《Cross Roads: Wolves of Oleander (Book Three)》Chapter 25

Maria Boutonnière was also known as the Holy Mother that led the Third Revelation was to be known as an extreme religious cult that killed Nether users and Nephalems indiscriminately. Only a few people knew the full story and background of Maria Boutonnière. But what was well known about her is that she is a murderess of many of the Royal Nephalem Order. Some say she killed at least 100 nephalems, but even that is an inflammatory estimation as many killed in her name and in the name of God.
Maria was on stage wearing a casual white dress, giving a speech about family and unity, “Jamais Cascio once wrote, ‘Resilience is all about being able to overcome the unexpected. Sustainability is about survival. The goal of resilience is to thrive.’ When I lost everything, I thought that was it for me. The world can be a cold and ruthless mistress, she said. And I agreed. I couldn’t argue with her. My whole life, I was a punching bag. My mother and others… I was complacent to my surroundings, and when I found the strength to fight back, the world fought harder to put me back down.”
Peering out in the audience, Maria sees and recognizes the four cautious wolf girls. She gives a snarky smile when he sees a teary-eyed Natalia, “I might not look like an intimidating, imposing figure. I am barely five feet tall, no more than a hundred pounds. But never really judge a book by its cover. And that goes hand in hand with one’s beauty.” Maria winks at Nether Elite.
“Oh, you motherfucker…” Ryoko uttered underneath her breath.
“Okay, Natty. That is your queue…” Kayla whispered to Natalia, but she doesn’t respond as tears rolled down her face.
“My number one fan, Suerte, who made us this delicious no-bake cherry cheesecake before we all came here — where are you, sweetie?” Maria beckoned.

Suerte makes herself known as she waves at Maria, then the same fair-skinned wolfdog kemonomimi having waist-length platinum blonde and reddish-brown hair with big red-violet eyes they met weeks earlier, runs on stage and hugs Maria.
Maria then picks her up and addresses the audience, “Proverbs 31:30, Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Now, what does that mean? Beauty fades with age, so if you are more concerned with your outer appearance, you will be unhappy when the wrinkles come, and the number on the scale goes up. In fact, did you know that your body may show the beginning signs of aging as early as age twenty?
“That is why God wants us to ‘fear’ Him. That doesn't mean to be afraid of Him but rather to be in awe of Him and all that He has done. Let me put it to you this way. If you stand two girls next to each other and one is Miss Teen USA whose beauty is limited to physical attraction, and the other young lady is a more average-looking girl who loves the Lord more than anything, she is the more beautiful girl in the eyes of God.”
“Hold up… I know this bitch ain’t talking about us!” Ryoko cursed as the Nether Elite approaches the stage, while many others in the audience are noticing them.
Even now, Maria ignores them as she continues speaking, “Now, this little girl here ties into everything I’m saying to you all. And now, unfortunately, she’s not mine. But she belongs to a couple of people who are truly blessed to have her in their lives. They did not expect this beautiful creature to come into their lives and change everything that was going on. And yes, what her father had planned was… not best for him or anyone… Just like me…” Maria tried to hold back some of the tears as she reminisced about her past, “I had friends… I had a wonderful career… I was chosen by the heavens to fulfill my destiny…

“I loved a man once, despite how I treated him… We even had a kid together… And I gave all of that up… Until one day, that same man found me again, and I knew for certain he was going to end my life. I mean, I wanted him to end my life. But he didn’t… we both have hurt one another for years, and we were both exhausted by our devious behavior. I wish now I could tell him that I was sorry, and I have forgiven what he’d done to me out of retaliation…”
The audience was shocked as they murmured between themselves.
With a deep breath, Maria concluded her story, “Days later, I was met by the Emperor of the Nether himself, and he introduced me to Suerte here. And day by day, I started to see the beauty that was inside her. Afterward, I started to see the world differently! Her strength, her wittiness, and also her courage inspired me to be a better woman reminded me once of my own daughter. In the end, Suerte, you became my best friend!”
The audience rose to her feet and gave a standing ovation to her persuasive speech. So moving and powerful, even Natalia, she started to cry. The rest of the Nether Elite notices this.
Maria notices this too as he acted upon it, as the audience began to wind down, “Sadly, not everyone saw this as a positive. The man that I have grown to love still hates me. The world still hates me, and I’m grateful that they do.” Maria expressing great sorrow as the audience empathized with her.
“I don’t want them to forget what I have done. We should never forget the monsters who walk among us. But nothing lasts forever. Everything changes, and I hope everyone sees the good in me…” Maria even snuggled with Suerte as this made the little wolfdog girl giggle. “Just like I hope everyone sees the good in you one day, Fate.”
This made Natalia shutter as her legs buckled.
Kayla realized right then and there if the shining star of Nether Elite wasn’t going to get things done, then she will, “Oh, for fuck sake!” She yelled while approaching the stage.
“Anderson, don’t!” Ayeka urged, but it was too late.
“MARIA BOUTONNIÈRE, WE HAVE A WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST FOR HIGH TREASON, CONSPIRACY, MURDER, KIDNAPPING, AND CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY!” Kayla yelled, presenting the document.

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

The Dungeon of Evolution
The greatest mage and researcher in the universe, Ian Irwin, known to only his closest friends died at far too young an age. For their own goals and to give the mage another chance at life, the Gods and Goddesses reincarnated him into a dungeon. Most would shudder at the thought, in fact Ian did, but not for the same reasons. The plants, animals, fungi, and monsters that inhabited dungeons fascinated Ian in a way nothing besides his wife had. Ian had studied everything he could about dungeons and now he could be one. Traumatising Content: Besides the purpose of dungeons, the presenting of evil morals as a positive is not present in this novel. Evil morals themselves, however, are present. Combined with the gore tag, there will be imagery present that could be considered traumatising. The absence of the sexual content tag means there will be no scenes of that nature. I, the author, apologize to any previous readers that, due to my previous clarification, read the story with the belief that scenes of disturbing imagery would not be present.

Blair Nys: Blood and Benevolence
Blair is a young man and even of royal heritage. As such his life has followed a strict plan since birth. Only for it to suddenly, in the time span of a finger snipping, change. Connections to another world opened up. Humans with powers made of the wildest imaginations, stepped out of them, calling themselves cultivators. Naturally, earth’s population went into an uproar. One piece of information created an especially great stir. The cultivators were there to pick disciples. Millions rushed to them, and Blair wanted to be one of them. There was just one problem. His lord father was strictly against interaction with those magical beings. He always dreaded a foreign power gaining influence in his court. Well, the old man never changes, and now it was the same as ever. His sister wasn´t even allowed to study abroad. However, all his senses told Blair that the future lay in the cultivator's hands. His plan was to gain knowledge, power, and maybe influence. Then he would return. One night he simply vanished in the darkness, away from his father’s claws. Will he succeed? That is hard to tell. The immortal world is an unforgiving place, even worse than earth. It’s just that Blair doesn’t know that yet. Can he survive there, and gain a footing in the new era of qi and godly hermits? Only time will tell, and Blair has to fight for every minute. Authors note: Give the story a try. It’s my personal blend of qi, cultivation, and struggles of morality and power. If I can deliver on all that is another question, but I will give it my best. As a further note, I am not using any of the usual strict realms and extreme power differences. It’s more about gathering and refining qi. Whoever uses his chances, sneak attacks, intuitions, and skills in a better way wins. However, having more or better qi will help, but I am not at a point where I have written a lot of that, so I might promise too much. Thanks for reading so far and checking my synopsis out, now you might give the story a try. Have fun. The picture is from JCK5D (Pixabay)
