《God Particles》Chapter 4

I've played post-apocalyptic games before, but this... This is just sad...
As he stood on top of a ruined five-storey house, Joseph looked over at once lavish city. He could easily picture everyday life in this city. Adults going to work, students going to school and kids playing in the playground. But now... Now that was gone. Instead of adults and students, there were Mutants. There still were kids, to be precise offspring of these Mutants, learning about hunting from their elders.
Even though Joseph has read about them in books, seeing herbivorous Mutants was amazing. In video games, all mutated species were carnivorous, therefore they were hostile to the player. However in real life, things were quite different.
In essence, wildlife in barriers and outside of them was not that much different. To be honest, It was even more interesting here.
Joseph stood there and watched as some kind of canine mutants were chasing some kind of big deer with 4 horns and black fur. He read in the internet that animals that are in packs have somekind of supernatural way. These canines were acting separately, yet somehow they were working together. The pack was trying to lure this deer towards the collapsed alley and they successfully did so. Only thing that Joseph heard was a bleat and after that a gunshot that killed a single canine Mutant.
WHAT?!
Joseph quickly jumped down from the roof vent. He then carefully raised his head. He could kind of control the emission of Particles from his body. He lowered it as much as he could. No one was seen yet. These canines weren't scared because of the recent death of their comrade, they were angry. They turned towards the opposite side of the alley that they were in and started growling angrily. This growling sound was not of a dog or a wolf. It was much more terrifying and somewhat intelligent.
BANG
BANG
2 shots with a slight delay, huh? Someone with Marksman Ability and a Sniper Rifle.
Joseph waited a few more seconds. Canine pack already attacked the Ability User, but Joseph couldn't see anything from his position. He crawled towards the end of the roof and then turned around. He quickly stood up and ran towards the other end. Just before the end, he used his momentum along with this new body and jumped towards the next building. It was seven-storey building, but his new claws dug deep inside the concrete wall. He then used both his upper and lower claws to propel himself even higher, crawling even higher. Eventually, he crawled up on the roof, but to his dismay, even from here he couldn't see them.
"FUCK!" Joseph screamed as some kind of pulse escaped his body and spread for a few hundred meters. Joseph held his head. It hurt as hell.
Just what the fuck was that?! Just like my timestop! And what the fuck did it do?
Joseph wanted to punch a person who did this with him right now, but in a few seconds, he wanted to give them some cookies. All living things half a mile were "seen" by him. Mutants... Mutants... Mutants... Humans! 8 of them!
What is this?! Some kind of biological sonar pulse?
Joseph tried to do the thing again, but his answer was only headache. But he already knew the position of Ability Users. He jumped down from the building and ran through the destroyed shop, right into the alley way and then past some kind of bus stop. The sound of fighting was now heard better.

"Tania! We must fall back and regroup there are too many!" Some guy screamed as he unleashed his vocabulary filled with swear words in spanish.
"We can't! Report said that THAT thing was spotted in this city. If we go back, another breach may happen." A girly voiced answered him. Joseph was kind of disappointed that she didn't say any swear words. Why would she? She sounded completely.
Still need to be careful. I don't think that my looks are sexy enough to be differentiated from other Mutants.
Joseph quietly approached the wall on his left and dug his claws in it, however instead of propeling himself, this time he did it more carefully, digging his claws one at a time in the wall. After he got on the roof, he slowly approached the edge and looked over it. He saw a red haired girl holding a big sniper rifle, shooting masterly at the wave of Canine mutants.
Do these packs have some union between them or some shit? Nonetheless, I need to get a PDA. I don't even know where the barrier is anymo-
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?! LOOK THERE!" Some dark skinned guy shouted as he pointed at Joseph, who in turn mentally cursed himself for his lack of stealth. The girl with a sniper rifle turned her gaze towards Joseph and her eyes looked more surprised than Joseph anticipated them to be.
"Fancy meeting you here!" The girl said as she smiled. Before Joseph could get a chance to ask "Wha?", the sniper rifle that she was holding was now looking at him. Without hesitation, Joseph used his front claws to propel himself backwards, away from their and sniper rifle's field of vision.
Shitshitshit! Just don't jump. In the air she will definitely get me.
"Agility Types! Follow me and pursue that mutant! He is the one that council was searching for over 10 years! We need to catch him ASAP!" Tania screamed as she shot another bullet towards one of the Canine mutants.
Joseph looked back and saw 4 out 8 from that group, including Tania, were now chasing after him. All of them Agility types and Tania with Marksman Ability too. Joseph jumped down in the alley and from there went back inside the same shop from before. He jumped on the ceiling and reinforced his position there with his claws, while waiting for them...
To pass? NO!
To kill? YES!
The storage room that he was in was completely dark, perfectly hiding his pitch black body in it. He imagined that his face without eyes and mouth, they disappeared but to his surprise, his sight didn't. He didn't question that. He had more important matters right now. A few seconds passed and prey was already right below hunter. Someone ordered her to stay in the area and look for anything suspicious. She agreed right away as her other teammates ran in the direction that Joseph would "Most likely" run towards.
4 fingers entered her lower back and erupted right from her stomach, piercing and tearing her guts and womb. She looked down with terror on her face and blood erupting from her mouth. She could only whimper, whimper and nothing more. She was raised up in the air and then smashed back on the ground. She looked up and blank, pitch black face was only thing that she saw before her death.

Strange... It's like I knew how to kill her the most terrifying way.
Joseph crouched down and held her body with his left hand. He then pulled his right arm and freed his hand from her guts. He then approached the wall and brushed his claws against it, cleaning himself. And only then did he realize, what kind of terrible things he has done.
SHIT! Why did I slam her?! Please Mister PDA, Don't be broken!
Fortunately, the PDA was healthier than its owner. Joseph unlocked it with his claws and checked the maps. He was much closer to the Barriers than he thought. A few miles east was the remaining distance.
If I will go nonstop, I will make it in less than 10 minutes probably. That kind of speed that I had before was something, but I felt pretty tired. For some reason, I don't feel tired at all. Well then, Onwa-
Sound of footsteps entering storage room was almost silent until they came right at the doorway. Joseph jumped towards it and raised his right claw, ready to pierce anyone and anything that would get in his way. Turns out, he wasn't ready. A child looked at him with terrified eyes. A child just saw a 2 meters tall creature with featureless face and head. What would be her reaction? That's right!
"KYAAAAAAAA-" She screamed before a gigantic claw covered her mouth and lifted her by her head high in the air. She was wrigling and struggling, hitting the long arm of Joseph.
"Shut up. If you don't want me to kill you, just shut up and don't make a sound okay?" Joseph was always patient towards kids. For some reason, he always felt like they should be treated better than they are. "I'm gonna release you now, but don't run and/or scream, Okay?"
The girl stopped resisting and tried to nod. Joseph understood the gesture and slowly put her down, but still on guard if she would suddenly scream. Then he remembered about scene right behind her and closed her eyes, dragging her out of the storage room. He then released her once again.
"You didn't scream! Good girl! Now tell me, what's your name?"
"M-M-M-M-My na-name I-I-Is M-M-Mary." The girl said with obvious terror in her voice. Her eyes then got wet and she started crying. However, she was crying quietly, without making a single sound. Joseph's cold heart almost melted. No, It actually melted.
"Now listen Mary. I'm not gonna hurt you if you don't hurt me. I'm not a bad guy." Joseph said as he wiped her tears and fixed her white hair that was long enough to reach her knees. "Tell me Mary, How old are you and what are you doing outside the barriers."
"I-I'm 10 and I-I have a P-Powerful ability." Mary said, but much calmer than before. Somehow she actually calmed down and was now wiping her own eyes. "M-Mutants don't touch me. They don't attack me a-and sometimes they're friendly."
Wow. That is quite overpowered ability outside of the barriers. But sending a fucking kid outside, in devastated world, still seems a bit assholish.
"Mary. Even If I don't look like it, I'm actually a human. And I want to go back in the barriers. Do you want to go back too?" Joseph knew that she didn't want to come her. The mutants didn't attack HER, not the team that she was with. Her ability is purely self-oriented. There was no point in sending her out if she didn't have any battle experience.
"Y-Yes. But what's your name?"
"Just call me Big Bro for the time being. Okay?"
"B-Big Bro..." She slightly blushed while saying it out loud. "But, how will we get out? Lady Tania wants to catch you."
"Hehe. Don't worry she's not anywhere near, I checked. Can you turn away for a minute please?" Joseph asked as he tried his best to make a smile emoticon on his face. And by the looks of Mary, he kinda succeeded.
As soon as she turned away, Joseph got on all fours.
KKKKKKKKHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
The God Particles that were previously kept in resting state, were now moving violently. They were spreading further and further with each second. Unfortunately, because of her curiosity Mary turned around and saw a terrific scene. Her new companion's body was emitting some kind of black material and changing with each second. His face got longer as well as his torso. His knees were bent backwards now and his arms changed to some degree too. His butt now grew a long tail that was engulfed in the same dark as his whole body. Now he was actually looking like a wolf. A big black wolf.
Man, this new body can do weird things... Wait a minute...
"I told you NOT to turn around right?" Joseph said in a disappointed tone.
"S-S-Sorry!" Mary said as she covered her face with her hands and quickly turned around.
"Haaaa. Just hop on and hold tight."
"O-Okay!" She said without hesitation as she jumped on his back. She didn't know herself, why she did it like she trusted him. She was never wrong with her guesses. She always knew who was nice and who was not. She placed her hands on his back in search of fur, but she couldn't find anything. Instead, her hands were swallowed by something along with her legs, and she was tightly secured on Joseph's back.
"Close your eyes and stay down. I'm really fast, too fast for you."
"Okay, big bro!"
Joseph used his long legs to push himself and then started running. Killing the big Mutated Gray Wolf a few hours ago felt weird. It was as if the wolf's memories and body structure was downloaded into his brain and he was able to reconstruct its body almost perfectly. When they exited the city, Kari thought about possibility of leading his normal life again.
My plan was to join the academy to gain access to outside world. But now that I can have that, why am I coming back? And will humanity even accept me for who I am? Of course not. I need to research these God Particles ASAP.
"C-C-Can we go A-A-A B-Bit sloweeeeer?"
And leave this kid to her parents too.

Life is unpredictable. If you turn left, you could meet the love of your life. Turn right, and be a millionaire. And if you think you are clever, go straight, only to be killed by brick-kun and reincarnate as an Heir to a Duchy. Which is fine as long you ignore plots, rivalries and struggles for power, but even if the tales of the Golden Crown are so many as stars in the sky, they all weigh the same in the end. Follow with me the story of Leonidas, as he tries to find his way in a Kingdom at the verge of a civil war and to find out, what the rules of his rule should be, so that his own crown would not crush him to death. And of course, conquest and plots! And action! I hope… Hi! The story is a little bit inspired by CK2 and Stronghold and serves two purposes: to better my writing skills and to have fun! So, I welcome grammatical criticism and pointing out plot holes, as I would want the story to make sense for my readers too! Have fun! 31.05.2022. Currently in Hiatus, as I hit a wall in writing conversations. So I will try something else and come back later to this story.
