《Devour》Chapter 31: Requiem of Soul

"Jio, G-O, Jio," Lala calls Jio as she pulls his shirt.
"Yes?" Jio said.
"How you touch, the lightning and pire?" Lala asks.
"Do you want me to teach you?" Jio asks Lala, and a ball of fire appears on Jio's hand.
"Yessss! Pwease!" Lala happily let out.
Jio teaches Lala simple magic or how to control energy, and carelessness means destruction. He trains day and night with his father, Mr. De Vil, and can be considered a genius at a very young age. Anyone in this world can control the energy around them and create something in thin air. If two magicians were to fight, the person who can control magic in large quantity would win.
"For example. If I can control five stones, and you can only control three stones," Jio said.
"Otay?" Lala let out and pays more attention to Jio.
"I would throw five stones at once, and you can only take out three stones while the remaining two will hit you," Jio explains.
"I see, I see," Lala nods like she understands everything.
"That's the basic, but few magicians can control energy to the point that you can't counter control the energy, leaving you to avoid such spell or die," Jio states, looking at Lala, trying her hard to understand everything.
After teaching Lala magic, Jio put Lala to bed since they still need to travel closer to the Holy Ground.
Holy Ground: The Blood Moon Cult's main altar is a city with a high population density and cultural diversity until the cult occupies the city and converts everyone to worship the Dark One.
Jio and Lala didn't go straight to the Holy Ground but visits the villages, towns, and cities around it, waiting for the main force to arrive to take Holy Ground down along with the Dark One and its followers.
By the time Jio and Lala finished visiting places around the Holy Ground, they saw the allied force camps. Jio recognizes the different Sect flags on top of each tent as they ripple through the air.
"Who goes there?" The two guards shout to Jio with his mask and realize that The Reaper is in front of them.
"The Reaper, I'm looking for Dino Strong from Blood Tribe," Jio demands.
Everyone knows about The Reaper and the impossible feat he overcomes. Masters, who are known by many and a real problem in battle, died in his hand. Some say that he got lucky, while some say that he defeated his enemies by surprise.
Jio gives the fake identification card that the school made for him to the guard, and the guards let them both in as they point where Dino's tent is located. Walking inside the compound, everyone focuses on Jio's direction and appreciates all the war efforts he contributes. The mask Jio wears is also the symbol that few soldiers put on their uniforms after witnessing his might.
As soon as Jio enters the tent, he saw Mickey besides Aera, Dino looking at the war table, Kiba sleeping in the corner, and Cloud looking for snacks in the food cabinet.

"How's my Brothers and Sister!" Jio shouts while he put his mask back to his ring.
"Long time no see 'The Reaper,'" Dino let out and tries to greet their brother.
They know who "The Reaper" was thanks to Cloud sharing Jio's whereabouts.
"The W-r-reaper?" A little girl slowly showed up herself on Jio's left shoulder and protests, "He's my Noble Steed!"
"Is that... Your kid?" Aera cautiously asks.
"NO! I'm Jio's p-future wife!" Lala announces as she pulls Jio's hair.
"She's Lala, not her real name since it's a secret like what she told me," Jio let out and puts Lala down to properly introduces herself.
"Brother Jio, don't tell me you abandoned all those beautiful woman's matured bodies around the world and switched to Loli?" Mickey ask while Aera take out a bamboo cane with engraving stating *Mickey's friend Stick*
Cloud talks to Lala to play while the rest talks about the enemy and the Dark One's revival.
"We might be in trouble," Jio let out as he looks at everyone seriously.
"How so?" Dino asks with concern on his face.
"The High Priest of Blood Moon Cult is trying to free the Dark One from Lala's master," Jio replies.
Everyone looks at Lala playing with Cloud in the corner and looks back to Jio to learn more about Lala's master.
"You see, Lala is not a kid nor a human but a Gecko monster. When we're traveling together, a Jestterfly stung her and lost her memory. The cult is planning something big, so we better prepare, and someone needs to talk to the General to warns him about the Dark One since it's real!" Jio explains with worried expressions and lets out, "I believe what Bm told me."
Everyone nods and starts to proceed accordingly since they believe Jio's words.
In the morning, Mickey went to see his brother Jio and saw him sleeping beside a girl with a beautiful curve by looking at the blanket comforting the two. He slowly steps back out and is happy for his brother.
*I knew that you're a man of culture, Brother!* Mickey thought with the utmost respect to Jio.
As soon as Jio wakes up in the morning, he was happy to see Bm back as she wakes up hugging Jio's warm body.
"I'm happy you're back," Jio let out with a smile.
"I enjoy you taking care of Lala and the night," Bm said as she kisses Jio's cheek.
"My question right now is why your hair turns to pastel purple?" Jio let out.
"My hair changed color because of the Jestterfly," Bm answers.
"I see, I like... Love your new hair, but we need to get ready, and we need information about your master," Jio said.
"Right," Bm replies.
Jio and Bm change and get ready; as they walk out and go straight to Dino's tent. Without the mask, Jio looks like a regular soldier, and everyone checks his identification card to make sure he's not a spy. People approach Jio to see the mysterious girl beside him with her long pastel purple hair, amazing matured body, sharp and defined facial features, especially her eyes and brows like she's looking inside their soul since she covers her face with a silk veil.

The veil gives Bm this mysterious and intelligent aura while everyone fantasizes about her appearance without the cover.
Outside, Aera greets Jio and looks at Bm, "Where's Lala, and who are you?"
"Her name is Bm... A name I made up, and she's also the kid Lala, which another name I made up for her," Jio said to Aera.
"Hello Bm," Aera said as she looks at her from head to toe.
"Hi, Good morning. You look prettier than the stories I heard during my travels," Bm let out as she walks beside Aera.
"Oh! Thank you!" Aera replies, and they start talking. (Girl stuff)
Jio looks at the two and decides to go inside, leaving the two alone. He thinks it's better not to know what the two are talking about and not knowing something sometimes is for the best.
Everyone waited for the girls and looks at Bm as soon as she enters, waiting for her to speak about the Dark One.
"Three years ago, my master disappeared and told me about the Dark one as he showed me the demonic corruption around his body," Bm sadly let out and continues, "He told me that he received the curse from his master like how his master received the curse from the hero who defeated the Dark One."
Bm starts to feel sad and useless knowing that she should have taken the curse from her master, but he disappeared without her knowing.
"I see; he might be looking for something or someone to cure him," Aera let out, trying to cheer Bm.
"Only a Grand Magus rank magician can save or control the demonic energy around his body, so he already removed that option," Bm answers and implies, "The Blood Moon Cult might have abducted my master to remove the seal and release the Dark One."
As schedule, everyone heads out to the force they're assigned to take charge of since everyone acknowledges their strength.
Dino and Kiba command the vanguard. With Dino's blood ability, he can stay lower fighting, and Kiba's soul weapon can destroy groups of people with one sway of his sword.
Cloud commands the artillery force he created based on weaponry from his old world, like mortars and cannons. In this world, they utilized magicians to cast large and powerful spells but requires time and magic resources. With artillery, the magicians can conserve magic resources and can support the troops effectively.
Aera and Mickey command the cavalry force to control the battlefield, and they are only qualified to take charge since the couple is cunning and unpredictable.
It takes the armed forced a whole day to march to the Holy Ground, and as soon as the artilleries are on weaponry range, Cloud orders to load and fire. Five magicians gather on one cannon and pour energy into it as it shoots a cannonball with force to destroy the city's great wall. Beautiful lights come out of the mortars, and the projectiles whistle as they hit the shield protecting the city.
The Blood Moons Cult members are immediately traumatized by the cannons' power and the raining projectiles from the mortars; it's a matter of time before the magicians can not support or hold the shield. They thought they could hold the city's wall and shield, but the cannonball keeps making a hole in the wall and kills the magicians in the process.
Everyone can not believe what they saw, and anyone smart enough already knows who won this war while the rest continue to believe in their God, the Dark One.
The High Priest releases demonic energy on the main altar on top of a pile of soulless bodies and starts taking everyone's soul around him. When the leader of the Nether Sect investigates, he saw the High Priest pulling out one of the Nether Sect members' souls.
"What's the meaning of this, High Priest," The Nether Sect Leader demands as he takes his weapon out.
"I have many names, and today, EVERYONE WILL FEAR ME!" The High Priest announces and kills the Nether Sect, and the people who witness the High Priest taking the Sect leader's soul run, but their soul is taken away from their body as it drops.
In order for any magician to control energy or magic around them, they must know how to feel or sense it in the first place.
While everyone fights each other to the death, Jio saw the High Priest with a mask floating on top of the Holy Ground and laughing maliciously. Jio wanted to charge towards the High Priest, but he sensed something wrong and ordered everyone to retreat.
Fluctuating energy starts to condense from the High Priest's body, and a massive explosion of soul and demonic energy destroy everything on the path of raging souls, and those who get caught by the blast dies. After a few seconds, all shrieking souls look in distress and start to get sucked by the High Priest even though they try to escape his grasp.
Everyone in the Holy Ground died, and the High Priest takes their souls back to his body.
Thanks to Bm and Jio's improved eye sights, they can see the High Priest's face, and Bm can't believe the real identity of the High Priest.
"Master!" She let out and dashes towards the Holy Ground, and when Jio notices Bm's behavior, he follows her without a second thought.

The Madec Legacy
The dawn of Emotion Based A.I.s is here, John is the fifth test subject to have an AI implemented in his brain, and so far the first one to survive. Blinded by the dream of immortality, the researchers push the tests to inhumane standards. John is obligated to take part in sessions of torture designed to test the limits of the AI influence over the physical and mental health. What was supposed to be a new beginning in life turns into living hell. An (un)lucky twist ends his life. John then reincarnates with his AI in a new world where a System influences the interaction between Magic and Matter. With seemingly limitless potential and a game-like system influencing the world, the hero sets on his journey. --AUTHOR NOTE, PLEASE READ-- I will state here my promises to you, potential reader: 1. No harem! I don't trust myself to make a harem feel natural or healthy, I never met any person who has a personality that can adapt and live in a harem for reasons that are not monetary, so I can't draw inspiration from real life. Sorry!; 2. The enemies will not be bland and illogically mean. Some may feel like that at first, but I will take great care in fleshing them out, trust me. You may end up hating some, but you won't be able to deny that they had their reasons for what they did; 3. I am using a paid (and expensive) automated editor tool, and I take longer to write because I take my time in editing the stuff. I am aiming to improve and I will not shy away from constructive criticism, nor take offense for no reason; 4. Characters will die and will suffer, some will get over the tragedies and improve, others will not be as resilient. 5. This novel has a lot of ground to cover, it is neither a short story, a manual on crafting, or the script of some action scene. There will be both time skips and oversimplifications of some actions for the sake of moving the story forward. Time skips will be more prominent in the first 30 chapters. I will describe crafting processes and fights with more detail if they are essential for the chapter; 6. If I took my time describing something, it's because it is important. I hate novels that waste time describing useless stuff. If you skim over something, the chances are that something in the future will not make sense. I am an adept of "Chekhov's gun" principle; 7. I already have 31k words on my auxiliary documents, I have a plan for the story, and I will not be making changes even if someone ends up noticing some foreshadowing and figures out what will happen. The story comes first. 8. I have a wife, a job that demands 9h every day and courses related to my job (lawyer) three days of the week, it's unlikely that I will be able to do mass releases at all. I will have a healthy amount of chapters to be able to post at least 1 chapter every day continually. Don't worry. 9. I will read all the comments. I will listen to all you have to say and will try my best to accommodate demands as long as they do not hamper the path I prepared. 10. There is an arc that spans the entire novel. Each volume will be an arc in itself while progressing a little bit of the main arc. Every arc will have one or more main antagonists. I think that's it! Thank you for reading it all. Have an awesome time reading my first novel!!

After the End: Serenity
We all want to believe we are heroes of our own story - unless we want to be the villain, of course. At the end of everything, the Final Reaper decided he hadn’t been a hero. Driven by a desire to right the wrongs he was subjected to, he killed everyone who wronged him or his people - which turned out to be everyone that wasn’t killed by someone else first. He'd won - but it was a hollow victory. Eventually, Order’s Voice found a way out. If the only existing being would agree to give up most of his power, the Voice could reset the multiverse to an earlier time with a few minor changes. Of course, the Voice couldn't ask it that way. It could only ask if the Final Reaper was willing to start over from when Earth was first brought into Order. It was an easy decision, and yet it wasn’t. Was he willing to go through eons of pain again to not be alone? Yes. In a heartbeat. Not that his heart beat anymore. Now it would. Perhaps he could even be a hero, this time. When he landed in his old body - more or less - on Earth, the Final Reaper once again became Thomas. He was both and neither. He needed a new name for a new life. Serenity. ------------------------------------------ While this is technically a System Apocalypse story, it's a System Apocalypse that is designed to have a large percentage of the population survive and prosper. There are a lot of problems that come with the appearance of the Voice, and it's entirely possible to lose. Earth has some special opportunities, but also special challenges. The first time around, Earth won the first round and lost the second. Serenity has ten years from when the Voice arrives to prevent that from happening. It will be a group effort; Serenity can't win alone - which is difficult for someone who's been alone for as long as he has. Of course, that's only his second priority. ------------------------------------------- Updates Daily A note on the nonhuman lead tag: He isn't human, and hasn't been human for a very, very long time (or maybe not long at all, depending on how you count it). He still thinks of himself as human, either way. The content warnings are mostly to give me room to write; this fiction is not intended to be edgy, but once in a while a character will swear or someone will get seriously injured. The cover image is a Chandra/Hubble composite image of VV 340 / Arp 302 / UGC 9618. While we're not going to space itself any time soon in the story, people from elsewhere are coming to Earth and Serenity will visit other planets. Plus, I like space imagery.
