《Multi Me Myself And I》Ch. 44 Curing Depression

Reese was currently flying towards the rebel leader with Claire. Claire stayed calm using her emotional repressor. Emotional repressor was a nifty ability that nanotechnology gave, with it, Claire could stay calm in most situations.
The ship soon landed on a planet and the two walked out of the ship. They were in a bustling city with skyscrapers filled with trees and a waterfall. Everyone around the two seemed happy. But Claire and Reese knew they were only acting happy to stay happy.
The two walked for a while and reached a cafe. It didn't look futuristic at all. Walking into the cafe they sat down. Someone with a waifu pillow was sleeping in the cafe, everyone didn't mind though, they wouldn't even mind if someone was sleeping in the cafe naked. The reason for this is because humanity's ancestors thought it was a good idea to remove prejudice against different people.
Sitting in the cafe, they ordered some sweets. They had to wait ten minutes. Why wait ten minutes? Shouldn't technology create the food snippety snap? Yes, but one should know that society and humanity as a whole are currently depressed. The chance to experience hardship was always welcomed since it helped people feel alive. Waiting ten minutes for food was a hardship that would make the two feel alive for a while.
After ten minutes, the food came. The two started eating for a while and then a clown came into the restaurant. The clown walked to the two of them and sat down. The clown had a big blue hat, a white face, baggy pants, a tiny shirt, and giant shoes. The clown smiled at them weirdly, its eyes stared at the two of them both ways.
“Shall we talk rebel leader?”
“Pfffffffft,” Claire spat out the coffee she was drinking.
She stared incredulously at the clown in front of her. The clown looked at her and kept smiling. Reese stared at Claire.
“I'm joking he’s not the rebel leader.”
Claire looked at Reese with a tick mark and became calm again.
“He’s the true mastermind behind the rebel army.”
“Pfffffft,” Claire spat out the coffee again and looked at Reese and then the clown.
Using her nanomachines, she detected Reese's facial expression, heartbeats, blood flow, and detected that Reese wasn't lying.
"Why is he dressed like a clown?"

"He wants to bring happiness to humanity through jokes, pranks, and funtimes."
"Does he talk?"
"No he doesn't like to talk, people always laugh at his voice."
Claire looked at the clown suspiciously. "Then what's his name?"
"His name is Bettina."
Claire became surprised. "That sounds like a girl name."
"It is a girl name."
Claire arched an eyebrow. "Why is it a girl name."
"Cause this clown used to be a woman who liked hoeing around in order to bring happiness to others."
Claire became speechless and looked at the clown who kept smiling. "That’s the weirdest backstory I've heard throughout my life."
Reese and the clown spoke at the same time. "Wow, you believed it."
Claire became surprised, she became very flustered. Being flustered made her happy since it helped her feel alive but she didn't like the feel of it. Deciding that she was tired of being played around with, she released her intelligence repressor.
Humanity in this time and age are extremely intelligent. This may seem good but there was a downside to it. Being too smart meant it was hard to act dumb. One of the main cause of humanity's depression was being too smart. To fix this problem, the intelligence repressor was invented.
Once the intelligence repressor was deactivated, one would get their original intelligence back. What's so special about humanity's current intelligence one might ask. In this current time and age, the average human intelligence gives many superhuman abilities to humans.
It allowed the average person to see the speed of time at the nanosecond. This was possible because of genetic manipulation and evolution, the human neuron had evolved to be extremely powerful. It became so powerful that it deemed emotion as useless and instead deemed it as an obstacle to survival.
Thousands of years ago the human brain started to remove humanity's emotions slowly. People didn't realize it at first since it was a slow process, but when the suicide rate started soaring, everyone started realizing their emotions were being removed.
People at first thought it was a corporate or government scheme and an all-out war started. The war didn't last long as F.C was thrown out by the citizens everywhere. The government and corporate gave in. The country searched the root of the problem and found out it was the brains doing.

Fearing that the loss of emotions would lead them to annihilate themselves, humanity started thinking of solutions. Their solution was to devolve humanity, they couldn't bring emotions back into the body since the brain would simply suppress it to the point where they simply felt dead and that existence was meaningless.
Humanity also thought of the solution to devolve their brain, however; intelligence was what made the human dominant in the first place. To devolve the brain was like biting the hand that fed you. That didn't stop people from devolving it though, many people devolved their brains and gained their emotions back.
Unfortunately, their devolved brain couldn't support their superhuman body and they were put on life support. They had to switch their body to that of an inferior version. This may not seem bad but imagine living as a human among humans only to switch your body with a pig. Knowing you were once human and now just a pig, how would you feel? It was like living as a god only to become a mortal.
Humanity did not want to give up its superhuman body, its superintelligence, and its emotion. Many invented invention to create artificial emotion but knowing that something was fake irritated humanity to no end. Humanity was on the brink of collapse, not from war, but from losing their emotions.
The intelligence repressor was invented to treat the problem of being emotionless, it treated the problem like intended but it did not cure it. The rebel army's goal was to devolve humans so that they could feel emotion again, they wanted humanity to save itself by having real emotions, this is why many supported their cause. The government also supported their cause but there was one tiny its bitsy problem that brought everyone's wish to a halt.
The A.I that their ancestor created to lay down the foundation of the country did not allow them to devolve humanity. They believed that humanity should always strive to improve. Humanity either succeeded in improving themselves or they died trying.
This made the current humanity hate their former ancestor. The guy who was once considered brilliant to have thought up of this is now called a spawn of satan. Humanity hated the guy that said humanity should always strive to improve itself. Getting shot in the foot wasn't nice at all.
Now one might say, take down the AI, return to monkey. Unfortunately AI currently controls most of humanity's current assets. The ability of AI to fight back is extremely powerful.
At this point, most of humanity thinks hope is lost and have given up. People that gave up included Jack JJ Jelly. He was made by his parents to counter the brain and create real emotions. If his parent's project was a success, then they could save humanity. Unfortunately his parents failed, instead of countering the brain, they instead made the brain even stronger.
Jack was born without emotions, a creature born without emotion is not considered human. His parents planned to put him out of his misery until their daughter stepped in. Their daughter was a mild success of their experiment and wasn't fully considered a defect. As long as she wasn't fully a defect; she had human rights and AI protected that right.
Jack did not understand why Reese saved him, it was simply illogical. Although Jack was emotionless, he was extremely intelligent, his intelligence surpassed even that of the strongest AI. From Jack's standpoint, humanity could not save itself without emotion, people without emotion should simply cease to exist.
His sister threatened to kill herself if he killed himself. Seeing that his death would cause harm, he choose to follow his sister's wish. Although he followed his sister's wishes, he was still dead on the inside.
His sister didn't like that he was dead on the inside. She wanted to make him feel emotion even if it was impossible. One day she placed Jack in a simulator while he was asleep and went in the simulator with him.
In the simulator, their parents kicked them out while treating them meanly. The simulator was in a world where the technology currently wasn't super advanced yet. There weren't machines that produced an infinite amount of food supply that fed everyone.
The simulator they were in was used by many to escape from reality. In the simulator world, everyone was dirt poor and they had to work their way up by selling and buying. Jack thought the world was real; he had super intelligence, but he didn't know the true real world. The two lived their life out in the simulator struggling every day.

Cowboys and Wizards
Currently in queue: Episode 12 in progress. Set in the Aurora: Apocalypse universe.Updated every Wednesday. If it's not updating, I'm working on my other fictions. If nothing's updating, I ran out of whiskey. Be patient. Cowboys and Wizards is a hot mess of garbage that should not be taken seriously by anyone. It’s a vaguely-GameLit spoof of Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomoni (In Another World With My Smartphone) where the MC ends up in another world and fused with his crappy smartphone, mashed up with fantasy western elements. Dungeons & Dragons meets the Wild West in an alternate high-fantasy timeline. Guns & Goblins. Cowboys & Wizards. Locomotives & Dwarves. Don’t expect great writing, accurate numbers, or common sense. Hell, don’t expect anything — just relax and let it happen.

Recovery of a Life
The prince of a kingdom was erased from the world. His very existence an enigma. Follow Xopil as he forces his life into a world that refuses to acknowledge his presence. I tried to write a novel without including all the standard things you find in certain genres, or if it is included, I hope it's at least a fresh take on it, this includes me breaking the fourth wall, probably too much. I'm wondering if that helped with humor at all, and also reconsidering if that should be a part of the story. I'm going to be rewriting every chapter at this point... and that chapter I'm extremely disappointed with could likely be deleted if not redone entirely. Now that this story is marked 'completed', I'll be going through each chapter and fleshing out the story a bit, as I found it severely lacking, and I've been saying to myself "I could have done more with that." way more often than I should be. And that speaks to my own dissatisfaction with my writing. I make no warranty-express or implied-as to the quality of these chapters, or the story as a whole. Cover art by Roman Valeyev
