《Cross Roads: Wolves of Oleander (Book Three)》Chapter 5 (October 10, 2014)

Hours went by as the Nether Elite are still alert and keeping their eyes open until there was sudden movement. The door of the Northwestern wing was opening. Walking towards the center were four people: an old man wearing a lab coat, three large armored guards, and a black rabbit kemonomimi.
Kayla spotted the fair-skinned rabbit kemonomimi long black hair and black eyes wearing a black dress with long silk gloves. Immediately Kayla quietly addressed her team, “it’s Redgrave. I have Jeanne Redgrave on the scope.”
Nowadays, Jeanne Redgrave focusing on alternative power resources such as solar energy. However, old habits do die hard, and every now and then, she comes back to her old laboratory in the middle of Gibraltar and tinker around her early military inventions. This time was no different, as she lowered down her recent inventions from the rafters.
This will be so sweet and yet so simple, that’s what Kayla was thinking about when she had Jeanne Redgrave in her crosshairs. All she had to do was pull the trigger, and that’s it. That will be the end of it. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t put her own team in danger for her own selfish well-being. And with the lurking monarch. And his royal advisor, who knows what they might do if they fail the mission? It was best to play along for now and listen in.
The scientist who looked to be in his 60s with reddish-gray hair and brown eyes spoke to Jeanne as they walked together to the lowering machine, “it took us a while to get the cross synaptic firing to act right. But with the solar power generator that you applied to us a couple of days ago, really did wonders.”
Jeanne looked on to the lowering bipedal mech as the scientist continued, “we have followed the mech’s blueprints thoroughly. As it now stands before you, it is finished. Being 15.2 meters tall and weighing 32 long tons. We used a lighter alloy for mobility and movement. Also, it’s solar-powered and remote-controlled. The beautiful part about this mechanized machine is that you can upload and download data in its mainframe, in which there is a self-aware supercomputer inside. The software we are using is a highly-modified IBM's DeepQA software and the Apache UIMA framework.”

“The system I wrote is compatible in various languages, including Java, C++, and Prolog, and runs on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating system using Apache Hadoop framework to provide distributed computing,” Jeanne added.
“Indeed,” The scientist agreed. “Now, the system’s hardware is workload-optimized, integrating massively parallel POWER7 processors and built on IBM's DeepQA technology.”
“It’s an oldie but goodie,” Jeanne admitted as the scientist nodded in agreement.
“Yes, which it uses to generate hypotheses, gather extensive evidence, and analyze data. But our version employs a cluster of over 200 IBM Power 850 servers for each of which uses an 8.4 GHz POWER7 24-core processor, with four threads per core. In total, the system has 8,460 POWER7 processor threads and 50 terabytes of RAM.”
Kayla scrutinizes the machine herself from an undetected distance as she makes a startling yet horrifying discovery, “something’s wrong.”
“What do you mean?” Ayeka said over communication.
Kayla couldn’t put in words. All she could do is shake her head in disbelief, “This isn’t right. This can’t be right…”
Meanwhile, Jeanne slowly approaches the kneeling mech, marveling at its beauty. She took off one of her gloves and rest her heavily scarred hand on one of the mech’s arms. She was absolutely pleased with the result, “my brother would have loved this. Thank you, Marco. You and your team. You have done your work well.”
Marco, the scientist, nodded, “he always loved remote-control cars and drones. That’s why we wanted to name it Micah-1.”
This made Jeanne laugh a little, “I can tell by the rabbit ears you gave on this thing, and blue has always been his favorite color--”
Suddenly, the security alarm is triggered as the sirens started to blare throughout the laboratory.
“We have to go now!” Marco panicked as he took Jeanne away from the Armory. Reacting to the flight or fight response of the sirens, Kayla took her gun and shot at Jeanne, only missing her left cheek by an inch.

Their cover was blown as the Nether Elite acted. Natalia, Ryoko, and Ayeka came from hiding as they are approached by armored guards.
Natalia’s primary abilities are maintaining and harnessing elemental powers like electricity; she can channel such power through her fingertips. From there, Natalia can focus all her energy on her fist, creating a powerful electric punch or throw electrical projectiles in the form of a ball, which takes up most of her Nether energy. Her fingerless gloves and thigh high stockings might look sexy on her, but in reality, they are also copper woven which helps her greatly channel electricity.
Wasting no time, Natalia used her electrical powers, punching out many guards, sending them flying through the walls or in the air.
Ryoko decided to lend some crowd control as she used her primary ability to use solar light beams. By absorbing solar energy, converting it into kinetic energy and redirect it as a beam of light, Ryoko can manipulate how big or small the solar beam can be by shooting it from her index finger or the palms of her hands.
However, it does have its drawbacks. Since this kind of magical power lies in the ‘forbidden circle,’ it comes at a price. It uses too much of her own energy, and she must replenish this kind of power by being exposed to sunlight. Her nether pool of energy must be compounded by solar radiation in which she heavily relies on.
To work around this weakness, Ryoko wears a pair of Chinese silk fingerless gloves infused with nether enchantments called Raijinshou Shèngguāng. This helps her absorb twice as much solar energy, amplify it efficiently, and redirect the solar energy efficiently.
Ryoko raised her hands and charge up her attack, “TIME MAKE IT RAIN UP IN THIS BITCH!” Shooting two watermelon-sized light balls into the air, she clenched her fist and swung them down as the golden balls exploded, blinding a lost everyone in sight. The blinded armored guards would be pelted by a rainstorm of solar light beams. Unbeknownst to everyone, Micah-1 deflected the attack with its arms, emanating its own protective energy shield.
Landing on the ground with her own two feet, Natalia wasted no time charging her fist with electricity and going after the new mech head-on with a leaping punch. Natalia aimed at the mech’s torso and punched it, sending the mech flying through a wall. Still being cautious, the Nether Elite looked on as Micha-1 was still operational. The mech raised its arm to the intruders and started to charge up his own attack, a negative ion laser.
Acting accordingly, Kayla threw an explosive kunai and canceled the attack. The result was devastating as Micha-1’s arm was blown off.
Joining them on the floor was Kayla as she jumped down off the rafters with her sniper rifle. As the smoke was starting to clear, Micha-1 would retaliate by swinging his remaining arm at the Nether Elite, only hitting Natalia at the process and knocking her out and off the platform.
Immediately Kayla calls for help, “NOEL, WE HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED! COME IN!”

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.

Bear trap (statehumans CalTex)
(This book has nothing to do with furries, otherkins, or irl therianthropes. Both by their own definitions and my own, we have nothing to do with each other. Keep being your weird selves just don't pretend I'm a part of those groups because I wrote this book with animal/human hybrids in it. Any comments trying to talk about furries or otherkins will be deleted because it makes me physically uncomfortable. Therians are ok tho because it's basically the fancy way to say people who have spirit animals)There are two races in this world, humans and therianthropes, which are humans with animal qualities, that can shapeshift into their animal counterpart. The therianthropes, once divided by predator and prey, joined together in hiding after the humans began to hunt therianthropes for sport. California, a young grizzly bear therianthrope, was always curious to see the world beyond the forest he and his people lived within. Texas, a young farmhand, always wanted to catch a therianthrope, believing it would make him the hero of his village after violent massacres and thefts had been performed on it, supposedly by therianthropes. But when these two young men's paths collide, secrets, strange new feelings, and a magical adventure turns everything they thought they knew about the others race upside down.Warnings:- statehumans- countryhumans - the country and statehumans are all kinda just mixed together. There is no obvious separation between state and country, they're all just people - guns- and ships- hunting - idk, vegans?- gay stuff- not super gory, but people do get hurt - maybe death
