《This world is strange》Chapter 85. The ancient city

In the morning they preapered for the advanture.
After packing their stuff into their bags they went to the only way leading down. It went to the base, where the first few houses were found.
The archaeologists found the ruby in one of them, while searching through the places. Also there was a road leading to the tower in the middle.
Joseph and Catherine had to go down and make a circle around the city. Meanwhile they had to get into three different houses and get the artifacts to open up the tower.
As they were walking down they saw more and more from the city and the tower. The houses were made with bricks and tiles, which supprised both of them.
Cathrine was supprised, because it wasn't that common to build houses like this, because it was expensive.
Joseph was supprised, because he have not seen houses, that looked like modern houses, in this world so far.
But the most supprising was the tower in the middle. It was made from metal and looked more like a space rocket, than an actual building, though it did not have thrusters and was a lot more wide than the usuall rockets.
"Cathrine do you have any idea what is that tower?"
"No... I have never seen anything like this before. To be fair. I have never seen this much iron in one place before either."
As they looked aroun the streets of the city they saw multiple robots, that looked just like the ones in the cellar of the manor. They were patrolling around the city without problem.
Though there were streets that had rocks collapsed on them and some of them even had robots stickig out of them, the whole place was very stable and it looked like something protected it from any outside damage.

After around 10 minutes of walking, they reached the bottom and looked around.
The nearby houses were in good condition. They had spaces between them, where people could freely move from one street to an other.
As they looked around they saw a wall behind them, which was in the dirt, like it was built into it. It seemed like the thing that protected the city did not protect the walls.
After they took a good look, they started to walk forward. They've passed a few houses, before turning left. It was the most efficient and safe road they could take for the journey.
Also they got the information, that if the robots would attack them, they just need to get into one house. Apparently they won't go into houses.
That was the reason the archeologists could move around. The problem was that, they could sense them from far away and it was too risky to go further on. So they called for advanturers.
"I'm curious who were these five mages and how did they make this much advancement in differents stuff, other than magic."
Catherine shrugged.
"Nobody knows who they were and where did they came from. Some people actually said that they came from a different world or something."
Joseph raised his eyebrow.
"I didn't think you knew about them."
"Everyone who learns about magic will run into them in one way or an other. Also in school they teach you about them in history classes."
"I see. So you went to school? Where?"
"It was in Krishmar. There is a one for the rich people to learn, or send their kid there to learn. But I haven't been there for more than a century. So I don't really know if it is still around."

"I see."
'So she was living in Krishmar earlier her life. It seems like she doesn't want to speak about it, so I won't ask more.'
After walking between houses, which almost looked the same, except for a few differences in doors and windows, they reached the next street.
They quietly looked around and saw nothing on this street.
They did not wanted to use magic, because the robots can sense them. Joseph even deconnected from his core. It made him impossible to cast spells, but also made his aura, which the robots sensed, weaker. He was almost invisible for those detectors this way.
Catherine got a cloack on, that hid the mana getting out from her body. So her aura seemed a lot less. It was almost as small as Joseph's.
They ran across the street and went into the alleway on the other side. There weren't any signs for anything noticing them, so they didn't stop.
After they crossed two more streets this way, they have found one street that was patrolled by one of the robots. They hid in the alley until it walked back and forth. After a few turns, they timed their start and ran across.
After arriving they looked back. It didn't notice them.
"Just one more street and we get to the house we need to get in."
Catherine went forward with confidence.

Let's let the idiots go all out and settle this endless war there?†And because of that unprecedented notion, the Gods, Demons, Beast Race and Man worked together to create the (planet) world Arthunium, a magical world that could withstand the full brunt of the war. A thousand years after the Golden Age War, our story begins… (Warning: This novel offers depictions of: – Gore – Torture – Mature and Suggestive Themes The novel is therefore classified by most standards of morality as something no one should read.
