《The Seeker's Quest》Chapter 55

The mind demon and the imp saw the 2 undead charging down the tunnel toward what they assumed was the barricades behind them, as they were moving back toward the main undead lair in search of the controller.
“That ghoul is coming in pretty fast master.” The imp looked uncertain.
“Fear not, it cannot sense us.” The mind demon ignored the ghoul, his attention was riveted on the being behind the ghoul. What was it? Whatever it was it was floating just above the ground keeping up with the rabid ghoul.
‘Hmm a lich? That explains everything.’ The mind demon moved to the side of the tunnel to let the creatures pass.
The imp dove behind the mind demon, but not so close that he would invade the other demon’s personal space.
The ghoul was just about to proceed past the two demons when it switched its angle at the last moment and plowed into the mind demon head on. A little leap and it was mostly atop the demon. Wicked claws and fangs tearing into its flesh.
The mind demon was stunned into inaction at first, there was no way he should have been sensed by the ghoul. Or the lich. Yet his cover was blown. Long tears opened along its body as the ghoul tore into it with both claws. The ghoul had it jaws latched onto the demon’s right shoulder, head whipping back and forth, trying to tear the demons arm off.
It only took a second for the demon to be in dire straights against the ghoul. Blood was pouring out of deep wounds. The mind demon reacted with a massive psionic blast straight at the ghoul. Trying its best to shut the ghouls mind down, giving it some breathing room to fight back. However, the demon was unaware of the undead beast’s mindless rage and fury that was stirred up by it’s master, the lich who stood back, seeming to be emotionless.

And yet Unq’Rul was seething inside himself. Two demons had deemed themselves worthy of encroaching on his domain. They would learn. All would learn to fear the lich and his army.
The high ghoul continued to tear deep wounds into the mind demon’s arms and torso in a frenzied attack. With a mighty lurch its head tore itself upward. The mind demons arm coming free at the shoulder. Blood fountained out of the wound. The demon feeling its hold on this plane of existence fading.
“Damn imp, get this thing off me!” The mind demon screamed out. Trying to get the imp to help him free himself.
“No, I don’t think so.” The imp said with a grin, watching the ghoul shred the mind demon’s body apart.
It took no more than a few seconds of crazed attacks and the mind demon’s body exploded. Having lost it’s hold on this realm, it lost hold of its corporeal form, forced to return to the hells from which it came.
The imp floated just a bit away, with a mad gleeful grin on its face.
The ghoul then turned its attention onto the imp. The imp immediately threw its arms up. “Wait!” it screamed pleadingly toward the lich. “I can be of use to you!”
Unq’Rul held up his hand. Forcing the ghoul to hold his position.
“Tell me imp, why should I spare a worm like you for breaking into my kingdom?”
Unq’Rul was calmer now that he had found and disposed of the more major threat. Without even having to step in to help his minion.
“I, we, didn’t know this was your kingdom great lich. I was just following orders from my master. If you spare me, I can be of use. As a spy. I can aid in magic. I can do whatever you require. I have some power.” The imp was rambling. Just tossing out words in hopes something might catch.

“I have my own spy’s cretin. No, you have strayed where you should not. A price must be paid.” Unq’Rul growled out. His ghoul minion leaning in for the kill.
“No! I will do whatever you wish! Please! I just wish to join and revel in your might and the chaos you will sow!” the imp begged.
Unq’Rul held his ghoul back, eyeing the imp. Considering. Maybe he could make use of a minor demon. He would not need to spend much effort controlling the thing, and he had plenty of minions to watch his movements. Maybe having a servant with some intelligence around… and someone to talk to. As much as Unq’Rul did not want to admit it, he missed conversation to some degree.
“Very well. I will let you live. And in doing so your life is mine. You will do as I say. Failing to do the tasks I put before you, will earn you harsh punishment. So do not fail me little imp.” Unq’Rul’s eyes lit up a bit brighter as he glares at the imp.
“Yes, oh great lich! I will do all you ask, and more.” The imp started bobbing in the air. Bowing to his new master. This would be more fun than following around a stuffy old mind demon. Already the imp had had more excitement in the past minute than the whole time with his previous master. “Everything you ask.”
“Very well. You will stay away from the living orcs. They are mine when I decide to turn them. For now, acquaint yourself with my lair. Learn it’s pathways. I will be asking much of you in the following days.” With that Unq’Rul turned and floated back toward his dimensional abode. Ruk’Kesh looking almost like a puppy who had his toy taken away followed, heading back to the throne room. The imp floated along in quiet tension. While he guessed he was safe enough for now, one could never guess the mind of the undead. Still, he had taken a step up in the world., and he didn’t even have to risk his well being on getting rid of the mind demon. Life was definitely looking up. He hoped.

Lone: The Wanderer [Dropped Version (includes original draft of the rewrite's first volume)]
Nine-to-five. The daily grind. Life. Painful years of school. Working as a slave for some undeserving corporate big-wig. The monotonous life of unemployment. We all experience this in one way or another, and we can all conclude one thing: it's dull. Such a fact rings true even for the fabled Lone Immortus, a powerful nine-tailed Golden Foxkin. However, what would you do if your monotony was suddenly ground to a halt and you were thrown out of your comfort zone along with a young girl forgotten by time? Perhaps you might have done things differently, been more organised, immediately died, gained control of the world in a matter of days, but this is Lone's tale, not yours. Watching two insecure people struggle to survive and find their place in an unfamiliar land just might be enjoyable to witness. Who knows? One thing's for certain: it won't be an easy path for them to tread, and what could possibly be more entertaining than watching people endure hardships and grow? I know of at least eight gods that would answer with, 'Absolutely nothing.' I wonder, after seeing this journey from start to finish, how would you answer? [Goal of 2 chapters per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies] A/N: This story is in the middle of a rewrite, so please forgive any noticeable plot holes and wonky chapter numbers. I am working on it every day, so understanding would be greatly appreciated. The new cover art is a courtesy of the very kind and talented ssddx. This novel is a participant in The Writer's Pledge

There's a reason people made the word improbable. Just because something would never happen based on common sense or reason, doesn't mean it can't happen. For example, a soul maintaining their memories through the River of the afterlife, a stream of ethereal energies that remove and store memories from the recently departed only to return when they die again. Another example, a soul by it's sheer will maintaining awareness during the process of a new body's development; nearly infintesimile chances of happening, but there is still a chance. Hi, you can call me Esseu (S U) and I managed to do both of those nearly impossible things back to back. My reward for such a feat? I was turned into a glorified bee keeper.
