Transcript from a videotape in French, Direction de la Surveillance du territoire.
The french translation team of the Ishtar Diary Translation Program (IDTP) discuss about their future work in the Café de la Paix, Paris, France, 21/07/1996, 21h37 (GMT+2).
AGV = André Guillot-Vaillant, translation team director, Illuminati Order initiate.
MB = Michel Bonnet, IDTP project director, Illuminati Order initiate.
JM = Jean Monnier, AGV personal assistant, Illuminati Order initiate.
[AGV] Michel! Over here!
[MB] Did you wait on me for a long time?
[AGV] No, we just arrived. Your trip went well?
[MB] A living hell! It's a mess in Oslo! Apparently, Her Majesty Freyja is moving to Japan. No one knew how to answer [cough] my questions. I was forced to go through their Grandmaster!
[AGV] So? Does the program still go on?
[MB] Did you take something? Waiter! A dry martini, clean, on the rocks! Yeah, it still goes. Their requirements haven't changed. Everything has to be translated. The only difference is that it won't be with the original. They will make an exact copy and send the manuscript to New York for definitive archiving. If there are any doubts, the Americans allow us to consult it once a year.
[AGV] Shit! They didn't... [many laughs, unintelligible].
[MB] I know, it can't be helped.
[AGV] Why organizing that now?
[MB] Freyja decided. She must have her reasons. Do you think I want to discuss the motives of a lord of the Order?

[Waiter] [muffled] Your martini, sir.
[MB] Anyway, let's talk about the job. How are our guys going to organize themselves?
[AGV] Two teams, one at the Paris Lodge and an other at the Bordeaux Lodge. The Gironde team will deal with the odd-numbered sections and ours with the even-numbered ones. The result will be compiled here, by me. Five years of hard work, more or less. The Reinir language has a special structure, it will probably be necessary to simplify and adapt its wording to French, especially if we have to keep its rather casual tone. Some terms have no known equivalent.
[MB] We have full authority over this. The hierarchy gives you total autonomy. You are the only specialist, you do as you feel!
[AGV] I have... Jean, where are the pages of my excerpt?
[JM] The front pocket, doctor, in the plastic jacket.
[AGV] Ah! Yes, that's right. This diary is unique, it... it has a special importance for me. [unintelligible] see these two lines, with the little symbols and the big ones?
[MB] Yes.
[AGV] The little, that's Reinir language. To put it simply, we are talking about a syllabary having some points in common with Akkadian. We think it could be one of its sources. The characters above, on the other hand, are Atlantean ideograms. They were added a long time afterwards, if we believe the ink isotopic dating. We will have in our hands the only text written simultaneously in Atlantean and Reinir! An opportunity to improve our knowledge of both. Concerning the content, the Great Secret seems to be summarized in its entirety.
[MB] The slightest page must be worth millions on the black market... By the way, are you and your guys aware of the risk? If Her Majesty Ishtar finds out that this program exists, we'll all be killed.

[AGV] Yes, everyone is even thrilled! This chance will not come again.
[MB] Sometimes, it leaves me wondering...
[AGV] About what?
[MB] The way you look at things! You researchers are ready to pledge your life just to read a document...
[AGV] A document that tells the truth, Michel. An important nuance. I, like my colleagues, have spent my life studying for just a small chance to discover a piece of truth. If you offer a physicist a book unifying physics, do you think he won't do everything to consult it?
[MB] Maybe...
[AGV] And yourself, what motivates you, then? You don't take less risks than we do, being the project director.
[MB] Me? I'm motivated by my career! A success for the Order and my chances of obtaining a prestigious position increase! I've never hidden the fact that I'm a careerist, André. As for the risks... let's just say that you will be held 100% responsible in case of trouble.
[AGV] [laughs, extensively] You are a rarity! An honest politician! Ah!
[MB] Out of curiosity, you show me an excerpt here... did you translate it?
[AGV] Yes. Jean, can you bring up my notes?
[JM] One moment... here is your notebook.
[AGV] So, this small paper says: "Greetings to you, mysterious reader! I am Ishtar and... well, 'know what ? Let's forget the formalities! To be honest, I don't know my age. I was here before the founding of Uruk. I'll be there long after your descendants have died. Let's say I'm old, shall we? Well, it doesn't show, because I certainly look something like 17. 'll have to trust me. Ah, ah!
Let's start at the beginning: if the weird ideograms on this document make sense to you, then someone has taught you my mother tongue. Congratulations, I am dealing with a well educated individual! Where are you from? Is there anything interesting going on in your era? Because obviously, a few centuries (millennia, actually) will have passed since this was written, so please excuse my curiosity. Ugh... get real. You know no one is gonna read this thing. What's the point for a goddess to keep a diary?"
[MB] Seriously? This is something that was really written by the Ishtar we know? The one who... fuck! What a personality change in that case...
[AGV] She says it herself, we speak in millennia, Michel, Elohim evolve if they suffer enough. This extract is taken from the first page. A colleague specializing in Atlantean, whom I agree with on this point, thinks that it was intended as a test to train her handwriting. We use it like an unofficial synopsis. A joke between us.
[MB] The kind of thing my daughter would write... Have you eaten? I know it's late, but we could order something...
[AGV] Good idea.
The videotape end at 22h11 (GMT+2), same day.

The Legion of Nothing
Nick Klein is your average high school geek--if you can still count as average when your grandfather is a retired superhero, and you've been trained in the martial arts by his friend, a mysterious, immortal mercenary. After his grandfather dies, Nick inherits the last version of the Rocket suit, powered armor that allows him to shrug off bullets, smash through walls, and manipulate sound. Along with it comes the base of his grandfather's superhero team including the team's jet and trophies from forty years of fighting criminals and aliens. Together, Nick and his friends, descendants of his grandfather's teammates, attempt to bring back a superhero team that was originally formed during World War 2. Along the way they'll face the normal problems of high school (bullies, homework, and dating), and the less normal problems like supervillians and mysteries leftover from their grandparents' past. As a story, it uses the conventions of all eras of comics from the 1940s on, ranging from serious to silly. If you're hoping for a grim and gritty story, this isn't it. The Legion of Nothing first debuted on my website legionofnothing.com in 2007. In that period it's updated more than 900 times, is still running, and has had millions of pageviews. The first two years have been released as an ebook, receiving good reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I hope you'll enjoy it, and that you'll review it and comment. You can also vote for it on Top Web Fiction and rate it on Web Fiction Guide. Member of The Order of Phantasmal Architects.

Ghostified City
‘Ghostified City’ is a post-dystopian sci-fi tale, set in a fading world that might be a future version of ours, running out on autopilot into oblivion. Adaman Yimmand is a simple robofactory operator in The City who's working with robots and machines every day. He doesn’t even realise that he might not have met another actual human being in years. Everything begins when he breaks his routine for once and enters a bar where he meets Evelith. This pesky other person does not let him go after he has had his -rather terrible- beer, because according to her actual humans are much rarer than he’s aware of. And from then on ‘the genie is out of the bottle and won’t get back in’, to use her words: Adaman meets more people, and gradually he has no choice but to accept that the reality of The City is not what he always thought it was, and to face the darkness of a fading humanity on the brink of self-inflicted extinction. Is there any hope left for him, and for his species? I have selected 'sexual content' and 'traumatising content' to be on the safe side, because there is a stripclub-like venue in the background of the story, and an almost-extinct humanity that has institutionalised suicide which might be disturbing to some. Apart from that it's not really a heavy 'adult' story.('Ghostified City' is my first long story in English as opposed to my native language Dutch, and an earlier version was published on my fiction blog 'Oranderra' until I stopped updating. This is a slightly altered version of the first series.)
