《Children of Ohst》Prologue

The room was lighted only by the evening dusk, a petty dirty yellow of a sky which wasn’t sure itself if it was good or bad weather. In front of a table: a man, sitting in an armchair, a woman, standing. In front of her, a deep, metallic tray filled with a translucent liquid.
„Are you sure?” he asked.
„If you don’t want to go on, I’ll stop.”
He swallowed painfully.
„Do it. Do it now, before I lose my courage...”
She took his head in her palms.
„Remember!”
He went limp. His whispers were faint, but not enough; she couldn't hear them. Leaving him sleeping on the chair, the woman went to the table and hit the tray frame with her nail, repeatedly, in a complicated rhythm pattern. It resonated like a small silver bell. Suddenly, a hirsute face was looking at her from inside the liquid
„I require access to the Secret Library,” she said.
The face looked at her motionless for about a minute before the reply came.
„You have an hour.”
Gathering her courage, she touched the liquid with her fingers.
„It tickles,” she said for herself. The man was still sound asleep.
It took her almost the full hour to get something.
„There’s another level... A secret among secrets... ”
With a deep frown, a testimony of her concentration, she started to mutter incomprehensible words. Suddenly, a shower of bubbles erupted outwards, like soap bubbles kids blow. Gradually, they puffed out of existence until a single one remained. A breeze tried to snatch it out of the open window but she prooved faster, putting a small tin can in front of it.
„You’re mine!” she said with triumph.
„mine... mine... mine...” replied a faint echo.

Anathema
The Prince used to dance — until he discovered the strings moving his legs. The Rebel used to hope — until reality slammed a door in her face. The Spy used to live for nothing but money — until he found himself a family. And the Slave craved freedom more than air — until a small hand reached to her for help.
