《This world is strange》Chapter 107. Mistified

The weather was cold and the fog covered their surrounding in the morning. They were packing up their stuff on the horses when they heard a strange whistle-like noise.
They looked around when Arborus walked up to Catherine and whispered something in her ears. They walked closer to Joseph she leaned closer to him and whispered.
"He says it's not natural fog and I also got traces of mana in it, so there might be something dangerous out there."
"I see. We should be as fast as we can if that is the case. I hope there are no demons around here."
"I hope the same. If it's a demon that made the fog, they might be natural predators in this kind of area, which is dangerous."
"I see."
Catherine and Arborus walked back to their horses. Meanwhile, Joseph packed up the last bag on his horse, then turned around and didn't see the two others. He took a few steps before speaking.
"Guys? Are you two here?"
There was no answer, just the deafening silence.
'I don't like this.'
As he tried to back to the horse, it was gone as well.
'What is happening?'
He drew out his sword and wand, then heard the Charles in his head.
'Be prepared! Something is moving in the mist!'
'Where exactly?'
'Unfortunately, I can't tell you.'
Joseph closed his eyes and concentrated. He didn't feel anything around him, but he knew that he can trust in the sword.
'I've never used any sensing magic, but my skill should help with it.'
For a moment he felt something further away from him, but just as he felt the sensation, it disappeared.
After a few seconds, he felt like something was coming towards him, so he stepped sideways.

In the silence hissing of an arrow flying by him felt like a car driving by with high speed.
'This feels strangely familiar. Is this the same person from before? But what are they doing and why are they targeting me?'
He was concentrating and dodging arrow after arrow for a minute when he heard a laugh from a deep voice.
"Hahaha! You've improved quite a lot after the last time. But it doesn't matter!"
He felt an arrow coming from the front, but as he was trying to dodge it, the sword moved his hand and hit another arrow coming from his right side.
'What are you doing? That one was an illusion!'
'How?'
He heard the guy speaking again.
"You even saw through that one? I can't believe it!"
Joseph shot a magic arrow in the direction he heard the voice coming from. The guy laughed again mockingly.
"Where are you shooting? I'm on the other side!"
Joseph was standing still until another arrow came from his left. He jumped towards it and passed through the illusion.
After a few more shots the arrows stopped and he felt someone moving around once again.
'Was he staying in one place?'
He turned around and shot a magic arrow into the fog once again. He heard a low thumping noise, but it seemed like he more likely hit a tree than his opponent.
A sword came from behind him and went for the back of his neck, only to be stopped by a shimmering blue light.
They both stopped for a moment from the surprise.
The guy didn't think his attack would be stopped, but Joseph was shocked by something else. He saw a window with an unbelievable message.
[Alert!
Damage deflected. The attack made a lot of magical energy stored in the medallion dissipate. 1274 points lost from the medallion's defense power, 3130 left.]

'What was that?!'
As the guy was jumping back Joseph shot three magical arrows into his body, but they didn't even leave a scratch on his cloak.
'He has magical resistance? What is this guy?'
He tried to sense him and charge his wand at the same time. After a few seconds, it was successful and the guy didn't attack in that time either, but he felt like he was still in danger, so he held his wand in front of his chest and readied his sword for an attack at the same time.
'This will be annoying.'

# The Gemstone of Ominium 2 - Pain
Her unfazed expression didn’t even waver when the blade of her thin sword pierced one of the men all the way through armor, flesh and bone, a gurgling sound bubbling from his throat. With a kick she mercilessly pushed him back, freeing her blade, and glanced down at his dead body sprawled at her feet, confirming that death had indeed taken him. Stepping over the dead man’s body as if it were a mere pebble on her path, she raised her head just in time to see her second attacker lunge at her and, nimbly turning on her heels, she slit his throat. A spray of hot, sticky blood hit her left cheek and slid down her neck, but she didn’t even blink. The scent of the fresh blood filled her nostrils and her brain like an inebriating drug and she stepped forward once again, lightly turning to one side to avoid being decapitated and quickly returning the favor. One by one the men kept falling as she advanced, victims of her lethal, almost mechanical movements, as if she’d been born with a sword in hand and ready to kill …* This is a direct continuation of Book 1 - Denial. You CANNOT start reading Book 2 without reading Book 1, since the story won't make any sense! Enjoy ^_^*

Re-Ordaining of the Chosen
Alea cheerfully hummed as she descended the steps, brimming in upbeat while her colleague, Quarren Leos, shot her a look of skepticism. “So… were you right about him?” he asked doubtfully. She came to a stop for a moment, her humming falling silent before she shook her head, waving her medium length light-blonde hair from side to side. “I was wrong about him.” Quarren raised an eyebrow in confusion at the convoluted response.“But you seem quite happy?” he asked again. “Because I am. But I was wrong about him. He was… so much more than I ever expected.” Alea looked at the sky overhead with a smile. “That boy… no, that man, is amazing. I firmly believe he will come to stand on top of any adversary he faces. He is destined. He is Chosen.” Quarren snorted as he stepped past, shaking his head. “Okay. Each to their own beliefs but you’re sounding like a nutjob. That skinny twig? Everyone calls him a cripple, you know,” he shook his head.“Rumours are always false, Leos,” Alea answered with a disapproving shake of her head. “You wouldn’t know. He is so, so much more.” “I saw him with my own two eyes. I didn’t see anything redeeming,” Quarren rebutted. “Well…” Alea chuckled. “You haven’t seen what I’ve seen.” In the year 917 of the Imperial Calendar, the Great War had just ended between dozens of nations. All were ecstatic when the current generation of the two Archduchy's, after the war, agreed to let their children wed. The excitement was short-lived however when the Aerianne Princess proved to be a dragoness among men but the Kanarian Prince was worse than even mediocre. The Prince disappeared and the wedding was shortly forgotten as society lived on. Until one day the Young Heir of Kanaria returned to Farrien a changed man, bringing demise with him. Fire and Shadows. Legend of the breaker. (Hiatus until ??)
Traditions lost, books burned, ancient knowledge forever spurned. It began with fire, the great Sirionean, all dominating desert creating pyre. And it ended thusly just aswell, t'was the great Empire's deathknell. The crackling of the burning books, dangling corpses on rusty hooks. The yellow streets of Heabury proper, colored red with human copper. -? S.V, Scholar of Dawn.' -- Author note: Hi, SeV here. I'm not a fan of writing my entire story premise in the synopsis. For that, read the prologue and chapter 1. Suffice it to say that I think it's a cool idea and I already have a few things planned and a world sort of formed in my mind. I like Epic fantasy, lightnovels with OP MCs, Litrpg, sci-fi, any many other things. This story is written for myself, so it may include all sorts of diffent elements and character interactions and even experimental things that I'm trying out as a writer in order to improve. My intention with this is to pretty much post as I write, and acquire feedback from you folks in the process. I of course hope you like my story, but feel free to criticize anything since this is a project to improve myself. Even if it isn't strictly criticism, any feedback positive or negative is welcome since I am interested in what other people think of my writing style and what I can improve on. Since it's growing generically I'll be interested in your thoughts and speculations on future events and any suggestions moving forward will be taken into consideration. Hope you enjoy my stuff. - SeV
