to the ground. I used that to my advantage to strike towards Wyvern's head once again.
The creature tried to get up, but every time it tried that, I landed another blow and stopped him again.
But it is not enough. "Time to end this." I focused on my strike and dealt a more powerful blow. The creature screeched with its remaining strength and completely collapsed this time.
I pressed the creature's head to the ground with my feet, but Wyvern tried to get up one more time, but before I even managed to hit it, the creature's wings surrendered and let it fall.
Losing all its hope, Wyvern closed its eyes and accepted its death. It doesn't have any strength left to fight. Its vitality bar says the same as well. Only a tiny tick is remaining.
I grabbed a sword from the treasury. "Sorry, but rules of the world. One dies, one lives. I have little to do against that." As I placed the sword on top of the creature's head, I felt a wetness on my leg.
The Wyvern is crying. "You are going to make everything harder. Won't you." I tried to press the sword towards the creature's head to kill it, but something was keeping me away from doing that.
I tried to push it once more, but no. "Enough!" I shouted and threw the sword away.
"I am too tired for this." I let my body collapse next to the Wyvern, who accepted its death and was waiting for me to deal the final blow.
Now, thinking. I busted into its lair and attacked it first. Didn't I? I sighed. "I hope I won't regret this." I pulled out the canteen that I carry the root juice.
"Here, drink some of these." I opened Wyverns mouth and poured the root juice.
Wyverns vitality bar began slowly increasing. "Here you go." I pat the creature's head. "It is kind of weird that I was trying to kill you seconds before."
"But unlike all the creatures and people I fought before, you weren't even a threat to me, only something on my way, and I managed to pull you away from my way. But then why I wanted more, wasn't putting you into near-death state was enough for my quest."
Wyvern opened its eyes and looked at me for some time. I looked deep inside the Wyvern's eyes. There wasn't any sign of hatred or anger. It was the eyes of someone who got hurt.
"You were only trying to protect yourself." I pat the Wyverns head. "Sorry for hurting you." Respect all the creatures, as my grandfather said.
"Especially the ones who only try to protect themselves."
A screen appeared in front of me.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
