《Union of Worlds: Adventure in the Sky》Chapter 5 Stop The Execution

Back with Jhin, Talisa, and Shaq. They were currently rushing through the chaotic streets of Crete city. Bricks and stones had fallen all over and the streets were packed with the debris, as well as the many injured citizens waiting for aid to come.
Plenty of strange looks came their way. Some simple curiosity, and other blatant hate and fear. It was in one of the latter that Shaq Stopped running through the streets and turned around, fist at the ready.
"Stop it Shaq." Talisa said to Shaq. "We have more important things to do."
Shaq stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Talisa and Jhin. His anger mostly went away seeing them being serious. He knew that Talisa was right and the fact that Jhin didn't say anything to egg him on helped calm him down. He unclenched his fist and let out a breath, he also glared at the people that had been looking at him that way and turned away from them.
"Now that I think about it... Didn't we forget to talk about the Status?"
"But... There isn't much to talk about either... We don't know anything about it and there is nothing on it yet, other than some basic stuff."
"I agree with Talisa... We will have to see as we go, what the System entails." Jhin added as the three marched on.
"What about the other world then?" Talisa went on to say. "We didn't have the System, meaning that it comes from one of the other two Worlds... That leaves one more world that we know nothing about..."
"Yeah, we pretty much in the deep. Anything is possible." Jhin responded solemnly to Talisa's statement.
The three of them stopped talking though as they reached a big plaza. On the plaza, a wide, square, wooden platform stood tall. On it, what could only be called a guillotine stood in place. Its sharp blade being placed inside the contraption by a person decked out in plated armor.
Surrounding the platform 20 Royal Guards stood straight and silent as they stopped all the onlookers from walking up the platform. In times of mass panic such as this, it surprised the trio to find so many people congregate in one place. Not only were they wanting to go up the platform and stop the executioners from doing their work but they were also yelling for a man name Sklavos to be freed.
One of the royal guards noticed the group of people, that were quite clearly from the slums and turned to another guard before leaving his post.

Jhin didn't notice anything as he was already looking at the man the people wanted to save. Sklavos was a tall man, slim and tall. His age showed in his hair, white and grey with only specks of black, only to show how he used to be. He was clean-shaven, which, along with his clothing choices gave a very orderly impression.
"Everyone... This is probably the end for me." Sklavos started speaking and the shouts of the crowd immediately stopped. "But please listen to what I have to say one last time..." Shouts asking for the reason for this execution rang out in the almost silent square. The connection this man had with the people of this city was plain for all to see. " I may have failed at the mission the late King left me with... But I am sure of it. A day will come, Where the King's dream will be taken upon someone else to complete... And it will come to fruition, the kingdom that we all wanted, and not the filthy trash hip this Kleanuex has created. "
Sklavos didn't get to say much more as a sudden disturbance occurred. A woman screamed and everyone looked in her direction. A guard was holding his sharp longsword overhead, ready to strike at its prey, with that prey being a very tall black man. He was caught unaware as he had clearly been paying attention to Sklavos's speech. His eyes suddenly changed and anger flooded his expression.
Sklavos screamed. "STOP!" But the blade fell down. With great speed and ferocity, it aimed to cut the innocent man in half. Right as it was about to strike a kick came flying in and smashed into the sword, changing its trajectory and saving Shaq from death's grasp.
"As if I'm gonna let you, idiot!" Jhin said as he landed right in between the guard and Shaq.
"Don't talk to me filth." The Guard answered back. His muscles bulged and he swang his sword once more. This time as a horizontal slash aiming to cut open Jhin's stomach.
Jhin stepped back and dodged the attack. In two big steps right after that, he had reached the inside of the enemy's guard. Using both hands Jhin grabbed the man's helmet and pulled downward. The man didn't fall so easily though and a punch came flying for Jhin's ribs. The iron glove smashed into his ribs and pushed Jhin off of the guard. Though his helmet came flying off as well.

His face was revealed to all, his rage at having his face exposed was apparent in his expression. A scar, beginning at his forehead above his left eye and ending below his lips and on the left side of his chin, adorned the face of this Guard.
Jhin was clenching at his ribs. The pain was more than he expected, meaning that he had probably broken a rib or two.
"I'm gonna KILL YOU!" The guard raged and screamed at Jhin as he rushed forward.
"Shaq, this one is yours, I'm gonna go stop the execution," Jhin said as he rushed towards the guard as if charging at him. The predictable vertical swing came and Jhin dodged yet again. This time though instead of trying to bring the guard down, since he couldn't just go and punch the iron armor, Jhin pushed the guard to the side as he rushed past. He quickly reached the platform thanks to Shaq throwing a brick at the guard and grabbing his attention.
"Lyrio, Finish what you started!!" Another guard yelled at the one that Shaq was now engaging in a fight with. He was the leader of the group of guards here in the execution platform. He reached for his sword, which was hanging on his back but the handle was in the side. An intimidating greatsword came out of that seeth and its sharp tip pointed straight at the rushing Jhin.
"If you truly want that man to rule!! Then don't just stand there! Help out!!" Jhin, with Talisa also by his side, yelled to the crowd as he ran to the stairs of the platform. He had now at least picked up a brick and could actually fight the guards.
Four of those guards were already there with weapons at the ready. They split up and Jhin had to deal with two of them. One charged straight at him and the other curved to the behind. Jhin though didn't want to let the two surround him and charged forward.
The enemy's long sword came, a perfectly straight piercing motion aiming for his chest. Jhin ducked down below the sword and with monkey-like movements placed his foot right below the enemy's outstretched legs. He shot up with all the force he could gather and smashed the brick in his right hand right onto the guard's chin. In a place that wasn't protected by the helmet, the guard's head flew up and he fell to the ground as his knees gave out.
By now the other man had already reached Jhin and was swinging his sword down. Jhin lunged forward away from the blade and over the fallen guard in front of him. He tumbled in the ground and corrected himself swiftly as he turned around and threw the brick in his hand on the guard. The brick landed right on his helmet and the guard fell to the ground on his back. He tried to get up right away but at that moment a few men jumped on him and held him down.
"Go!" One of the young able-bodied men shouted at Jhin as more and more people rushed in to interfere with the guards, even helping Talisa. jhin grabbed the defeated guards longsword and rushed up the platform. There were only a few steps and he jumped over them with large strides. Jhin and Talisa reached the guillotine were Sklavos had been kneeling in. a complicated expression on his face.
But they couldn't free Sklavos yet as there was a major problem they had yet to deal with. The greatsword flew down and Jhin jumped out of the way in the last moment, as it crashed into the wooden planks and shattered them. It and the impact cracked the planks surrounding the whole that had been created. Splinters flew everywhere and once they settled the man holding the greatsword, with his purple cape flowing in the wind, The golden crest on the chest and the medals on his shoulders signified him as the Leader of the Royal Guard, the strongest warrior of the kingdom.
"I, Alexander Shield, will not let you free him. For those are my orders." The man looked honorable, he was 2 and a half meters tall and he had an aura that inspired awe for all that gazed upon him. It was unfortunate, in Jhin's opinion, that Alexander was an enemy.
"That old man... Is important... I won't let you murder him." Jhin said as he got in a battle stance. He wasn't trained but he had fought a lot during his life and he knew at least how to hold a sword.
Talisa also got ready trying to copy the stance Jhin got. "No, Talisa. You take that man out of here. People are dying every moment we take to free him.

What Was Lost Outside Time
What happens to a mind, subjected to an infinite span of time? What remains, when it is taken out again? This is the story of an individual reborn after such time has passed that nothing remains of what it was; an individual who must learn once again what it is to be, beginning with awareness of the idea of awareness, and growing from there; from awareness of self, to awareness of others, to awareness of society, and on. This is the story of a mind; growing, learning, adapting, and becoming more. -- Currently the first three chapters are - well, kind of experimental. I both like and hate these; they were a pain to write, and I'm told by at least one person that they're painful to get through, but I think something like them is necessary to set one of the basic ideas about the way the story is written. It gets slightly more normal after that, the first arc of the story is rather "battle school", and I think I may need to go back and edit it - the characterization didn't end up working out as well as I had originally hoped, unfortunately, and ended up rather weak to my eye. I may go back and add a sub-plot or two, depending on how well I can handle the intended perspective shift of the second arc. -- Currently on hiatus, in case that wasn't obvious. I'm debating between rewriting large portions of what I've already written, and just finishing out the story, but either way, I don't actually have a clear idea of what I want to do right now. If I'm still feeling the same way in a few months I'll put a chapter up explaining where the story was going, maybe, so the people who have enjoyed it can know where the story was intended to go, and close this out.

Path of the Ancients
When humans with the ability to control the fundamental particles of the universe with their minds were first discovered, the age of space travel began in earnest. Relativistic travel faster than the speed of light became possible and humanity moved out into the stars. When it was discovered that these Mages could be turned into effective weapons, humanity turned back to its oldest pastime of war. Hundreds of years later as humanity was on the brink of self-destruction, with its taste for war finally beginning to wane, a new organization was created. The Conclave was formed to regulate all Mage’s within the human colonies. While the colonies maintained their independence, the Conclave’s control over access to interstellar travel made them the de facto power amongst humanity. As the old saying goes, ‘Power Corrupts’, and many people were unhappy with the way the Conclave had been leveraging its authority, not the least of which were the Mages they controlled. One unregistered illegal Mage by the name of Tyrial had made it his life's mission to dismantle the Conclave at any cost. After spending decades working towards his goals alone, he realized he would need the aid of willing allies in his crusade. Tyrial would need all the help he could get learning to work with others, dealing with his own dark past, and handling unfamiliar feelings of romantic interest.
