《Another world? Some weird magic? Sure.》16th Day: Stealing from the Royal Vault

Its a strange thing, this world. No, not exactly the world but its naming sense.
WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THOSE RIDICULOUSLY LONG NAMES!?
Each and every person whose name I came to know was as hard to pronounce as a baby trying to say Thiruvananthapuram, and that was an actual place in my previous world. Its in India if I remember correcly, but who cares!? The people in this world are plain crazy!
*Sigh*
Lets move on.
So another thing I found out, I can't use my powers to travel back to my home world. Oh well, not like I cared much anyway. My life there was worthless, without a job, without a girlfriend and barely surviving by on the money of my parents, which, by the way I loathed to take, for all the taunts I had to bear for it. But now, I am FREE! And with such an amazing power to boot.
Only, its a little hard to get used to. It was only recently, that I almost got half my ear cut while using my power to listen in on other people's conversations. And as it turns out, its incredibly easy to use my power for spying. Opening a small Gate near my ear and another close to another person, I can hear practically everything. Seeing, though posed a bit of a problem as I needed a better angle for it and if not careful, the other party will notice. As it turns out, the solution was easy, toooooooooooo easy! I can now practically open a Gate in front of a person's face and they wouldn't realise!
So what I do is open the Gate normally, one in front of me and the other where I want to see. And now, over the other Gate, I open a pair of Gate with minimun distance covering it. So now, unless a physical object were to pass through and get chopped, the person has no way of knowing that there's something there.
If you want another imagination session, it is something like this. Draw 3 lines extremely thin and bring them closer till they look like a single one. Now the line in the middle is the Gate that connects to my view. The other two on either side are connected to each other thus giving vision in the opposite direction and not of what lies between. And like I originally discovered, the back of the Gates is see-through thus allowing ME perfect vision.

This also makes new areas available to me for opening Gates. Like I found out, I can't open a gate to a place I have never seen or been to. So, using my earlier 'seeing' power, I can go through more and more area easily and thus open Gates there and the process continues.
Thus today, I'm using my powers for a very covert operation. Sitting in a private room of an inn, I have five Gates opened in front of me, each one providing me a view of a different route in the royal palace. Looking for Gold in a place as humongous as this is a real pain in the ass. Oh right, the currency of this world is Gold, Silver and Copper coins, with hundred of the lower amounting to a single coin of the immediate upper currency. That is, 1 Silver = 100 Copper and same when you go down from Gold to Silver. So when I say I'm looking for gold, I mean it literally.
I was able to earn a few copper and silver here and there from petty thieving but with more confidence in my abilities, I decided it was time to graduate from a life of poverty and turn to the bigger prize: The Royal Treasury.
In case you're wondering about my morals, I ate them. Living in a new world is not the most... fulfilling.. in the start. I starved the entire first day and have been through the experience of numerous muggings, even though I had no money. The only good thing was I could easily escape with my power.
Also, from what I hear(spy), the king is a not the most dedicated to his subjects. Thus, I've decided to take his money and distribute it in the hands of the poor: me.
Phew, back to my mission. As I said, its a real pain in the ass to make my way around the castle. And its not like I can ask someone the way. Also, going across closed doors isn't possible for me, so there's a lot of rooms I've missed checking. But my guess was that the Royal Treasure would be worthy of its name and I should be able to recognize it from the door itself. Only, I hadn't had any such luck. Also, I had no clue how buildings like these were intended to be made, so even starting to look was a headache.

I've been going at this for an hour and the only place I found close to my descriptions of the Treasury door was the King's bedroom. The King wasn't there but his wives were. And yes, its plural. The king has 8 wives and dozens of mistresses. I didn't see all the wives there but the 5 that I did, were extremely beautiful. Well, extreme bitches too, but I've learned to ignore.
I had now explored all over the upper castle and what was left was the dungeon-ary areas, unless of coarse, the Treasury was in a more normal room which I didn't care to check.
My search was going incredibly fast but even then the time it was taking was long. Not having to actually walk down the long hallways and having view of multiple routes at the same time was certainly a huge benefit.
In the dungeon, I found something that I can only call repulsive. Prisoners were kept there in disgusting filth, without clothes and beaten. I happened to witness the first hand beating of a female bunny girl(demihumans exist, surprise?). She wailed and begged for mercy as the prison guard smacked and had his way with her. What was worse, were the rest of the prison guards were the same. There were many cells keeping female prisoners that were currently occupied as such. It looked like I came at the time of their regular 'meal'.
For a moment, there was a feeling of pity and the urge for rescue but I successfully suppressed it. I had neither the incentive nor the resources to afford such a large scale rescue.
Holding back that bitter taste in my mouth, I retraced my path. There was obviously no Treasure here.
I made my way back and arrived at the throne room and waited. I don't know what I was waiting for, maybe some sort of idea or some inspiration. And I did, in fact have one right that moment. A man seemed to come into the throne room with a few women bound in chains. It was then that I decided to open a gate for hearing.
They didn't seem to converse much but a single phrase caught my attention- "..replenishing the stock...". It was obvious what sort of 'stock' it was from the looks of it.
And since there was a purchase, there has to be a payment, doesn't it?
The King whispered something to the person next to him which I missed. I didn't expect the king to do that so I hadn't opened a gate close enough to listen. But I diligently followed the attendant person whom the king sent. And there IT was. That mountain of Gold, THE ROYAL TREASURY.
When the attendant had gone in into the Treasury, I caught a glimpse of the inside. And a glimpse was all I needed. Even though there were a dozen or so guards outside, once I had seen the inside, there was no stopping me.
Right as the attendant came back out, I decided to carry out my duty. I first opened a small gate into the Treasury to make sure it was safe. Needless to say, I made a fool of myself as I couldn't see a single thing in the pitch darkness. As it turns out, they don't put windows in the walls of the Treasury, which was kind of obvious actually, when you consider the easy access for thieves. I decided to take a risk and go in with an oil lamp.
And as I went in,
"What..the..actual....fuck..."
Astonished is too light of a word to describe my feeling when I looked up. The mountain of gold seemed to go on forever! Even though the room had turned somewhat bright with the Gold reflecting the light of the oil lamp, but even then I couldn't see the top.
I had actually prepared a cave beforehand where I was secretly going to dump all the gold. But now I was having doubts whether a single cave was enough. Moreover, to move this quantity over will takes weeks, if not months even with my power of the gates. This was because of the restriction of not being able to open a gate where a solid exists(or where 2 are in contact). So I couldn't just open a gate over the ground and let the mountain fall in. I would have to open a gate like a basket and put in the stuff myself and that limited it to how much I could carry at a time and how long I could keep it up. There was just no way I could do this by myself.
Looks like I found the resources AND the incentive to free the prisoners.

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’

Dauntless: Origins
Snow white hair, blue eyes, pale. Devil, monster, mutt, failure. This story follows one Tyr Faeron, crown prince, heir primus and mass murderer. A wrathful, angry, and lost young man that has made it his goal to hunt down the men that killed his mother - and he is on the cusp of finishing the promise he'd made before her cairn stones so many years ago. On the surface he is duplicitous, whimsical, and base of cunning - but within the depths beyond the many masks he wears, something is waiting. Waiting for an end, the end he'd come to long for, whether it be to himself or any possible threats in his vicinity. After that long labor of vengeance is completed... Nobody knows, not even him - an arrogant and otherwise solitary individual with nothing in the way of friends - only the brothers of the blackguard who follow him through life as he pursues this mission. He was born a prince, but he'd be called a disappointment - failing to manifest the great power that he was born to before being summarily discarded by his father, a 250 year old 'primus'. That word again... Men who can shatter mountains and level cities, that's what he was supposed to be. Some call them demi-gods, all Tyr sees is a poor excuse for a parent. Time had made him bitter, cruel, and arguably psychotic - seeing only enemies wherever he looks. They'd come for him, too, one day - to wipe the slate clean and make room for another - and it's his conviction to ensure that he dies while taking as many of those rats with him. This is a story about finding acceptance, growth, and understanding - from the point of view of a cold and brutal individual who wears many masks. Of someone who was born to be the greatest emperor the eastern continent has ever seen - but he failed in that. Strong, yes, but only in the context of a man - Tyr's magic is weak. His convictions are weak. He has been made a beast of instinct by loss and a constant confronting of his own impotency in the face of his father. A mythos that stretches across planes, of magic, a pantheon of cruel gods. Of someone who's dedicated his entire mind to the art of killing a man, and none to living a normal childhood or coming to understand friendship, empathy, or compassion. The first five years of his life a mystery, a hole none have ever been willing to fill, leaving him warped and twisted. His formative years gone and what must've been most of his humanity along with it. Now 17, he is on the cusp of leaving the city he'd never been permitted to leave for what might be the first time in his life. Always searching, though he won't know what for, for some time. An episodic that follows experience and symbolism rather than a never ending series of battles - where the conflict lay in constantly searching for wholeness in lieu of great villains or heroes. This is where it all started, the origin, the tale told a million times - and yet it hadn't been, 'reality' is tricky like that. The greatest lie ever told by the tongue that speaks is that any of this was real at all.
