《The Adventures of the Mask Maker》Another Day at the Tavern Part 1
Advertisement
Walking into the tavern after a long day of motivational speeches, I called for some honey mead. Sitting at a table, I took out a B-rank Lizardman Chieftain mask:
Lizardman Chieftain Mask: B-rank
Non-transforming mask
No cooldown
No-limit
Indestructible
Stamina Drain 10% per hour
Special Attributes:
Boost all stats x3
Boost all nature-related resistances x3
Boost all earth-related resistances x3
Special Skills:
Call For Help! - Summons Lizardmen (max 5), Summons Lizards (max 10)
Warcry of the Lizards - Boosts allies morale 100%, decreases enemies morale 50%
Wrath of the Chieftain - Turn user berserker mode: increases strength and speed x2. Can only be used once per day.
"Selling Lizardman Chieftain Mask! Here are the details! Starting price of 50 gold, I'll sell to the highest bidder." I shouted, but it seemed like no one was interested in buying...either that or they were still too poor at the moment.
.........
Half an hour later....
..........
"What other masks might you have for sale? I don't think I can afford this one, but I am interested in how you make them." A goblin said as he came up to my table...wait goblin?
"You can see what type of masks I have in my bag...the S-rank ones are not for sale. As for making...well let's just say its a bloody process." I said as I observed this goblin.
"Then I won't ask about the Goblin and Hobgoblin masks. I am still intrigued, but since I am a monster myself, I have no use for these specific ones. Can I make a request?"
"Sure...I generally make transforming masks, non-transforming masks, and other enchanted masks. However, if its transforming and non-transforming masks, I need the faces of whatever creature to use as a base. What kind of mask do you want?
"I know that being a Goblin can unnerve certain people, so I need a simple mask that either hides my presence or can calm people down. If you can, just make the mask look like it relates to the enchantment. For example, a simple boring design for the hidden mask. I won't be able to pay for it right now, so you don't have to rush it. If there's any problems, let me know. Thanks"
"Hmm, ok. Oh by the way, I'm Khaos." I said as I showed him my guild card.
"My name is Gabriel." Gabriel replied. "I am an author and talisman constructor."
I looked at his guild card and noticed a very interesting skill of his - Cancel Escape. When I gave his guild card back, I said, "How about teaching me the Cancel Escape skill as payment for the mask?"
"Hehe, this spell I learned from my Master. It is a barrier that stops enemies from fleeing. I recognize that this seems to be a BOSS's natural ability in some places. Is this fine?"
"Yes."
"Haha, alright. So I take it you have a form of magic? First you must inscribe an object with the magic seal. Just manipulate your magic energy, or mana into the object. I used it on myself so the only way my opponent can leave the fight is after killing me. If it's on an item, then that can easily be stolen or broken and the effect won't be very beneficial."
After teaching my the skill, Gabriel cautioned, "This spell can be used by manipulating your mana to activate the seal. Once activated, the spell will last for the duration of the mana within the seal, the durability of the object used for the seal, and/or the power of the enemy. If you are fighting a being three times stronger than yourself, the seal will shatter - harming the object used and canceling the spell. This will allow the opponent to escape. Be careful, as it is more like a last resort against tougher enemies."
After learning how to perform the Cancel Escape spell from Gabriel, I pulled out a mask that I made for him. At a glance, this mask seems like an ordinary wooden mask made from white birch. However, when one looks at the stats, he/she will be amazed:
Mask of the Smiling Tree: D-rank
Enchanted Normal Mask
Indestructible
No cooldown
No-limit
Stamina Drain 10% per hour
Special Attributes:
Increase Charm 300% - allows user to appear very friendly and likeable
When worn, the mask blends with the user's face
Stamina Regeneration 10% per hour
I handed the mask to Gabriel. "Here, this mask will blend with your face so people can still see that you are a goblin. However, because of the charm increase, people will think that you are very friendly, likeable, and easy to approach and talk to. Also the Stamina Drain and Stamina Regeneration cancels each other out so you won't feel any strain from wearing the mask. Hope this satisfies your requirements. If not, tell me and I'll make another."
"This is fine, I just figure a charming Goblin would be different. Hahaha! Thanks!" Gabriel said as he quickly put on the mask. With a smile, he departed from my vicinity.
As I was sorting my materials, another adventurer approached me and asked, "Could ya make a mask out of a Mithril golem? I acquired its body parts when I encountered it while mining Mithril."
Looking up I see Fang - a monster tamer. "Do you want a transforming mask or a non-transforming mask? Now if you want a transforming mask, you should understand that the mask will transform you into a Mithril Golem."
"Ah...right. I quite like my current appearance so...non-transforming mask it is."
"Ok, hand over the mithril golem's head...and, if you're not using it, the moonlight water and I'll try to make something suitable. Is there any attributes you want added?" I said after looking at the stuff he had on hand.

"Since I depend mostly on my tamed monsters to do the work, I would like an increase in defense and strength." Fang said as he handed over the materials.
As I was receiving the materials from Fang, another adventurer approached with interest. This adventurer is called Speedy - a radiant demon assassin. She asked, "Um, can I request for a mask that heal the user and make the user immune to radiation damage?"
"Yes sure, just wait a moment."
As I was reaching in my bag to pull out more materials, Shiyo came and requested for another mask, "I want a Transformation Mask with the Orc King I killed. I'll be giving you this 3 Town Returning Scroll as payment"
After receiving orders from Shiyo, Speedy, and Fang, I activated my Maker's Domain. Starting with Fang's mask, I grabbed the Mithril Golem head and expertly removed the face with my Skinning knife. Then, I took the vial of moonlight water and washed the mask while chanting incantations. I took a few lizard and wolf teeth and crushed them into fine powder. Then, I dripped some of my blood filled with Maker's essence into the powder and mix into a red paste. Using the paste, I drew symbols onto the mask. The symbols glowed for a few minutes before fusing and disappearing into the mask. Next, I washed the mask with dragon tears in order to prevent the user from transforming. Finished, I appraised my work:
Mask of the Mithril Tamer: A-rank
Non-Transforming Mask
No cooldown
Indestructible
No-limit
Stamina Drain 10% per hour
Special Attributes:
Strength and Defense increase x5
Earth-related resistance +50%
Lizard Charm - 100% increase in chance of taming lizard species
Wolf Charm - 100% increase in chance of taming wolf species
Golem Charm - 100% increase in chance of taming golem species
Special Skills:
Night Prowler - see and fight better at night - capabilities double at night
Satisfied, I move on to Speedy's mask. Selecting the leaves of a high level healing herb, I made a green mask. Because I don't have enough healing herbs, the mask is only big enough to cover one side of the face. Taking out some dragon blood and mixing with my blood (that is filled with Maker's essence), I poured the mixture on the mask. While chanting incarnations, the blood spread out, covering the mask and turning it blue. After, I appraised the mask:
Mask of the Eternal Saint: A-rank
Enchanted Normal Mask
No cooldown
Indestructible
No-limit
Stamina Drain 10% per hour
Special Attributes:
Dragon-level regeneration
Immunity to all health-damaging effects
Stamina Regeneration 10% per hour (counters the stamina drain)
Special Skills:
Healing Field - high speed healing of allies within 10m radius
Satisfied with this mask, I moved on with Shiyo's mask. Taking the head of the orc king he killed from previous quests, I removed the face. After drying and preserving, I got to work. I took some boar blood and mixed with my Maker's essence filled blood. Then, I rubbed the mixture on the mask. The mask turned red as I chanted incantations until it went back to its original color. Taking a minor flame herb and crushed it to a juicy paste, I drew symbols on the mask while chanting. After the symbols disappeared, I appraised the mask.
Mask of the FireStarter: A-rank
No cooldown
Indestructible
No-limit
Transforms user to Orc King
Stamina Drain 10% per hour
Special Attributes:
Increase stats x3
Increase Fire resistance x3
Special Skills:
Summon Will O' Wisp (max 2)
Fireball
Summon Boar (max 3)
Warcry of the Orc King - boosts allies morale 50%, decreases enemies morale 50%
Satisfied, I deactivated my domain and handed the three masks to the respective customers.
"I expect payment of equal valued items/materials."
"I'll give you a sample of the complete radiant demon's blood and the design of the radiation sword that i got from the organization that created me." Speedy replied. "As well as two kilograms of demon metal."
"Hmm, what are the characteristics and capabilities of this radiant demon that you say?" I asked curiously, "Also, I don't need this sword design so you can keep it."
"Masters of speed and strength. They need some kind of radiation weapon to keep their radiation damage to a minimum. They also use the radiation to heal themselves no matter how serious the wounds are. If I have to say, they are near-immortals who have superior speed and strength."
"Ok, I accept this payment." I said. Speedy handed over the items and left with the mask.
Turning to the other customers, I see Shiyo reaching in his bag and pulled out some scrolls and some vials, "As payment I'll be giving you 10 Town portal scrolls (sometimes takes you somewhere else). And if that isn't enough, I'll also give you 5 drops of Demon Orc blood."
"Ok, deal. Here's your mask." I replied as we confirm the deal.
Looking at Fang, I see him still rummaging through his bag. "I have a few summoning books if you want."
"Hmm," I mused as I looked over the books, "None of these interest me. How about this, write me an IOU contract stating that when you have something I need, you will give it to me."
"Ok." Fang replied as he wrote the IOU. After we finished the deal, he left the tavern.
