《Zarath: Age of Growth》Chapter 5: The Grand Plan

As Venessa began to float off, Hon gently probed her to get her attention. "It's this way," he pointed slightly to the right of her. "Ahh.. well, I wanted to take the scenic route, but I guess time is important. Lead the way, my small, winged companion!" She quickly corrected her flustered posture and added some extra regalness to her voice to compensate for the mistake.
As they made their way through the forest, Vanessa touched every plant she came by. With each one giving her information and properties, in general, she was having a lot of fun. If she weren't restraining herself, her ghostly body would be zooming around, but she had an appearance to keep up. She noticed again that there were no large creatures. "Hon, why are there no large animals about?" Hon, who busy scouting with his clones, answered her, "Animals are created when ambient energy from the unstable zones drift into the stable area. Which then manifest into animals, creatures, or monster through the dungeons help." Continuing, "So right now, the best we get are smaller critters. Until you establish an entrance that is."
She was curious about the labels he used for the animals, "What's the difference between animals, creatures, and monster" Hon was a bit confused about such a fundamental question but answered anyway, "It an arbitrary naming sense used by most sentient species. Animals are non-threatening to everyone, but maybe children, creatures are animals that are dangerous to an untrained person but still weak. Creatures are often mistaken for monsters, which are animals that have a large amount of Mana and can often use spells, making them much more dangerous. They can be born monsters or become monsters by absorbing the ambient Mana." This got her thinking if currently only small animals and creatures can exist, wouldn't they become massive if they absorb enough Mana right now. "Hey, Hon wouldn't that mean a giant beetle can be created right now" He gave it some thought and agreed, "Yes, they could be, but they wouldn't get truly massive until you anchor down your core." At this point, Vanessa was imagining having a city on top of a massive golden beetle. *That would be so sweet, screw a turtle or an elephant, a beetle would be so much cooler.*
She decided to explore more as they were traveling and try to spot any big boys. After looking on the ground for a while and not finding anything, she flew into the tree canopy. As she was looking around, she heard what sounded like someone punching bark, so she flew towards it with Hon right behind her. What she saw was two giant stick bugs duking it out. They were very similar to the ones on Earth, with four legs and two arms, except they were four feet long with arms almost as long. These giant bugs were just swinging at each other, and the sound she heard was their fist hitting each other exoskeleton.
Vanessa had always liked to cheer for the underdog, in this case, it was the slightly smaller one. She was shadowing the fight while back-seating, "Go for the face! Give it the quick punch the…. Uh… JAB!" She said while mimicking an uppercut. The two stick bugs continued fighting until the larger one, who pushed too far forward and onto the smaller one's branch, lost its balance. The little one then landed a hit the more massive one's front, causing it to teeter; with another blow, it fell. The back leg was able to grab on to its own branch. Still, though, the momentum of the fall was too much, causing it to fall down canopy in a spin. Cheering for the win, Vanessa went up to the stick-bug and gave it a pat. "I always believed in you, you… um... Sticky. Now go on and do your stick business or whatever you do."

Sarah frowned at the amount of information that popped up about the creature when she touched. So she decided to see if she could make her own note, that was a lot less heavy.
Stick-Bug Boxer
*Can punch very hard*
*Tough skin Exoskeleton*
*Big*
Satisfied she turns to Hon, "Was that a monster or creature?" Hon gave the bug a look as it was exploring its new territory. "It's a creature, it can use an innate ability, but it isn't powerful. It was able to make it's skin harder like wood for a while. Would you like me to save its bio, so you can use it for the dungeon?"
"Yes, that would be very appreciated." * Alright cool, I got one awesome bug, now time to find more.*
Vanessa and Hon continued on their journey, they spotted a couple more creature; a rather fast bird, a large butterfly that was able to camouflage like a chameleon, a walking potato, a massive spider that she gracefully nope the fuck out from.
She made notes for most of them but didn't really find anything she liked until they came across two massive beetles, they were the size of a small car. Their shells looked like a standard beetle, but at the edges where the top would connect to the bottom, there was a vertical wall two feet tall that looked like it was made of a hardened exoskeleton. Where a regular beetle would joust with its horn, these two were jousting by slamming each other with their bodies. Even though it wasn't a particularly exciting creature but it was the closest to the golden beetle she wanted, they had a yellow-orange shell and were huge. "Hon, mark this one down as Future Golden Beetle" She floated herself over the beetle closest to her and sat on it after their joust concluded. "You know Goldy even though your more of an orange right now, I have faith in myself to make you want I want you to be" She patted the beetle on its back, all the while the beetle paid her no attention and just ate some large bushes by it. She decided to ignore it as it was doing to her and lay on its back, enjoying the ride.
During her midday nap, she noticed that even after all this time, that it was still daytime, "Hey Hon, Why hasn't the sun moved at all?" Hon, who was examining the giant beetle, turned to her and said, "Time won't change until you make the entrance. In fact, the plane wouldn't be considered complete until you do." They have been traveling for some time now, "How many days has it been then?"
"Something like two days, your plane was rather big, and at our pace, we would take 13 days to reach the edge from the center."
"TWO DAYS?!!" Vanessa was rather shocked about the amount of time passed, even though she has been enjoying the walk through the forest she couldn't help but think she was wasting too much time. Maybe all those detours she took when she was bored was adding up, she could always ask Hon for some help. Also, it's been a while since the last interesting creature besides the big beetle. "Hon, is there a way to move to the edge of the hilly area." "Of course, one second." A small water bubble formed in his hand, it expanded to encompass both him and Vanessa. The bubble was transparent and was large enough to give Vanessa ample room to move around.

Vanessa gently poked the bubble from the inside, causing it to ripple "Neat." Hon slowed raised the bubble, as the bubble reached the tree canopy, the branches curved out of the bubble ways. Vanessa was like a country girl, entering the city for the first time. She stared in wonder and continued to do so as they sped through the air over the treetops. From her vantage point, the river, the sea of trees, the towering mountains in the distance were more visually beautiful than what she saw from the small map Hon made. Although her vision couldn't see the rainforest, she believed Hon about it. As they grew closer to the edge of the domain, the inky shadowland that once composed her plane came into view, it was just like when she first got here. Although now she can see that, even though it was ever-shifting, there was some kind of constant. The river and mountains in the north led to more mountains with valleys, but their height and length varied as far as she could see.
After flying for about an hour, their ride started to slow down. The bubble landed on the right side of the raging river and near the marked area. Vanessa, this time, decided to wait for Hon to move before following him. Instead of a forest terrain that she was familiar with, there were boulders, grass, and shrubbery as tall as her waist. There were a lot of hills, and they weren't the smooth kind. They had jagged outcrops of rocks, and small cliffs of ten or so feet spread throughout. As they were zig-zagging pass the outcrops and cliffs of brownish rocks, Vanessa noticed a brightly colored rock moving. So she floated over to get a closer look, "Aww, they look like little M&N's if M&N's were beetles and the size of a tennis ball." Hon, who was giving them a thorough examination, looked back at her. "What's an M&N?" "Oh, they are candies filled with chocolate."
As the seven colorful bugs were crossing a patch of grass in a line, a large shadow appeared over them. Vanessa looked up a saw a huge bird circling above before it dove at their location. She got scared and started to run before remembering she invisible to it. She turned back and looked at the large pieces of candies that were about to be eaten, they were huddled up tightly together. "Quick skedaddle, run, move!. Why aren't you guy running!" Before she could say any more, the bird was right over them. The beetle huddled more tightly before a pulse of air come out of them, causing dust to be kicked up. The giant bird that was about to grab one was distorted and tried to break off its dive but couldn't, causing it to slam into the ground three feet from the beetles. The beetles ran over to the mangled corpse of the bird and started to devour it. Vanessa was dumfounded to just happened, so she asked Hon. "What just happened to the bird?" Hon smiled and explained, "That there is our first monster we have seen. It used a sound base magic to disorient the bird causing it to basically kill itself before eating it." As Vanessa watched the beetle strip the meat from the bird, before also eating the bone, she was conflicted. Whether the beetle was cool because it used sound magic or a complete savage since it ate an entire bird in a few minutes. So she picked both, "Hon write this one down too as….. M&N the Savage." It wasn't the most creative name, but it will do. She gently poked one of the beetles causing it to stop moving before hunkering down all the other beetle followed suit and started to cuddle together. Seeing where this was leading to, she decided to not bother them and moved on.
They continued on, this time with fewer detours, they made great time. Vanessa spotted the hill and made her way to it, or at least she did until Hon corrected her. So she made it a second detour. Her hill was very steep, which didn't matter too much since they both could fly, but it did create a massive cliff on the other side. Were she saw pill bugs, they were the size of a soccer ball if rolled up. But when she was heading to play with them, she witness saw something tragic, it was a mass suicide as all twelve of the pill bugs were walking off the cliff edge. "Nooooo, you all so much to live for… I think I mean there grass and rock, but what more do you need!" She said as she quickly floated towards them, but was too late as she witnesses in slow motion the last pill bug fall. "Nooooooo….. Oh, they bounce! That so cool." Instead of seeing mangled corpses of bug at the bottom of the cliff, she saw the pill bugs roll up and bounce as they hit rocks. And when they reached the bottom, they would unroll, reform their group, and march on.
Shocked and awed by their feat, her eyes sparkled, and she quickly told Hon to get their bio since she can't fly back up the cliff. "Hon! We need that one, it's essential for my grand plan!" Hon flew straight down, got its bio, and came back. "Grand plan? It's good that your thinking ahead, mind telling me your plan?" Vanessa, who was busy watching the pill bug walk-off, turned around. "Huh o yes. Hon, I'm not as simple as I seem to be, so of course, I have a Grand plan. But a lady must have her secrets but worry not, I will tell you my plan all in due time." Smiling in gratification she thought things were going pretty well for her, *Now to place my entrance….. and make up a Grand plan.*
