《EEPOS: from rags to godhood》The black rats are back part 1

Haley came down to the armory.
“Are you guys doing anything?” Haley asked.
“Nope, all my puppets are done and ready,” Yosef said and took out his mannequin controller.
“What the fuck? Were you just entire time…..”Joan yelled out mad.
“Wasting your time, yes.”
“Good, both of you come with me. We have a mission,” Haley said and dragged both Joan and Yosef along with her.

Haley, Yosef and Joan were walking on the streets of the capital. They took a turn to the district that was in control of one of the grey skin gangs.
“So what are we supposed to do here in this dump,” Joan said looking around the new slums of the city.
“This dump is where both I and Rufus grew up. It also is now home to a gang that sells food for the locals at a much higher price and threatens the humans that live in this neighborhood. We are here to stop them,” Haley explained.
“And so we go and destroy this gang and wait for a new one to pop up and take their place. Sounds good,” Yosef sarcastically noted.
“We won’t let a power vacuum appear. We will bring an old useful organization back from the grave to fill in this void. The black rat gang.”
"The black what?" Yosef asked.
"The black rat gang. A notorious crime organization that used to rule the capitals underworld," Joan explained.
"A ruthless organization, that took care of the people when the central government didn't. Also, an organization that I was a part of and what you with your knights brutally massacred. So I won't be having any backtalk."

The three of them were in front of a bar that the grey skin gangs used as their base of operations.

“Alright, time to test out your abilities puppeteer. Go and make those gangsters submit to us or take care of them,” Haley noted and pointed at the bar.
“Uhmmm….Can you read that sign? Only grey skins I believe it says and also, why should I?”
“Because I say so. As Rufus said if you want your cushy life to continue you better do your part,” Haley scolded.
Yosef sighed and walked toward the bar. He opened the door and saw tens of scary-looking grey skins.
“So uhmm…. Would any one of you want to submit to us willingly?”
All the grey skin gangsters started to take out weapons while looking fiercely at Yosef.
“Oh yeah, forgot. They don’t speak the same language as the humans,” Yosef sarcastically said to himself.
Yosef touched his necklace that had four tiny puppets hanging on it. The four puppets started to glow and grew larger.
The grey skins attacked Yosef with small knives and swords. As they advanced toward him the puppets themselves attacked them back. The one with the sword wielded his weapon like a true master swordsman. The one with the glaive cut down all the enemies in front of him with just a single swing. The last puppet with a battleax crushed all its enemies with ease including tables that happen to come in its way.
The puppets were masterfully controlled by Yosef who waved his marionette controller around like a madman. They moved fast and with just one pull they almost flew through the air helping each other. It was like looking at a well rehearsed dance.
When one grey skin struck with a sword at a puppet it just made a clunk sound with the puppet then staring right at him turning its head completely around. It then stabbed the grey skin with its own sword and threw the grey skin away with ease. The puppets felt no pain nor were it easy to destroy them with their strong iron armor around them.

Still one of the grey skin was able to sneak past the puppets and lunged at Yosef who was too slow to dodge it.
Quickly Joan stepped forward and saved Yosef from the attacker. She stabbed the grey skin through its chest with her large sword and then shook the corpse off of it.
“Why aren’t you using your fourth puppet?” Joan asked.
“Oh, you mean Mike? I told you already that I haven’t figured out what weapon to weapon to give him that would identify him?”
“Wasn’t he Bob?”
“Yeah, I am still thinking of a good name.”

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
