《Questers, a litRPG tale》Chapter 5

Class 9B
"Look at that armour. It must be made from delerium." Dona whispered to Maya who was sitting right across her. While Jim and Dona were excited over the melee attackers class, Maya and Sam got bored exceedingly fast. Justin quickly took down a notepad scribbling down whatever the trainer said.
"So, the best way to avoid a fatal strike is to parry the incoming attack. Trying to avoid life-threatening swings towards you would be something the monsters expect. So train yourself hard to avoid the impulse to dodge all incoming attacks. Never worry and try to hoard life-saving items. They are meant to be used. Use them." The woman who was over two meters tall with bulging from every corner of her body taught them the few mistakes that regular people make during their first dungeon runs.
She walked closer to the front and said, "Do not forget, as a tank, your job is not to prevent every attack from passing through. You just have to protect the healers and tie the boss down. If a damage dealer was too stupid and messed up your flow, make sure to let that idiot go and die. It's not your job to care for the whole team. A warrior who tries to protect everyone will always have a tragic ending."
Pacing towards the back of the class she continues. "Never compensate on the armour or weapons. As a melee job holder, they are your life and soul. Too many have died trying to save themselves some extra cents by cutting edges. Remember a good blacksmith is the best friend you can get."
She took out a piece of metal from her inventory space. "This is copper ore. It might look strong but they aren't. The most it can sustain is a few hits from a tier 1 monster. Knowing what to wear is important as well. A plate armour made of copper or bronze can never match armour made from iron or steel." She proceeded to take out the iron ore and then showed it to everyone. Then she placed both of them back in her inventory.

"Do not forget, you lot will be initialized in a week. As a tier, 0 party none of you will face any real danger. Do not worry. The first few trails will be for you to get familiar with the process. None of you will face anything exceeding your capabilities."
She slowly approached the front again. "From tomorrow our class will be at the training ground 32. I expect everyone to be there on time. Your timetable is already etched into the ID cards. Talking about fighting doesn't make any sense anyway."
"Did Peter start taking magic circle structures and construction?" She asked the one sitting at the very front. "Yes, Ma'am." He immediately responded.
"I know my class will feel boring to you magic casters out there. Never forget, there are instances where your magic will not be of much use. If you were to face a monster with magic negation abilities all you casters would be able to do is pray you die in one hit. Bleeding to death is torture." She took another step back onto the stage.
"That being said, the clones that you will be using to enter the trial dungeons are still in the making. So make sure you head to the fitting room and check out your clones this afternoon. The sooner the better."
"Before I leave for lunch, I would like to give you two tasks. One, befriend a decent smithing apprentice. This might be a lot harder than you think. They are after all an extremely valuable asset. The second is easier. Try and purchase a few pieces of body armour."
"You casters should visit the casters pavilion. Although you can't wear heavy armour, it's still better to train wearing some just to get the feel of it." She looked at her watch checking out the time. "Well, it's just a few minutes anyway. Don't make a fuss. Sit and read some circle construction or something." And she walked out with late heavy steps.

"Phew, scary." Muttered Maya letting out some breath. "What happened to her?" Maya turned to Dona who was the expert here when it came to warriors.
"I think she gained a rare job. It involved some structural changes. If the stories are right she had to give up her old body to a demon in exchange for the powerful body." Dona paused trying to remember.
After waiting for a few seconds Sam filled in for her. "Unlike Serina, she didn't have a choice. Lady Serina was rewarded by the system for excellent performance in a demon tier event. She used to be a battle priest before she changed and became an elven overseer."
"Although the effects are the same, Selina had a choice unlike Lady Violet. See, Lady Violet had a husband who was also her priest. During one of her quest missions, she lost the ability to move as she was silenced by a monster. The monster immediately targeted her husband John but Violet was unable to do anything to help."
"It is said that a demon took pity on her and offered her a body that could never be harmed. The demonic energy mutated her body into one that was similar to that of a demon. In the end, she was able to save her husband but that guy abandoned her soon." Sam paused to catch his breath. "It is said that she is the closest to an immortal that you could find amongst the tier 5. It's a pity she abandoned being a quester."
"What happened to the husband?" Dona asked, stunned by the story.
"I think he was killed during another quest mission. Funny enough it was rumoured that his new wife chose to let him die when he screwed up during the quest. Apparently, there was another more sensible healer in the party."
The three friends laughed loudly while Justin kept looking at Sam in awe.
The bell struck letting them know it was time for the afternoon break.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Curiosity Killed The Imp
A/N: On hiatus (higher priority). The story is planned out but I need to do some rewriting for clarity and cohesiviness. Still very interested in the story though. Aeris is a place of endless conflict. Bloody evolution is the way forward, and the closed fist is the path given. Life is a luxury granted only to the strong. In a tiny corner, at the edge of a volcanic land, is born an imp. An imp no different from any other save one thing. An anomaly in its code. A blip in its creation. For unlike other imps, this one was born…curious. Book Cover by Betty Elgyn: https://www.deviantart.com/bettyelgyn

Recovery: Ignis
My Name is Keiren. Keiren Ignis. At least that was what IT told me. Now all I have to do is figure out everything else. No simple task when you're an amnesiac. Honestly, why do I know these words and what they mean, but I have no idea who or even what I am. Except for what IT told me. IT is whatever is causing the wierd pop-up screens that appear in my vision when I think about certain things. Seems like I'm going to have to play by ITs rules until I get a better understanding of everything else. This is my first attempt at writing anything. To be honest I'm not 100% sure as to what direction this will take. GLHF It became sci-fi. There will probably be a romantic subplot at some point. There will be some implied sexual content, but nothing more explicit than kissing will be written. Will try to release at least one chapter a week, but there could be none, or possibly 3 or 4.
