The air in the room was twisting and buckling. These distortions resembled the spread of an invisible gas or heavy sunlight refracting off a deserts surface. However, the true cause of this distortion was due to the sheer density of mana that was condensed inside the air.

The sound of swirling began. The air saturated with mana was swirling like a tornado. At the eye of this tornado was a man robbed in ashen garments, his right hand lifted as if beckoning the swirling mana. This man was named Lambin Scully, and he had the S-tier ability to summon otherworlders.

Scully was not from another world. He merely happened upon his summoning ability by sheer luck, even developing this ability from an unremarkable mana core. Summoning abilities could take many forms. Usually they manifested as a power to summon wisps, spirits, or other low level creatures to temporarily aid a caster in battle. In exceedingly rare cases, a summoning ability can appear that can summon otherworlders.

The air in the room stilled. Scully had finished gathering the latent mana.

You can summon a being to assist you. There appears to be no upper limit to the power of the summoned creature, but the required mana cost scales accordingly with strength.

Conditions

Otherworlders summoned by this ability seem to be born as an elf, usually in their preteen age. Obedience is only guaranteed when the creature is exceedingly weaker than the User. This ability is linked to the Users Wind mana-core. While in use, the user cannot use this core to conjure wind attribute mana.

Despite the grandiose nature of it all, this ritual was fairly ordinary for Scully. He would go through his champion summoning ritual over a dozen times a day. To him, this was just a regular day job, and the kingdom paid him quite handsomely for it.

It was an unremarkable summon, just like the past hundreds of summons for Scully. He approached the summoned elf with little care. Like the thousands before him, this elf simply seemed disoriented and confused.

A smile, to put the creature at ease.

Scully reached his hand forward. With a single touch he would dispatch of this elf and recycle the mana for the next routine summon. However, as Scully neared, an uncharacteristic flash of determination shone in the elfs eyes.

Crack.

The arm Scully had extended had been dislocated. It was so quick and decisive, Scully was overcome with more shock than actual pain.

This elf was Higuchi Katsuro, and this was his 130th time in the cycle of rebirth.
