《The Marked》Jeremiah's diary

Journal entry
Last night, two boys on night watch duty found a bay in the forest. They reported that they saw a light coming from between the trees in the middle of the night, golden. They woke us up immediately to examine the baby. She is a girl and by the grace of God, in a perfect condition. She bears the Mark on her neck, under her right ear, it’s still faint but more intense than in any other baby any of us has ever seen. On her chest there is another Mark, the one we all know as the Mark of the Kyusei of light. Her appearance, just like in the records, and her Kyusei Mark, leave no doubt as to who she is. We thank God for choosing us as witnesses of the appearance of his envoy.
We have decided to inform the Council of her appearance and try to have them allow us to raise her in our Kare. With God’s help we will raise her happy and powerful. It’s strange to think that she’s going to become one of the strongest Marked in our world with how small she is.
We wish her to be happy in the future and that her powers will only be needed to maintain the peace we are enjoying.
A few days later
The Council has informed us that she is not the first Kyusei to appear but the third. The Kyusei of the Elements was found in the East three years ago and the Kyusei of the Night was found two years ago in the West, the Council wanted to wait until more of them had been found until they informed the other Kares. With this, we can say that Meira (as we have decided to name her), the Kyusei of Light, has been found the second month of summer of the Third year of the New Era.

First month of Summer. Year 7
This week we have received a visit of the dragons. It was completely unexpected. The dragons, even when they are open to people visiting them in their land, don’t normally travel out of it unless there’s an extremely important matter, don’t normally mix with humans unless it’s the ones serving them in their land or the few that visit them.
There were two enormous dragons that our little Meira, now almost four years old, observed fascinated. They brought with them a youngling that immediately attached itself to Meira and both started playing right away. Imagine our surprise when one of the dragons told us that the youngling is their Kyusei, roughly the same age as our Meira, that they have brought him here so they can form a strong bond for the future by growing up together. God willing, it will happen.
The little boy, God bless him, was incredibly confused when the elder dragons gave him his human form so he can interact with us better. He is a happy boy, with dark skin and his Mark under his eye, clear against his skin signalling just how much power he already has. His Kyusei Mark is on his chest just like Meira’s. The dragons have warned us that he won’t be able to control his transformations for a while, may God help him learn soon so no accidents happen.
After contacting the Council about this matter, they are considering doing the same with the other Kyusei in the future, starting with the Kyusei of Night and the Kyusei of the Elements. They are far away from each other, but the Council hopes they at least can arrange meetings between them, and our Meira and new boy Tirakan at some point.
We still don’t have news about the Kyusei of Life, but the Council thinks someone found them without knowing their nature and are taking care of them. May them, with the help of God, be well kept and happy.

The Glyph Queen
When Winnie was thirteen, her settlement taught her how to fire a rifle. Her school practiced drills in case raiders came, and the town grew crops in their greenhouse-adapted homes, which were the only places warm enough during the worldwide nuclear winter. The Lakiran empire invades—a corporate-born nation overseen by their corporate-born queen, Victoria Paladino. They ride silent planes whose repulsion field veered bullets away. Three years of occupation later, an exemplar visits—a member of Victoria’s oversight committee rumored to read minds. He tells Winnie that she may have a unique mental power, or a flair. At the empire’s capital, the queen herself tutors Winnie to help her reach the full potential of whatever power she may have. Meanwhile, in post-war Nigeria, a streetwise teenager named Naema sees a different side of the empire. Between corruption and oppression, everyone lives in squaller. People fight over assembled food pastes. She too is told she has a unique flair, not by the empire, but by a fugitive woman who is the last vestige of an ancient witch coven, and she knows a dark secret about what the exemplars do to people like Winnie and Naema. Updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The most recent chapters of The Glyph Queen are available on its main website.
