《Shadow’s World》64. Training part 2.

I look around and saw that the dragons were depressed. It seems like we passed their test way faster than expected. I look at the shadow and ask, “So, are we done for today? We train with the dragons and we have finished their training for years to come or close to it.” The dragon's roar. “Missy you have only begun to learn about the power of fairies. Do not get ahead of yourself. We only need a week to figure out a new training method for your monsters. What you learn was suppose to take at least 5 years but it is ok. We can adapt to this situation. Do not worry the next time you come before us, we are going to destroy your pride and you will understand the greatness of a dragon.” The white dragon yells.
The shadow starts to clap his hands, and says, “ok everyone lets all calm down. We are a bit ahead of schedule this whole week was supposed to be dragon week but it seems like we got things done faster than expected. So now we are going to do strength training. Herc you are up.” “Yes, it is mine time to shine.” Hercules walks up to me and nods his head. He asks, “What have rex taught you?” “She only gave me the basic and was building on my foundation.” “Do you know how to control your muscles?” “No, she never taught me that only how to control my breathing.” Hercules walks away from me and to my little brother. He grabs my little brother wrist and shakes his head in disappointment. He lets him go and says, “Well this one needs a lot of work. Shadow can you take us to one of my training areas that are free of all people?” The shadow snaps his fingers and everyone was transported to a new location.

We were transported to a place with a lot of exercising equipment. There was a track that was about a mile long. All of the equipment was in the middle surrounded by the track. It looks like the place that I train with rex and Isis. Yet this place was more worn down. The equipment looks like it has been used to death. There were footprints in the ground as showing that people were running on the track. Hercules looks at the shadow and says, “Why did you bring us here? This is my private training area. I know there are plenty of places we can train beside here.” The shadow looks at Hercules and replies, “This is the best place to train. You have trained here for millions of years. Use this environment to train the kids and stop whining.” Hercules walks away from everyone. He moves toward one of his equipment and flips a switch. “So kids come here I need to test you guys strength. Run one lap around the track as fast as you can and also find some weights and we will see your strength.” Yay running. This is something I can do. Today have been really boring all of this talking now time for some action. My brother and I walk to the starting line. I look up to the shadow and points to a footprint in the track. The shadow snaps his fingers and even out the entire track. Now, the table was set my brother and I got into a running position. The shadow holds up a flag and says, “3, 2, 1, go.” I took off like a bat out of hell. It took only 2 mins for me to cross the finish line. My personal best, I turn around and look for my brother and he wasn’t even halfway done. It took him a minute to finish. Hercules then picks up some weights. “You two lift these weights up, I want to see your strength.”

I start picking up different weight to test my strength. I lift up 100 pounds and it seems very easy. I put it down and pick up the 600 pounds weight. It only took one hand but I could only lift it once. Hercules looks at me and says, “I can estimate how much you can carry now by lifting those two weights go over there and wait a moment.” My little brother picks up 200 pounds and had a lot of trouble just picking it up. Hercules nods his head. “You two come over here and stand under this machine.” I look at Hercules and ask, “What is the point of this machine?” Hercules moves to a control panel and starts pushing buttons. He looks up and says, “This is to test your true strength.” I ask. “Then what was the point of testing our strength in the first place?” “Beings, for the most part, do not use 100% of their strength because their bodies stop them. This helps me understand what percent people use their strength. So, can you please step inside of the machine.” I roll my eyes and step inside fo the machine. A blue light scans me up and down. “thank you next.” I move away and watch my little brother step inside of the machine and watch the blue light scan him up and down as well.
“looking at the results they are mind-blowing. I now know how the dragons feel looking at you two monsters. Wendelin, you are at 90%. Compare to Wilfred who is at 70%. The avg for something normal is around 50% and for a trained athlete, it is 75%. But standing before me is someone who doesn’t really train and someone who had minimal about of training. Wendelin, rex must have seen your potential and decide that you didn’t need much training and wait for me to teach you. Well, this is a good thing I never had such strong students. Shadow can you please clear out this equipment and let me start training these kids right now.”

Fallen
He hadn't even gained a consciousness yet that he was bound to lose everything if he ever came to life. He hadn't offended anyone, but they offended him. He hadn't cursed anyone, they cursed him. He hadn't killed anyone, they killed everyone related to him. Thus, he silently vowed. "They plan to offend me for their own interest? I shall give them plenty of reason to do so. Do they want to curse me? Please do so, since I'm more than willing to be your living bane. Kill me? Sadly, you won't be the last having this type of wishful thinking."- The Devil -------------------- I think that I can manage 1 chapter per week now, maybe 2 but certainly not three. PS: As I think that there should be small mistakes here left and right, I'd gladly welcome a proofreader.

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021. Warnings: Second person is used in this work. Semi-Polished draft: Posted chapters are subject to revision as needed as things progress. Mild Profanity on occasion.
