Joy walked silently through the forest, he did his best to make any sound. He spotted a few demons but didn't attack. He didn't feel safe in the forest he was in, it was best he found a new safer place. As he walked, he got the wings ready, at a moment's notice, he would fly away to avoid danger.
A loud screech of pain echoed throughout the forest, it seemed there was a demon fight. Joy avoided the sound, it was best to avoid trouble. After walking cautiously through the forest for many hours, he came upon a rocky plain with a magma river. The heat from the magma was scorching and Joy could feel it from afar. There were most likely lava demons in the river so Joy decided to avoid it.
Looking at the rocky plain, he didn't see any demons, that was most likely because of the flying demons. Joy jumped and flapped the wings in his hand. He flew into the sky while staying cautious. He planned on finding a place to grow and stay safe. While flying, he encounters a few flying demons.
The flying demons were very weak and Joy easily dealt with them. After flying for a while, he spotted a huge burnt lonesome tree with a hollow hole. The tree seemed like a perfect home but it seemed suspicious to Joy. For all Joy knew, the tree could be a demon in disguise waiting for prey to come close by.
Joy looked around himself and saw a vast land of rocky plains with mountains and volcanoes in the far distance. He looked back at the lone tree and decided to take a risk. He flew towards the tree and prepared to flee the moment it moved. As he got closer and closer, the tree did not move. Joy landed on the tree and quickly flew away.
The tree did not move to chase after him, it seemed the tree was just an ordinary tree that died. Joy flew back to the tree and went inside its hollow hole. The hollow hole led to a space big enough for Joy to relax. Joy was happy, he could live in this hollow hole and stay safe. Feeling tired, Joy closed his eyes and fell asleep.
After a long while, he woke up feeling energized. There was no day or night in the demon world, only a read sky that never changes. Joy got out of his hole and flew into the sky. He felt it was easier to fly after sleeping. He also felt that he had no more demon essence. He opened up his status and checked himself.

His endurance had grow by a point and this made him happy, it may look small, but it was a huge increase for him. The increase was equivalent to doubling his endurance. Flying in the sky, he spotted a few flying worm demons and rushed towards them.
They sensed him rushing towards them and they fled in all direction. They were far faster than Joy and he decided to stop chasing them. Thinking of another way to hunt, he decided to hunt demons on the ground instead.
He looked at the vast rocky plain below and flew down with the wind passing by him. Soon, he spotted a demon. The demon was as skinny as a stick, it had four limbs, an eye, a mouth, two sickle claw on its back, and it walked on all four. It sensed Joy and looked up. Its one eye seemed desolate to Joy.
It seemed afraid of Joy and it ran away. Joy was faster and he slammed on its back. It fell to the ground with a screech and Joy sliced its back with the wings. Joy flew up and watched as blood gushed out from its back. Joy did not plan on fighting it to death, if he got injured in the fight he would be in a dangerous position. He planned on making the demon bleed to death while staying safe.
The demon for back up and ran away, but its speed was slower than this time. It ran as it bleed and it soon fell to the ground. Joy landed close by and grabbed a few stones. He threw the stones and they slammed into the demon. The demon moaned with pain and Joy kept throwing stones.
After a while, not a single sound of pain was uttered from the demon as Joy kept throwing stones at it. The became still and its soul floated out of its body. Joy quickly rushed towards the soul and devoured it. He then looked at the demon carcass and ate it. A black screen with white words and numbers showed up in front of Joy. Joy became surprised as the screen looked different from his white transparent status screen.

Unknown knowledge filled his head and he knew what the screen did. He became happy and took off into the sky. A bone spear flew through the air and pierced Joy’s back. Joy felt some slight pain and gritted his teeth.

The spear was heavy and tugged at his wound. He looked towards the direction it came from and saw a Swarmor. It was the same Swarmor that he first encountered and it wanted revenge. It threw its sword and Joy knew he couldn't dodge.
“Fuck,” he thought to himself.
The sword pierced into his head and he felt a moment of pain and his mind went blank. Everything faded to darkness and became silent. Joy lost all sensation and felt his mind disappear.
In another dark space, Eszero was looking at a small tree in her hand. It was a shiny space tree filled with stars. The tree had four branches and seemed to be missing other branches. Under the tree, there was a single root that was very small and it seemed there were many missing roots.
The trunk of the tree represented every world that there was and is. The four branches represent the world of the Above, Below, Void, and Dream. The angels inhabited the Above world, the demons in the Below world, the void creatures in the Void world, and the dream creatures in the Dreamworld. There are other branches but Eszero had never encountered them so she did not know their location.
The small root of the tree represented Eszero. There are other roots of the tree, they are Externity like Eszero herself, but so far she hadn't encountered one. A signal shined in Eszero’s mind and the tree disappeared from her hand.
She looked in a direction with nothing and Joy came into existence. Joy regained all his memories and felt he had been played with again. He looked at Eszero with hatred and wanted to break her neck.
“You disappoint me, I don't know what to do with you,” Eszero said softly with dull eyes.
“I do,” said JJ with a low voice as he came into existence.
“What should I do with him?” asked Eszero.
“I can give you the answer but I just lost a game with Jelly because he had something on me, show me some deep moments of Jelly’s past and I’ll give you the answer,” said JJ with a smile.
“Very well,” Eszero replied.
“Good,” said JJ.
JJ looked toward Joy and Joy looked at him with hatred as JJ looked like Jack.
“Make him experience hardship, he is like a child who has been told right from wrong, not someone who has experienced and knows what is right and wrong,” said JJ.
“How do I do that?” asked Eszero.
“Send him to a brutal world, give him a family, and retrieve him when he dies of old age,” said JJ.
“Very well,” said Eszero.
The reality of the two changes and they appeared in a hospital hall. JJ saw a purple-haired man wearing a lab coat sitting on a chair by a double door. The man seemed tired and haggard. His thumbs and pointer finger rubbed his eyes. In his left hand were his glasses. The man sighed, got up, and left the hospital hall.
JJ knew the man was Jelly and he went through the double door. Within the room of the double door, he saw a malnourished child that had starved to death. JJ searched through his memories, when he was living in the world of virtual reality, he had heard the history of many countries.
In one of the countries, a deadly virus erupted and washed over the surrounding countries. Every country that was struck with the virus had hospitals filled with starving children. It seemed Jelly failed in his search of finding a cure or maybe he started the virus.
“Did he start the virus or was he trying to cure it?” asked JJ.
“Both, he was poor and made the virus for someone, the virus wasn't supposed to be very lethal but you know how things turned out,” said Eszero.
JJ looked at Eszero and sighed in his heart. He wanted an embarrassing moment of Jelly, not this dark stuff. He disappeared and left Eszero. Eszero went back to Joy, she was going to make a world just for him. However, giving him family was going to be problematic, he would probably become very defiant if his family was dirt in the eyes of his other selves.
Two essences of light appeared in Eszero’s hand, they were the essence of Valine and Vanilla. If it were these two, then everyone and Joy could probably accept it.

Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent

Tales of a Grim World.
Ancient prophecies say that once every thousand years, one shall rise to bring about a new age of darkness. A harbinger of evil, a being born for the sole purpose of sowing misery and disgrace. Through them, the world shall know of war, famine, pestilence and death— the four seals that herald the end of times. Besieged by the maws of evil, humankind shall suffer in agony as they watch everything they once knew be unmade before them. To oppose such a being, the whole world has had to stand united, in the battles that came to be historically known as the Great Holy Wars. Guided by the Saintess of Irithel, brave heroes coming from the four corners of the world had to sacrifice their lives in order to fight against the Harbinger and cast away the darkness. Our story begins in the year 578, a bit over six hundred years since the end of the fifth holy war. In the kingdom of Valtia, a small nation belonging to the Union of Western Kingdoms, an urgent missive bearing the royal seal arrives at the hands of Earl William Taylor. Though it might still be almost half a millennia too early for another Harbinger to be born, dark clouds already loom over the northern continent of Gram, as many bizarre events start taking place. Follow the story of our main characters as they struggle to survive in a grim, unforgiving world. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Warning: This work is intended for mature audiences and contains adult scenes and heavy descriptions of violence and gore.
