《The Reborn: Book One》Chapter Twelve: We have to stick Together

As the fire consumed Fate's shield, she slid back a little. Fate knew the water would either save them or be the death of them. It all depended on if this creature could swim or not; she didn't want to take any chances in the water. Her mind was racing, and when the fire stopped, she knew they had to strike.
"Follow my lead!" Fate shouted as she charged forward. Ideally, Chance wouldn't have to follow her. But this was the best option they had.
Chance mustered up some courage and ran forward with Fate: This wasn't like fighting the goblins. This creature was giant and out for blood. Chance watched as Fate's shield began to glow. When her shield hit the creature's face, Chance stepped to the side and slashed at it with the spear. The slashing didn't appear to do much, so Chance rose the spear and went to stab its leg.
Fate's eyes widened as the creature flailed his head. It caught her off guard and sent Fate flying to the left. Her body hit the ground with a thud, and she slid closer to the edge of the land.
"Fate!" Chance called. He let himself get distracted. The creature took the opportunity and opened its mouth; it went in to bite Chance, but he moved back just in time. His legs felt like they would give in at any moment. I can't do this. Not without Sage, not a creature this big. Chance was having major doubts.

Fate slowly lifted her head from the stone. She watched as Chance bobbed and weaved the attacks of the lizard. He looked nervous and was doing his best to get a few attacks in when he saw an opening.
There is no way we are going to make it through this fight like this. Fate scanned the room again. There was nothing they could use to give themselves an advantage. As Fate rose from the ground, her mind raced with ideas, and finally, she settled on one. Since the creature's skin was hard, and their weapons were barely doing any damage, she would have to kill it from the inside.

"Chance! I need you to have healing ready for me!" Fate screamed as she charged forward.
"What are you doing!?" Chance called back as the creature turned its body and let out a loud hiss before charging at Fate. "I'm going to let it eat me!" Fate called back as the creature opened its mouth.
Chance thought the idea was completely insane, but they were never going to get through the skin at the rate they were going. He watched as the lizard swallowed Fate. Chance could feel his heart racing. He watched as the lizard slowly moved towards him. Although the creature was slow, Chance made sure to have his weapon ready, just in case.
Eventually, the creature's throat bulged, and he watched as a blade slid through the creature's throat, cutting it down the middle. Once the neck of the beast was cut open, Faith slid out and gagged loudly. Chance ran over right away to heal her, and once again, he watched as his blue bar went down.
-
"That was amazing!" Chance yelled at Faith. She was still catching her breath. "We need to teach you how to fight. I will not do that a second time." She snickered as she removed the creature's spit from her mouth. "I am more than willing to learn whatever you can teach me." Chance said seriously as he watched Fate clean her armor.
"We have to keep moving." Chance said. Fate shook her head, "I am going to try and get back up or wait here for my partner. I want answers." She said honestly. "We have a better chance if we stick together, Fate." Chance said as he motioned to the door. "I think we should continue traveling together." Chance spoke with more conviction this time.

Fate looked back at the water and passed the door. "We can get answers together." Chance said as he watched the creature's body slowly fade away. It did not disappear completely. Fate had to sit on the idea for a moment. "Okay. We can do this together. Just try not to die, please." She said to Chance as she began moving towards the door. "You're the one who dove into a lizard!" Chance said as he followed her. The two laughed and ventured deeper into the dungeon together.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

# The Gemstone of Ominium 2 - Pain
Her unfazed expression didn’t even waver when the blade of her thin sword pierced one of the men all the way through armor, flesh and bone, a gurgling sound bubbling from his throat. With a kick she mercilessly pushed him back, freeing her blade, and glanced down at his dead body sprawled at her feet, confirming that death had indeed taken him. Stepping over the dead man’s body as if it were a mere pebble on her path, she raised her head just in time to see her second attacker lunge at her and, nimbly turning on her heels, she slit his throat. A spray of hot, sticky blood hit her left cheek and slid down her neck, but she didn’t even blink. The scent of the fresh blood filled her nostrils and her brain like an inebriating drug and she stepped forward once again, lightly turning to one side to avoid being decapitated and quickly returning the favor. One by one the men kept falling as she advanced, victims of her lethal, almost mechanical movements, as if she’d been born with a sword in hand and ready to kill …* This is a direct continuation of Book 1 - Denial. You CANNOT start reading Book 2 without reading Book 1, since the story won't make any sense! Enjoy ^_^*
