Jelly who watched the alliance formed between Stake and Altos smiled. He looked at JJ and Jack who were sword fighting with each other to reward Jill with more sword techniques.
"Guys, I found a mid rank 4 mountain walker. We should kill it and reach peak rank 3 now that Jill has completed the herb mission."
"I don't know what a mountain walker is but it sounds weak enough to kill." Said Jack while swinging his sword.
"Does this mountain walker have any babies or families that will try to avenge it?" JJ asked while blocking Jack's attack.
"I don't know, but the worst-case scenario is we die." Jelly answered.
"Yeah, ok then." Jack stopped fighting and said.
"Hmmm, I don't know about this," JJ said while thinking.
"Come on JJ, don't be a wuss." Said Jack.
"I'm not being a wuss, I'm being smart about this." Said JJ.
"Let's have a democratic vote." Said Jelly.
"No, let's do rock, paper, scissors instead." Said JJ.
"Right then, let's do it." Said Jack.
They did a rock paper scissors and Jack won. In the end, JJ could only give into their demand. Outside their mind, Jill was currently building a city with Tesra.
"What should I build next Tesra?"
"A giant blacksmith," Tesra said.
Jill was about to build a giant blacksmith but she froze. Tesra saw that Jill's mana had stopped flowing and looked at her.
"Are you ok Jill?" She asked worriedly.
The white talon on Jill's shoulder who was name Fluff also chirped worriedly. The two saw Jill's body slowly started to change. Her hair grew shorter. Her feminine side started disappearing and a masculine side started to appear. Soon Jill turned into a cute 10-year old boy with silver eyes and silver hair.
The boy changed his dress into normal clothes with a cloak and a pointy hat. In his cloak, he pulled out a stick. The boy looked down at the city and started using mana while holding Fluff and Tesra in their place.
The mana went into the ground and soon a giant of 100 meters tall rose from the ground. The giant was made of steel and humanoid in appearance while fully grey. It walked towards the city while two more of its kind popped out and walked towards the city.
The three steel giants reached the city wall and knelt towards the boy. The boy then sent a transmission to every living being in the city.

"I am leaving this place now, these three giants are all mid-rank 4 and will protect you for as long as they and mana exist."
The boy then flew towards the west with Tesra and Fluff. Inside the boy's head was Jill. Memories started flowing into Jill's head and many things started to clear up for her which she accepted.
Jill had always wondered about her origin and how a small girl like her could survive in such mountains. The answer was shocking but she accepted it happily. The chance to live a life in itself was a blessing so she didn't mind that they made her. As long as her other selves existed, she too would keep existing.
There were many things she wanted to ask the three of them or just him and the answers kept flowing in. One big question she had was about her parents and the answer was that it might make her sad if she knew. In the end, she choose to take the answer and she became sad. It wasn't a good life, but it wasn't the worse.
Tesra tried to speak to the boy but she couldn't. After a few moments, they reach a wide land of forest with a mountain. The boy pointed his pointer finger at the mountain and shot a beam of water so fast it pierced through the mountain. Maybe the mountain had never done anything wrong in its life. It probably had only been doing good thing but the boy didn't seem to care about that.
From the mountain, a blue light shot out and flew towards the boy. The boy grabbed the blue light and ate it. Nothing seemed to happen after he ate it besides the fact that he looked more mystical.
The boy then flew up towards the sky at fast speed with Tesra and Fluff. Soon after a while, they reached above the world atmosphere. Looking down on the world the boy saw that it was a planet. Tesra didn't know much about science so she wondered how the world was round.
Looking down at the continent where she came from, Tesra admired it until she remembered that Jill was gone. She looked at the boy and tried to speak but the boy spoke first.
"I am a part of Jill, and Jill is a part of me. Do not worry, she is currently fine and is only resting for a while. Jill asked me to give you an option. I can give you the power to become peak rank 4 and you can go back to the continent of where you live or you can keep traveling with Jill. Now then, choose."

Tesra became shocked at what the boy said but calmed down. She looked at the world below and thought about how she wanted to see more of it. She then looked back at the boy with her blue eyes.
"I wish to keep traveling with Jill."
The boy sighed at her answer. "Your personality seems dull. It seems something has caused you pain to make you like that. Perhaps it's the death of your father. If it were not for your talent in magic, I would have made you go home long ago. But it seems Jill has grown fond of you. Unfortunately for you, the places I'm traveling are dangerous places. Places you won't last long in. Tell me, do you still dare to take my hand."
Tesra filled her eyes with determination. "I'm sorry for being dull but I still want to travel with Jill."
She stretched out her hand and grabbed his.
"Hmmm, seems like you have some determination, alright then. Now, which places do you think we should explore first?"
Tesra looked at the continents on the planet. She used her farsight which gave her a little boost in vision and she saw a place on the planet where there were many islands. Pointing her fingers at the islands, she spoke.
"I would like to go to those islands."
"Those islands do seem interesting. I wonder if there are bloodthirsty pirates there. Alright then, let's go."
The boy flew towards the islands along with her. After flying for a while they reached the island. They landed on the beach of a tropical island. Tesra looked at the beautiful beach and the tropical forest around her.
The waves on the sea rolled in onto the beach. The sun in the blue sky shined down with heat. The warm sand felt soft to walk on. The sound of the waves was music to Tesra ears and she walked around the beach. The boy walked with her.
"I've always wanted to build a sandcastle at the beach as a kid. Well, not always but I did want to build a sandcastle."
Tesra looked at him and became curious.
"How old are you?"
"I'd say around 40."
Tesra became surprised nods. Fluff flew off the boy's shoulder towards her and landed on her hand. It chirped at her and looked at the boy who was walking to the shade of a palm tree. The boy sat down and started using his hand to make a sandcastle.
"What's your name since I never got it?"
The boy looked at her. "My name is Jack JJ Jelly. I already know your name so you don't need to tell me."
Tesra nods at his answer. "What should I call you?"
The boy's eyes widen and he grabbed his head with his small hands. He seemed confused and fearful. After a moment he started patting his head. He became calm and serene. Tesra looked at him in confusion
"I go by many names, my name Jack JJ Jelly is my true name. Each part of it is a part of myself. Saying all of it can indeed be a mouthful. Tell you what, why don't you give me a nickname. One more to the pile won't matter."
Tesra looked at the boy whose eyes stared at hers calmly. The shade of the palm tree made him look wise. After a moment she gave him a name.
"Why don't I call you white shade."
The boy cough and started laughing. Tesra wondered if the name she gave was too funny. After a while, the boy stopped laughing.
"The nickname sounds too edgy and shady so no thanks."
Tesra became a little disappointed that he didn't like the name.
"Come on, you can think of another name."
He encouraged her and she nods. She thought for a moment and spoke.
"What about Three J?"
The boy sighed and shook his head. "It fits but I don't like it too much."
Tesra thought for another while and then spoke.
"What about Jay?"
"I do like the name since it has a J in it, even though I'm getting tired of my names having J's. Oh well, it doesn't matter. I shall take your nickname Jay."
Tesra nods with happiness and the boy went back to playing with his sandcastle. Looking at the waves coming onto the beach, Tesra decided to walk towards it.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
