Amaria, Mum, and I walked back to her house. Amaria asked for permission to help with designs for the nursery, of course, her parents said yes.
When we got back to our house, my mum set us down at our kitchen table and asked for our opinions on the nursery. “Amaria, Lunar, what color do you think we should do, for her nursery? I’m thinking light pink.”
“Ooh! I love that,” Amaria clapped excitedly.
“What about you, Lunar?” Mum inquired.
“I like the light pink idea,” as I answered I heard skittering I turned my head quickly, the crimson, and gold speckled egg had reappeared.
“I’ll be right back,” I called out as I got down from the table, grabbed the egg shielding it from Amaria and Mum, and ran upstairs to my room.
“How did you get inside my house?” I asked quietly, worried about them hearing me, after the incident. The egg shook a bit, floating above my hands. “Are you okay?” Suddenly worried about them.
“Ambrose?” the egg perked up. His name has to be Ambrose, I am certain of it. I declared. “Hey, Ambrose,” the egg shivered a bit and then relaxed, falling into my hand. I rubbed it with my finger and it was getting colder. “Ambrose?” I felt a weak wiggle then it stopped, panic filled me as I remembered when I found the egg I tried to hatch, dead. “Ambrose, are you okay?” My body shook, “Please, not again…” I felt the color drain from my face as he didn’t move. I fell to my knees, “Please, Ambrose.”
I hear Amaria come up the stairs, “Hey, your mum is wondering-” She paused, “Are you okay?” She came up to me. “What is that?” I jumped and hid the egg behind me, “You scared me!” I exclaimed.
“Oh, I am sorry- I didn’t mean to, but what are you doing?”
“Nothing?” I asked, uncertain.
“You are lying to me again,” She stated.
Sighing, “Remember that noise we were trying to find, a while back?”
“Well, yeah. How could I forget?”
“I-”
“You don’t need to tell me, Lunar. You're so funny,” She laughed.

“Sorry,” I replied.
“Why are you apologizing?”
“I don’t know!” I remarked. She laughed, her iconic noise. It was so cute and contagious, I started laughing.
“But what about the noise?” She asked, wiping a tear off from under her eyes.
“Oh, right…” I gently pulled Ambrose in front of me, “I found what was making the noise.” She looked at him closely, taking him in. “May I touch him?” I paused, “He is sick, but yeah.” She gently touches him, “Is he an egg?”
“Yeah.”
“He’s very cold.”
“I know, but I don’t know what to do.”
“Hmm, we can cover him in blankets and set up the fire downstairs.”
“My mum can’t know,” I snapped, raising my arms in annoyance. She flinched and put her arms up, “I-i am sorry,” She muttered, tears streaming down her face. Her eyes looked like a glaze had overcome them. She spaced out looking at nothing in particular.
“Amaria?” Frightened, I asked. I waved my hands in front of her eyes, she didn’t respond. I shook her a bit, she turned her head towards me.
“What do you want?” She demanded. Startled by her sudden aggression, “Amaria..? What’s wrong? Why did you flinch?”
“Damn it, do you not know?” Her eyes looked almost red in the lighting.
“Do I know what?”
“She told us she was going to tell you.”
“Who is ‘us’?”
She sighed annoyed, “Me, Amaria, Gaia, and Irene.”
“4 people?”
“Yes, deal with it.”
“Where is Amaria?”
“She is sleeping. She will come back in a few hours.”
“Where is she sleeping?”
“In our mind, duh.”
“Who are you, though?”
“I am Cosmo.”
“Cosmo? Isn’t that a-”
“Yes it is, I am a boy. The only boy actually.”
“But, you don’t sound like a boy. I mean your voice is a bit deeper than Amaria’s…”
“I know that I am stuck in a girl's body after all.”
“But what did you mean by ‘The only boy’?” I quoted.
“Yeah, I'm the only boy in Amaria’s head at least.”

“Okay, I’m lost.”
“Of course, you are, damn it! Why did I have to front? I cannot describe anything!” He raised his voice.
“Shh, please quiet down, my mum is downstairs.”
“I know that I am not stupid.” He quieted down anyway, “What the hell did you do to her, to make me come out. Wait, you didn’t snap at her did you?” I shivered at his tone, “N-not on purpose.”
“Damn it, okay. Please tell me, you didn’t raise your hands too…”
I thought back to it, “I may have accidentally. I didn’t mean to…” Ambrose squeaked by me, “Oh, ah! Oh my gosh, I almost forgot about you” I said looking at Ambrose, “Please help me, Cosmo…” I begged.
He sighed, “Alright. But this conversion isn’t over.”
“I know,” I promised.
“So, what do we do?”
“I don’t know…”
“Hold on! Luckily for you, Gaia is very good at animal care.” His eyes shut he said, “Grab a blanket, wrap it around it.”
“‘It’ has a name, his name is Ambrose,” I said annoyed.
“Shut up, unless you don’t want help,” he opened his eyes fast and glared at me.
“Sorry, sorry! Continue,” I backed off and grabbed a blanket and wrapped him up.
“Okay, we need warmth. So, do you have a light or anything?” He turned his head sweeping the room, “Plan B, we have to warm him up now. We have to bring him downstairs.”
“But- Mum is down there…”
Cosmo stared at me, “Well, I don’t know or care about the reason why you don’t want to show him to your mum. But if you don’t he will die. So, stop acting like a fucking crybaby and be responsible.”
“I- why are you helping me?” I stuttered.
“Because, I know Amaria wants me to ‘get out of my shell’,” he used finger quotes. “Plus, for some reason, she cares about you, even after everything you have done to her.”
“I am still sorry for that,” I said ashamed.
“Shut up, seriously I did not know you were like this, Amaria never warned us of ‘you’,” he gestured at me.
“Sorry,” I sarcastically stated, dragging the ‘ry’ part out.
“Well, it’s too late now. Put the egg by the fireplace or I am going to leave and have you deal with him.”
“Fine,” I stomped downstairs. “You okay my moonshine?” Mum asked, concerned. “Yeah, I need to warm this little guy up.”
“What little guy?” She came towards me. I took a deep breath, “I found another egg, but this one is different from the last one”
“Oh… Ok. Why do you need to warm it up?”
“His name is Ambrose and because…” I held out the egg to Mum, she touched it lightly.
“I-is he alive?”
“Yeah, right Ambrose?” Ambrose twitched in my hand.
“Oh, you can talk to him? I have never seen anything like that.”
“Yeah… He is very cold though please help me.”
“Hm, okay. Set him up by the fire and I will get hot water. Hey, sweetie, this isn’t another one of those ‘Hatch The Egg’ things is it?”
“No, he came to me not the opposite way.”
“Alright, just making sure.” She got up and boiled some water. I sighed in relief as I put Ambrose next to the fire, “Don’t die on me, Ambrose. Devita would be pissed.” Ambrose gave me a weak shake and relaxed. Moments later Mum came back with hot water and put it near Ambrose, “This should keep the area around him humid, we don't want him to dry out,” Mum stood up and walked over to the couch and started sewing. We heard footsteps as someone walked down the steps, “Hey Lunar? What happened?”
“Uh, you don’t remember a thing?”
“Not really?”
“Wait, Cosmo?”
“Cosmo..? Oh, Cosmo! No, it’s me.”
“Amaria?”
“Yeah,” She said. I hugged her tightly, “I am so sorry!”
“I don’t know what you are apologizing for but, it's okay. Oh, you got Ambrose set up!”
“Yeah,” I sighed with relief. She came over to me and sat down. The fire flickered gently.
