Chapter 8: The Children’s Quarrel
As soon as I landed on the ceiling, I accelerated forward, since my awareness is superhuman at the moment, I can calculate precisely my next few course of actions.
I pat on the fat guy’s head and do a double flip on the wall opposite to me. As soon as I rested my foot on the wall, I jumped again and rotated midair, sending my kick flying with a centrifugal force. Smashed the ice mage’s cheeks.
If only I could also use some sort of elemental magic, it would be great. Why not try it. I concentrate by closing my eyes, trying to find any anomalies or changes I experienced in my body as the magic should be there only.
Nothing.
All I see is a static TV type things that appear in my view and disappears. It’s a complete chaos, I can concentrate. I don’t know what to try.
As I was falling, I decided to go for a bonus hit, I started moving my elbow towards that fat guy’s nose. In a blink of an eye, ice mage and fat boy were flat. All that is left are 2 sidekick mages and this girl.
“Tch! How dare you newbie” Erisa barked
I immediately took a back step and rolled to the left and jumped again, the earth mage is more troublesome as compared to others. It’s interesting how a sidekick is better than the main villain here.
I guess the world despite being so unbelievable is still realistic in this particular aspect.
She suddenly revealed her magic, it was wind element. While midair, I was blown away. Crap, I take my word back, she was just holding back. She unleashed a small tornado again.
The earth mage and the other sidekick with lightening element also joined in. I guess that’s it for me then. I smiled.
The earth mage broke the floor, Erisa threw a tornado on it and last but not least, the lightening mage charged those particles and now lightening is being generated on its own.
Why are they using such advanced techniques on a simple guy like me?
“[Nullify]”
As soon as we heard the voice, the fat guy, the sidekicks and even Erisa were shocked. Everyone seems to have regained consciousness it seems. I look behind and notice, another girl walking.
She have a special badge which reads “Head Girl” on it.
Wow, such power, as soon as her spell took affect all the elements disappeared, my heavy feet is also alright and the guys I had knocked off are also awake. If this was a game, I’d say she can remove status ailments.

This world really is very similar to a fantasy game world after all.
“How many times do I have to report your ill deeds” she yelled at all of us. The boy in specs who was originally bullied explained everything again. She politely apologized and asked us to leave for induction process.
“As for the rest of you, I will file a detailed report this time, I have caught all of you red handed.”
She says so while re-positioning her specs. The head girl looks like a hot girl, she have an athletic build, long black hair and wears red framed specs. The glass doesn’t look like it have any focal power, this could probably be a magic item.
Now that I am in a magic world, I cannot ignore this possibility. As soon as she was done with the bullies, I politely asked the way for the induction and the boy in specs and I left for the same the very moment.
“My name is Erin” The boy in Specs said as we were walking towards the induction hall. “I’m Eli” I responded in a friendly tone.
“Are you new student or a repeater?” He asked
“Repeater?” do people fail in exams here too? I wondered
“I see so you are a new student” He concluded.
“You can use reality marble so well, so I thought you probably failed last year” he added.
“What’s reality marble?” I asked in curiosity.
“You don’t know that? Yet you can use it like it was a second nature? Are you kidding me?” he started asking too many questions.
I guess I will ask Stein regarding this. Fuck, I’m too curious, let’s see just how much does he know about it.
“So tell me what exactly this is?” I asked with curiosity.
“Well no shit people can mistake you for a repeater if you are even ignorant of your own magic” he said while acting all high and mighty know it all.
This just pisses me, but I put my pride away and try to probe again.
“Well to put it simply, casters of reality marble, override the reality, alter rules at their wills, like for you time would be slower and for us it will still run normally” he added
“Hey how do you know so much about complex magic such as this, are you a repeater?” I asked
“Well yes, I am, and don’t think this is some legendary skill, although it is rare to have and even rare for an elementary mage to be using, this is usually used with combination of other magic to make it a mid-tier level fights” he said.

“Oh so, I can perform this magic with other magic and make a deadly combination” this conversation clearly had escalated to a nerd level. I was still happy to have a chat with him.
“So Erin, mind if I ask you how did you fail last year?” I asked, because I wanted to ask.
I could see Erin’s expression change a little, he was looking depressed.
“I did not appear for my tests since my parents… my parents were murdered last year around this time” He had some difficulties speaking, he was stammering, he had closed his fist tightly.
“I see, I am sorry to hear Erin, I hope you got justice” I consoled Erin on our way. “It’s alright, I am over this, and the culprit was also killed by my parents in cross fire. They died taking care of the burden of justice with them” he added.
“Oh” I nodded.
While we were having our little talk, we reached the induction hall, we opened the door and noticed that everyone in the hall noticed us. All eyes were a little disappointed and angry at us. Stein was on stage and was looking at me with a poker face.
I in response, too, maintained a poker face.
We got to our seats and focused on what Stein had to say.
“Now that we have all students gathered, finally. Thanks to our school head girl Karin, to take care of the problem and resolve it so quickly”
The head girl from before was standing right in the corner of stage and was acting as if she was some body guard.
Well she sure does look strong. And sexy J
The long black hair till her waist, short skirt, athletic body, curvy breasts, confident eyes. Perfect Tsundere character to be honest.
As expected of school head girl.
“Ahem” Stein burst my day dream like a balloon with a cough. It appears I was asked something.
I left my eyebrows while seeing Stein, suggesting to repeat the question. Instead, Erin told me that my name was being called for attendance.
I immediately shouted, present sir with red cheeks. Shit, impression ruined, right in front of the head girl.
She was looking at me but as soon as I looked back at her, she turned her face like an hmph!
I was instantly depressed further.
“And now I bring forth the magic awakening orb in front of you all, as some of you might be aware, this is a treasured magic item of kingdom of Slaya”
I have already tried a similar orb back in castle, how different would this one be? Well I can see everyone is cheering and excited. One after one, students would go to the orb and place both their hands on it and concentrate.
“Lightening, I got lightening element, yay!” A boy shouted in excitement.
“Ice mage” I guy of cold nature just said so and shrugged. I guess elements depend on their nature probably.
“Light magic, I am a healer, I am fire mage” many got different results.
“I got gate magic, yay” one guy was so happy, everyone was like woah. I guess this one is a rare magic. Huh
Looks like the orb changes color based on the element awakened. Like for healing, it changes to green, fire is red, ice is blue, earth is brown, lightning is purple, light magic is white and dark is black.
The class have now almost all sorts of mage classes now. It was my turn now, I walked up the stage, Stein was looking at me with all tensed look on his face.
I too was very curious, the orb at castle didn’t detect anything but Stein did give me a potion, to grow mana glands in my body. Come to think of it, it’s after that I noticed I can accelerate faster than others.
I placed the hand on the orb, and close my eyes. I try to concentrate. Yet again, there is so much static in my mind, I just don’t know what is wrong with my mind. On surface I might look calm but inside, I have chaotic storm going on.
The orb started to vibrate, no colors visible, yet. I start leaking some black aura around me the whole induction room temperature dropped severely.
I can already hear people guessing my element, some say its ice due to the cold, others counter question why the orb is colored yet.
I can feel the orb is getting hotter now, okay it’s too hot now. I suddenly open my eyes, only to see the orb is on fire.
Everyone was shocked in the room, why is the orb burning. Stein was observing carefully. Suddenly the orb lit.

Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
