These words appear in the top of my vision, slightly startling me, as it’s one of the first times something like this has appeared. My head starts to hurt immensely, like a really bad headache. After the pain passes, I feel knowledge of using this “Chef Magic” appear in my mind, as if it’s something I’ve practiced for years. When I begin to think of how to use this newfound power to cook with, the large man in front of me stares at me with an expression of disgust, “Are you fucking retarded mate? Chop-chop, make me some food ya cunt.” he says. Adhering to his wishes and vulgar language, I begin to look for a suitable and quick recipe to make. As I’m scrolling through the Chefspace interface, I come across a recipe for ‘Level 1 Esquites’. I tap on it, wondering what makes it different. As the ingredients scroll by, a name catches my eye. “Mana Soaked Maize” it reads, I tap on it, and a small box with more information on the ingredient pops up,
“Mana Soaked Maize: Corn grown in a mana-rich environment, or mana enriched soil. Can lead to the recovery of mana in the consumer”
After reading this, I decided to make it. I tap on the “purchase” button, and the ingredients appear below the counter, ready for me to get to making the food. I pull out a pot from under the counter, and I put it on top of a heating element to my right, turning it on to start to boil water. I produce water from my hands with this new, “Chef Magic” that I was granted to use in my shops cooking. After dumping in a bunch of salt and stirring it around to mix the salt into the water, I start to wait for it to boil. I can make water boil much quicker if I use my magic, but I’d rather the mean cunts waiting for food, wait for just that much longer. Once the water starts to boil, I produce four ears of the “Mana Soaked Maize” and drop them in the pot. When the leader of the group of people accosting me notices this, he starts to berate me while I cook. Saying things like, “Dude, how the fuck can corn be used to make good food? Corn is poor people’s food mate, sorry to say. You will not be able to sate me with just this corn, and whatever other shit you’ve prepared. But, I’ll give ya the chance to try. I just want to see your face when we destroy your fucking stall!” I ignore him and continue on cooking. A few minutes go by, and I grab a pair of tongs to pull the corn out of the pot, a sweet scent wafts from the pot, invigorating me slightly. I place the ears of corn onto a platter, and produce a cold breeze from the palm of my hands, to cool down the corn quick enough to make it workable.

After cooling it down, I produce a serrated knife from under counter and begin to remove the kernels from the corn. While my knife is sliding down the side of the corn, I hear a small gasp from behind, one of the people who walked in with the seeming leader of the group exclaims, “That’s Mana Soaked Maize! That ingredient is famously hard to work with because when it’s improperly cooked, the corn loses all of the mana contained within it. When the mana is gone, the corn starts to shrivel up, and turn black!”. I disregard his comment and finish removing the kernels from the corn. I produce four cups, and put the corn into each, relatively equally. Once that is finished, I start to top each of them, with equal combinations of about a tablespoon each of mayonnaise and butter. Then I sprinkle them with chili powder, about a tablespoon of crumbled queso fresco, and salt. A combination of smoky, sweet, spicy, and tangy is within the cup, and the smell drifting out of it advertises the dish very well.
“Food’s done mate, it’s a little something called, ‘Esquites’ that I made. I hope you enjoy your meal.” I tell the large man in front of me, whilst handing him the cup filled with corn and toppings.
“Fine, I’ll eat your, ‘Esquites’ as you say. Can’t wait for them to be shi… Oh shit, what’s this smell coming from this cup?” The man exclaims, changing him trying to berate me, to noticing the smell from the cup. The man goes to eat, grabbing a spoon, and digging into the corn, getting a little bit of everything as the spoon goes down. He lifts it to his mouth, and then he eats the food. The man’s eyes start to water, and as he is done swallowing, he exclaims, “HOLY FUCKING SHIT MAN, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY WONDROUS!”. After his shout, he quickly calms down, and asks in a light voice, “Why is this so damn good? I thought corn was just food that was cheap and didn’t taste too good?”

“Well, it’s mostly because of the combination of smoky, sweet, spicy, and tangy spices that are used as a topping for the corn. Also, the kind of corn matters here too, this ‘Mana Soaked Maize’ which I’ve used, really pairs well with the toppings, and the mana inside invigorates and tastes really good too, my dear customer.” I say this with a hint of sarcasm at the end of the sentence, as I don’t really like the man in front of me.
“Well, this is honestly, amazing. I didn’t really expect much from you at the start, and it is honestly my fucking fault. I shouldn’t have berated you before mate. I’m gonna take my leave, feel free to set up your stall wherever, but here especially!”. The man says as he starts to walk away, taking the rest of his group along with him. After this, I begin to get ready to leave, taking my stall into the alley nearby, I unsummon it, and walk towards the inn.
Sometime later, in the inn.
I sit down on my bed, it sounds out with a loud creak. As I begin to wind down for the day, having spent most of the day cooking, a loud ring resounds in my head, as a set of text appears in front of me.
Congratulations, Rordon, for completing the quest, “Show these fat cunts how good your cooking is!”.
Rewards Granted: Blessing of the God of Chefs XP, Access to use of Chef Magic to use in cooking!
Congratulations, you’re well on your way to becoming the next God of Chefs!
The text slowly fades away from my vision, as I lay down in my bed, and head to the realm of sleep.

A King in the Clouds
Tanlar. A cruel, repulsive, and foul word. It meant untitled, officially, but it also meant ungifted, unable, unworthy, unnecessary, unhuman. It was more a curse than a term, a badge only the damned and condemned wore. To be a tanlar was to know your life, your entire being, was insignificant. Once Kaizer had resigned himself to such a fate, but those times had passed. He may have been untitled, but he was anything but untalented. He refused to scrape by at the bottom of society. Those who stood above him could sneer all they liked, but he wouldn’t suffer being stepped on for long. He’d be better, much better. But of course he would be. ‘Fate’ demanded it so. [Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] What To Expect: The story of a boy becoming a man becoming a king + everything that entails. Largely gamelit, but later arcs could be called litrpg. Also schemes. A lot of schemes. I do love some good ol' fantasy politics and intrigue. Minimum Word Count a Week: TBA after Writathon Release Time(s): Daily for as long as I can/until the end of the Writathon. I also write The Deathseeker [Returning Dec 5th]
