《King: The Silver King's Echo》Chapter 8 - Silver (Part 2) + Apology

'So this is... The Silver King' The monster thought as he took multiple blows repeatedly by Kuro's onslaught of attacks.
Even with a broken blade, Kuro swung it as if it wasn't. As he swung it with one hand, he even used his other hand to cast simple magic. But even that simple magic created explosions fitting for a higher tier magic.
'This fucker... What kind of mana is this?!' The monster's footing was slowly collapsing on itself due to its fatigue, Kuro had overpowered him.
'More... MORE... MORE!' Everything was going well, until a message popped up.

Warning! Due to overuse of 'Ancestral Transformation',
You only have 2 minutes left!

Kuro staggered, giving the monster a chance to counterattack. Immediately, Kuro's stomach was kicked hard, cracking his silver scales even more.
"Gah!"
As the pain kicked in to his mind, another warning came up.

Kuro swiped away all the notifications he has been getting. Lying on the ground, his dragon head slowly dissipates back into a child's face, his size shrinking back to his childish form, and his torso had also dissipated back into his original form. As he was catching his breath, the monster stood on top of his body, with Kuro's broken blade in its hands, enchanted with mana.
"Kid, I don't know how you gained the ability to fight like that, but this just gave me proof that you really must die now."
"... Go ahead you monster. If word gets out that a Dragonkin destroyed the last of us Guardians, the world will be in chaos." Kuro pants as he finished his last words. The only parts that were still maintaining its transformation were his limbs and wings. Kuro looked to his opponent's body. Its scales were heavily cracked, yet its humanly skin didn't show. The broken hilt that the monster held formed its blade using mana. Its size was the same as a standard sword, this meant that the monster still had plenty of mana.
"You truly are a 'Monster' huh?" Kuro mockingly said at its face, which remained unfazed. Yet, even with blade in hand, it didn't stab him. It just stood still, looking at his eyes.

As time looked as if it stood still, Kuro suddenly sensed mana being formed. A huge ball of mana crashed onto the monster's face, due to its fatigue and surprise, it cause it to collapse along with the blade in hand.
"Kuro! Quick!" Kenny tried to take Kuro, but he immediately dashed onto them.
"Mina, can you take the others?" Kuro spoke to the mother that attacked the monster on the head.
"What?! No, we can't separate!" Mina outbursts in concern and panic, not knowing whether the monster will wake up sooner or later.
"Mina, I've traversed through this forest for a long time. I'll take the other 4 kids, that's the amount I could only carry."
"But-"
"MINA! The monster's gonna wake up soon, if we don't split up, it'll kill all of us. I can't fight it anymore, the only thing I can do is run at this point."
At that moment, Mina had to think. It's true that she can watch over them a lot better when they're all together, but the monster can detect them from a very far distance as experienced when the monster crashed down from a mountain whose distance was more than 8 km away from the village. If they were to separate and the monster came for Mina instead, then she'd be able to distract the monster enough for the others to get out of its range. However, if it came for Kuro instead...
"Mina!" Kuro flinches Mina, prompting her to pick the latter.
"Alright, we'll separate."
"Mina, we'd like to go with Kuro." The others had nodded to Levy's decision of joining with Kuro.
"Alright, please take care of yourselves. Kuro, when you see a black flare in the sky, we'll meet here again, okay?" Mina asked as she grabs onto Kuro's shoulders.
"Don't worry Mina, as you saw, even if I'm tired, I won't go down without a fight." Kuro smirks.
"Really... You're just like your parents." She smiles as she pats Kuro's head.
As Mina and all the other kids as well as the other remaining adult ran off for the south, Kuro and his friends ran for the north... Where the monster had first jumped off from.
"Kuro, you sure this is a good idea?" Gran worriedly asked Kuro as they were heading to potentially, the monster's den.
"I'll explain, everyone should grab onto me first." Kuro then proceeded to carry the 2 girls on his arms while the 2 boys were carried by his legs and flew up. It made it seem like he was a flying frog.

"The forest in the north is thicker than any other, same with its vegetation. Not only that, but magic is also disrupted here. If it detected us about more than 8 kilometers away from us, then it means its using magic. Not just that, but there are many predatory monsters here. They might attack us, but the same goes for it. If it were to fight the monsters here, then we'd hear it and we'd have enough time to escape."
As Kuro flew away with his friends, he looked at his burning village. The heavy rain dripped down to Kuro's eyes, but he still looked at his proud village which was now in pitiful shambles. As he watched the flames slowly die out, lightning crackled once more.
*BANG* *CRACKLE*
"SHIT! Hold on to me tightly guys, we're going to dive!" Immediately, Kuro dived down in the heart of the forest, using his wings as cover for the girls on his arms. As he dived down, a green portal suddenly illuminated in front of them. Without anytime to react, they fell down in it.
"Gah!"
Kuro crashed down to the ground, though his friends were safe from the majority of the impact, Kuro wasn't.
"Kuro! Are you okay?!" Bea was the first to stand up. As she was moving him while the others slowly regained their consciousness, Kuro's wings dissipated and his arms and legs slowly came back to normal.
"Hey, Kuro wake up!"
"Come on Kuro, it might chase us again!"
They kept moving Kuro, unbeknownst to them, he had actually lost consciousness.
'I... Want to rest...'
"Kuro!"
"Kuro"
"Come oooooonnn Kuro!"
"Kuro, stop!"
"Kurooooo~"
"I love you... Kuro"
"We'll meet again... I'll wait for you, no matter how long..."
"GAH!"
Kuro wakes up after hearing the girl's voice in his dreams, however, his wake wasn't so pleasant as well. He winces in the pain that comes from his ribs. As he tries to check his condition with his mana, he sensed his 6 broken ribs, his spine in immense pain, his skull slightly cracked, and his 3 main arm bones on both arms, his Humerus, Ulna and Radius are also cracked. Same goes to his legs.

'I see...' Kuro was slightly satisfied with his stat increase. Though it was small, an increase is still an increase. As he sat straight and used mana to support his broken bones, he heard a knock on the door.
"So, you're finally awake."
It was an adult who wore a professor's attire. With a small lab coat and baggy shorts filled with who-knows-what, he crosses his arms in front of Kuro.
"I assume, you're the one who took care of me and my friends?"
"Hah... Yes, yes I did. You kids washed ashore near the river due to that heavy rain. It was tiring to carry you kids."

'What?'
"Cheeky bastard. You tried to pry into me?" The man was now next to him immediately within arms reach.
"Shouldn't I be suspicious of someone who saved me out of "goodwill"?"
"Hmm... *mumble* maybe I SHOULD have left you down there *mumble*"
"Haa... Regardless, thank you for saving us. I apologize that we'll have to stay until my friends could recover. Though I'm the most injured, it's okay if I could at least heal the majority of my injuries." Kuro went back into meditating as the man was next to him.
'Is this brat arrogant or confident?'
"Kid, name?"
"... Kuro. Kuro Sy-... Kuro Aagney."
"Hmm... Since it looks like you won't say your real name, I won't pry any further. Although, you should dye your hair black. If any other country sees your hair, you'd be branded as a threat to the world and kill you in the most unimaginable way possible."
Kuro tugs his hair and looks at it, "Yeah, I guess so... How about yours? What's your name?" Kuro looks at the man's white-colored hair.
"Rai. The name's Rai, an Elemental Dragonkin."

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
