《Immutable》Chapter 3

As he goes to the campus to begin his first class, he cannot help but feel excited. Here he is again, learning something new. After living for so long, and experiencing so many things, it is hard to find new stuff to learn and new knowledge to dive into.
But then again, people are always discovering things that differ from what they "knew" to be true.
Just like when he was a tribesman at the beginning of this journey, he knew that nature was comprised of spirits, and they controlled the weather, the animals, and the plants. Now, after many iterations of that same idea, gods, then in some places, a single God.
And then, there are the people that have used science to unlock the mysteries that for most of human history were attributed to one superstition or the other.
Aside from the obvious anomaly that was his life, Jeremy had never seen any evidence of magic or gods that can explain his current condition. So now that science is advancing faster than ever before.
It is a suitable time to get into it, and figure out just what the hell happened to him so long ago. All this he was thinking as he walked into his first class.
Hours later, he is going into his first art class. He meets Genie in the hallway. “Hello!” she says with a little wave.
“Hey,” he says with a smile.
“How has your first day of classes been?” She asks.
“It was good. I am really going to enjoy this subject. It seems interesting so far,” he says, his eyes lighting up, thinking about the future.
“Thats good. It is the same with me. Between my experience working with your uncle and what I have seen in the introduction to the classes I am taking, I think I will be very happy with this academic endeavor.”

“‘Academic Endevour’ huh? Big words.”
“Sure, we are in the depths of academia now, don’t you know?” she says with a little giggle.
“Indubitably,” he says in a serious voice.
Afterward they enter the classroom while chatting. As they sit down together the teacher introduces herself.
“Hello class, I am Professor Rainey, and I will be your Art History professor. You may call me Professor, Professor Rainey, or Ms. Rainey. Today we will go through the introduction....”
3 years after starting in the physics program, Jeremy pulled some strings, and greased a few wheels to get an internship at the Large Hadron Collider. He then started doing research along with all the others.
After about 6 months or so, he was using his rare time working at the collider to do his experiments. As he powered up the machine, he started to feel weird, like the air was getting heavy.
It was like a thunderstorm was brewing. Just as he thought that it was like the incident all those years ago, there was a bang and a flash. It was very reminiscent of the occurrence of his life changing transformation.
As he slowly regained consciousness, there was a ding. Then a transparent blue box appeared in his vision.
“Attention population of Earth. We have detected a spike in the area that your planet resides, and after investigating, found that somewhere on your planet there was a collapse in the fabric of space-time.
“Due to your species low understanding of the physics involved, we have decided to induct your planet into the galactic System, to prevent further disruption to the fabric of space-time.
“Once this announcement is over, everyone will be provided more information through the system. Thank you.”
“Um, what?!” he yells. It had been so long since he was so surprised, he did not know how to handle it. His brain stopped functioning for a second.

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!

What Was Lost Outside Time
What happens to a mind, subjected to an infinite span of time? What remains, when it is taken out again? This is the story of an individual reborn after such time has passed that nothing remains of what it was; an individual who must learn once again what it is to be, beginning with awareness of the idea of awareness, and growing from there; from awareness of self, to awareness of others, to awareness of society, and on. This is the story of a mind; growing, learning, adapting, and becoming more. -- Currently the first three chapters are - well, kind of experimental. I both like and hate these; they were a pain to write, and I'm told by at least one person that they're painful to get through, but I think something like them is necessary to set one of the basic ideas about the way the story is written. It gets slightly more normal after that, the first arc of the story is rather "battle school", and I think I may need to go back and edit it - the characterization didn't end up working out as well as I had originally hoped, unfortunately, and ended up rather weak to my eye. I may go back and add a sub-plot or two, depending on how well I can handle the intended perspective shift of the second arc. -- Currently on hiatus, in case that wasn't obvious. I'm debating between rewriting large portions of what I've already written, and just finishing out the story, but either way, I don't actually have a clear idea of what I want to do right now. If I'm still feeling the same way in a few months I'll put a chapter up explaining where the story was going, maybe, so the people who have enjoyed it can know where the story was intended to go, and close this out.
